LEARNING
Øis something that students DO and it is the RESULT of that they do …
Øresults in CHANGES in UNDERSTANDING, these changes in understanding enable learners to change their BEHAVIOUR …
Øcan be considered as largely a COGNITIVE process (something that involves THINKING) but one that may be linked to the development of SKILLS and which can be influenced by AFFECTIVE (emotional) and contextual factors…
Øis a PROCESS and an OUTCOME …

• It promises high level of learning for all students based on the achievement of clearly unambiguous outcomes with consideration to the appropriateness of each learner’sdevelopment level and assuring active and experienced-based learning.
• It provides the learner with the destination of the educational journey before voyaging.

Outcomes-based vs. Traditional Education
Outcome-based Education
¡ Focus on “LEARNING”
¡ Begin with “learning outcomes – LO”
¡ Individual teaching and learning
¡ Assessment is a key
¡ Learning outcome is f ixed, t ime variable
¡ Teacher as faci l i tator and guide
Traditional Education
¡ Focus on “TEACHING”
¡ Begin with “teaching object ives”
¡ “one-size f it al l” teaching and learning
¡ Assessment is a secondary
¡ Time is f ixed, learning outcomes variable
¡ Teacher as guardian of curriculum
