St. Augustine Catholic Church Twenty-second Sunday in Ordinary Time September 3rd, 2017
It was family time. The celebration of the feast
of Saint Augustine was all a family time. People came together in prayer, fellowship and sharing. The church family came together as the Scriptures say, “How good and pleasant it is when God’s peo-ple live together in unity!” Psalm 133:1.
Holy Mass was beautiful, with melodious singing
and active participation by all. Church environment was lovely and crisp. In our search for meaning, Saint Augustine is definitely a great exemplar. I believe that looking at the life and times of Saint Augustine everyone can find inspiration that chal-lenge us to be better people.
Our gathering after the Holy Mass was wonder-
ful. There was so much food, with great variety, tastes and allurements. It was just impossible not to try the gourmet dishes. Even some of the passersby could not help but step in and taste some of the delicacies. Popsicles were a great hit with the children, not to mention the adults, given the heat of the day. “Little Francis” enjoyed a few of them!
Games were as much fun for children as well as
adults. I could see the fathers showing off their basketball skills while the children enjoying the wa-ter balloons. I, too, had a try at the ‘cake walk’ with no luck accompanying me. One of the children told me, ‘If you do like this on Sundays, we all would like to come to Church!’
I thank all the members of our Church who
made such a fun day possible. Thanks to those who set up and cleaned those who brought the food, those who organized the games and signed up to help with it all. I want thank our parish staff, especially Karen Glen and Doug Castro, who coor-dinated the celebration and saw to the food ar-rangements. Special thanks to Mike Marino, presi-dent of the Parish Council. April McNeely and the choir for their beautiful singing. Linda captured parts of the event on camera.
There was a smile on faces, joy in hearts,
warmth in the air and Jesus amidst us. ‘Christ is the center of our celebration; the Unseen Guest at every meal; the Silent Listener to every conversa-tion.’

Joy of the Gospel (Our Social Justice corner)
Look here for exciting opportunities to get involved in serving oth-
ers in our community. “I Prefer a Church which is bruised, hurting and dirty
because it has been out on the streets, rather than a Church which is un-
healthy from being confined and from clinging to its own security.” Joy of
the Gospel, Pope Francis #49.
As a Parish community we are now serving “Fellowship” coffee.
This coffee is a Free Trade, Organic blend coffee that is made available to
us through a partnership of Catholic Relief Services Ethical Trade ministry.
We hope you will take the time to appreciate the coffee and know that the
purchase of the coffee helps insure fair and safe conditions for those who
grow, harvest and roast it. If you would like more information about this
change, please ask @ the Hospitality table.

FAMILY FAITH FORMATION
Registration forms are now available for Family Faith Formation. Classes will
begin on Sunday, September 17th @ 9:10 am. All children Kinder – 6th grade are
encouraged to register in our program. This year we will have three separate classes,
with new teachers, in Family Faith Formation. Kindergarden/1st Grade, Marie Tre-
skunov. 2nd & 3rd Grade, Karen Glen. 4th -6th Grade, Natasha Mendez. Alyi Bar-
tolomeo will be joining us as a FFF aide, helping with the different age groups as
needed. As a team we have been preparing for the program over the summer and are
excited to announce some of the changes that will take place. The Catholic Church
and St. Augustine Parish acknowledge that the family, primarily the parents, are the
first teachers of the faith to their children. To grow together as a Parish community
one of the NEW additions to our program will be the Whole Family Faith Sunday.
Once a month, the Family Faith community will meet as one large group, instead of
the individual classes. The purpose of this Sunday will be to engage the Parents and
Children in faith together, that they can continue in their homes. This unique program
will take place at the same time and in the same setting as the Faith Formation
classes. We are excited about the opportunity to grow in our faith together. The Faith
Formation registration forms are available in the vestibule of the church. The calen-
dar for the year is also available on this form, as well as the Parish website. If you
have any questions about the program, please give me a call. Karen Glen/Ministry
