VIDEO EDITING SOFTWAREo Captures video from the camera media and
imports into the editing software. o Manipulates video footage and adds the
desired effects to convey the intended message. (Example: Adobe Premiere, Final Cut Pro, MovieMaker).
3
![Page 4: Objective 105.03 Describe software and hardware …wpetty.weebly.com › uploads › 1 › 1 › 3 › 2 › 11327658 › dm10503sm1…Camera Shots o Lights (if necessary) 2 VIDEO](https://reader034.vdocuments.mx/reader034/viewer/2022042315/5f03a7027e708231d40a1b4f/html5/thumbnails/4.jpg)
FRAME COMPOSITION TERMSo Composition is the art of arranging objects in
a frame. o Terms include: • Rule of Thirds • Wide Shot • Medium Shot • Close-up • High Angle Shot • Low Angle Shot
4
![Page 5: Objective 105.03 Describe software and hardware …wpetty.weebly.com › uploads › 1 › 1 › 3 › 2 › 11327658 › dm10503sm1…Camera Shots o Lights (if necessary) 2 VIDEO](https://reader034.vdocuments.mx/reader034/viewer/2022042315/5f03a7027e708231d40a1b4f/html5/thumbnails/5.jpg)
RULE OF THIRDSo Mentally dividing
the frame into thirds, both horizontally and vertically (similar to a tic-tac-toe board).

5
![Page 6: Objective 105.03 Describe software and hardware …wpetty.weebly.com › uploads › 1 › 1 › 3 › 2 › 11327658 › dm10503sm1…Camera Shots o Lights (if necessary) 2 VIDEO](https://reader034.vdocuments.mx/reader034/viewer/2022042315/5f03a7027e708231d40a1b4f/html5/thumbnails/6.jpg)
RULE OF THIRDSo The points of interest happen where the 1/3
lines intersect. So there are 4 places where your subject should be placed. Sometimes that means that the subject occupies 2/3 of the image, but often not.
o Horizon lines should follow either the lower 1/3 line or the upper 1/3 line, and eyes should always be on (or near) the upper 1/3 line.
6
![Page 7: Objective 105.03 Describe software and hardware …wpetty.weebly.com › uploads › 1 › 1 › 3 › 2 › 11327658 › dm10503sm1…Camera Shots o Lights (if necessary) 2 VIDEO](https://reader034.vdocuments.mx/reader034/viewer/2022042315/5f03a7027e708231d40a1b4f/html5/thumbnails/7.jpg)
QUESTIONS TO CONSIDERo Why do you think the rule of thirds works? o How do directors use the rule of thirds to tell
the audience where to look? o Can you think of examples where the rule of
thirds isn’t used or wouldn’t need to be utilized?
7
![Page 8: Objective 105.03 Describe software and hardware …wpetty.weebly.com › uploads › 1 › 1 › 3 › 2 › 11327658 › dm10503sm1…Camera Shots o Lights (if necessary) 2 VIDEO](https://reader034.vdocuments.mx/reader034/viewer/2022042315/5f03a7027e708231d40a1b4f/html5/thumbnails/8.jpg)
ESTABLISHING SHOTo Sets up a context for
the scene by showing the relationship between the subject(s) and their environment.
8
![Page 9: Objective 105.03 Describe software and hardware …wpetty.weebly.com › uploads › 1 › 1 › 3 › 2 › 11327658 › dm10503sm1…Camera Shots o Lights (if necessary) 2 VIDEO](https://reader034.vdocuments.mx/reader034/viewer/2022042315/5f03a7027e708231d40a1b4f/html5/thumbnails/9.jpg)
QUESTIONS TO CONSIDERo Why is it important to have an establishing
shot? o Can you think of examples in movies of
establishing shots, with or without characters in them?
9
![Page 10: Objective 105.03 Describe software and hardware …wpetty.weebly.com › uploads › 1 › 1 › 3 › 2 › 11327658 › dm10503sm1…Camera Shots o Lights (if necessary) 2 VIDEO](https://reader034.vdocuments.mx/reader034/viewer/2022042315/5f03a7027e708231d40a1b4f/html5/thumbnails/10.jpg)
WIDE SHOTo Shows subject and
location or environment in its entirety.
o Example: showing the entire building.
10
![Page 11: Objective 105.03 Describe software and hardware …wpetty.weebly.com › uploads › 1 › 1 › 3 › 2 › 11327658 › dm10503sm1…Camera Shots o Lights (if necessary) 2 VIDEO](https://reader034.vdocuments.mx/reader034/viewer/2022042315/5f03a7027e708231d40a1b4f/html5/thumbnails/11.jpg)
EXTREME WIDE SHOTo Used to show the
subject and its environment from further back than a typical wide shot.
11

QUESTIONS TO CONSIDERo Think about shot types. Can you see a
pattern or order that you might use shots when setting up an entire scene?
o Why do you think we use shots in a specific order?
o How could we use shots “out of order” to create a specific emotion?
15
![Page 16: Objective 105.03 Describe software and hardware …wpetty.weebly.com › uploads › 1 › 1 › 3 › 2 › 11327658 › dm10503sm1…Camera Shots o Lights (if necessary) 2 VIDEO](https://reader034.vdocuments.mx/reader034/viewer/2022042315/5f03a7027e708231d40a1b4f/html5/thumbnails/16.jpg)
HIGH ANGLE SHOTo When camera
location is above normal eye-level compared to the subject.
o Makes the subject appear small, weak, inferior, or scared.
16
![Page 17: Objective 105.03 Describe software and hardware …wpetty.weebly.com › uploads › 1 › 1 › 3 › 2 › 11327658 › dm10503sm1…Camera Shots o Lights (if necessary) 2 VIDEO](https://reader034.vdocuments.mx/reader034/viewer/2022042315/5f03a7027e708231d40a1b4f/html5/thumbnails/17.jpg)
