Directory

Of Infant and Child

Development Services in the

Province of Ontario

10th

Edition, 2015

This Directory is a revision of the 2008 edition. The Directory is published by the Ontario Association for Infant and Child Development to assist professionals in making referrals to appropriate programs. The Mission Statement, Purpose and Objectives provide an overview of Infant and Child Development Services.

The Infant and Child Development Programs across the province are funded primarily by The Ministry of Child and Youth Services. The directory appendix lists additional programs that provide service to special infant populations.

Additional services for families and children birth to six years may be available in your area. The Infant and Child Development Services will be able to assist in making connections and coordinating services.

An electronic version of the most current directory can be found on the OAICD website at www.oaicd.ca and will be updated as changes are sent to OAICD at [email protected]

Infant and Child Development Services Kingston – page 14 ou

4

How to use this Directory

Programs and their descriptions are arranged alphabetically according to the locations of their main offices. Using the INDEX starting on Page 34: 1. you can locate the program by its title (if the program has a

specific name) e.g. Infant and Child Development Services Kingston by looking for Kingston - page 14 or

2. you can locate a program for referral purposes after identifying the town/city nearest the family's home e.g. Napanee Code Q, on Page 14

Note: Many programs serve both rural and urban areas.

The INDEX will give you both a code and a page number, with the exception of those listed in the Appendix, e.g. Napanee - Code Q, Page 14.

Consult the APPENDIX Page 30 for programs providing Specialized Services.

A link for the Children’s Rehabilitation (Treatment) Centres in Ontario is found on Page 30.

A list of Paediatric Hospitals in Ontario is found on Page 31.

Links to infant development (early intervention) programs across Canada that are outside Ontario are found on Pages 32-33.

développer, promouvoir et appuyer des politiques, des services et de la recherche dans le domaine du développement de la petite enfance et du jeune enfant dans la province de l’Ontario;

faire circuler l’information entre les professionnels qui travaillent dans le domaine du développement de la petite enfance et du jeune enfant de 0 à 6 ans;

promouvoir l’éducation continue de ses membres et de la communauté en général;

risque établi (trouble diagnostiqué);

risque biologique (troubles précoces qui peuvent avoir un effet sur le développement de l’enfant);

6

Mission Statement

Recognizing that infancy is a crucial period in the healthy development of an individual, the Ontario Association for Infant and Child Development exists primarily to:

develop, promote and support policies, services and research in the field of infant and child development in the Province of Ontario

share information among professionals working in the field of infant and child development to age 6

promote ongoing education for members and the community at large, and

affiliate with other organizations having the same or similar objectives.

Purposes and objectives of programs for infants and young

children and their families

Services are designed to serve infants and young children who are at risk for developmental delay and their families. The target populations include:

established risk (diagnosed disorder);

biological risk (early events which may affect an infant's development); and

psychosocial risk (vulnerabilities which may be magnified by environmental factors) which accompanies established or biological risk

As there are differences in services based on local differences, contact programs directly regarding their particular mode of service delivery. In 2007, the association (OAICD) recommended a name change to "Infant and Child Development Services (geographical area)" to MCYS. Many programs have changed their names for more consistency across the province.
