From my perspective the show went very well.It started kind of bumpy in that the hotel had not cleared the show field area by Tuesday morning. They did make good and towed 80 plus cars to a different location and we began setting up. Another glitch was the registration room we counted on was being used up until Wednes-day by someone else. The hotel found us another room which was better but all of our pre-made signs were now incorrect as for location. Changes made, we did get the flow we wanted and things began to roll!

The first event was the tour to the Harrah Auto Collection which was followed with the Welcome Social Wednesday where we filled the room with happy Oldsmobile folks. The auto tour ran continuously Wednesday and Thursday and was enjoyed by all.

Thursday many got positioned on the show field that Ken Van Gundy and crew had masterfully set up. The weather was warm but not the blazing heat that could happen in Reno. Thursday afternoon around 275 people boarded busses for the Lake Tahoe Cruise/Dinner. We got nothing but thumbs up on the tour, many happy campers!

Friday was show/judging day which started with a Judges Clinic with Chief Judge Ed Konsmo moderator. A breakfast followed and judging began around 10 AM. Nearly 300 cars, judging lasted into mid afternoon. At the same time we had the swap meet which shared the outer edge of the show field. Set up was Wednesday for the swap and lasted through Saturday. The ladies luncheon/fashion show was also held on this day and another highly praised event went well.

After that warm day of judging there was the Oldsmobile drag race in Fallon, NV at Top Gun Raceway. Unfortunately not many went to this event. Joe Donnelly did what he

could to get out the word but distance away and weather kept the turn out low, less than a dozen cars and only a few dozen specta-tors. But those who went got a spectacular show. Mostly Cutlass cars with Grant Warner running in the11s, Donnelly in the 12s. OCA President Jerry Wilson was there enjoying every moment. The weather was stormy but let up enough to let the cars run.

Back at the hotel that same storm had blown through the swap and show field causing a mini panic with many folks moving their cars to a safer place. Saturday AM, after the blow out, found few cars on the show field but some diehard ‘48-’50 Futuramic fans gathered over 2 dozen of these beauties for a group photo shoot.

Saturday morning was the tour to Virginia City which included lunch and a train ride. When back from that tour folks needed to check their awards and raffle results at regis-tration then get ready for the banquet, High action!

Over 400 attended the banquet which was held in a larger room with a dozen Oldsmobiles from 1903 to 2003 surrounding the edge. The colors were presented by the Reno Chapter of the Boy Scouts of America, Invocation by Daylene DeLong and the festivities began. Dan Haggerty, Chairman of the National Event, opened and introduced everyone con-nected. Between Jerry Wilson, OCA President, Ed Konsmo, OCA Chief Judge and Ken Van-Gundy Event Head Judge we sailed through the awards. Jeanie Marsden and Larry Ewing held the 50/50 raffle toward the end and raffled off 5 event hats and all the professional sinage. Gary Hinman from our club won the 50/50 cash. Mike Griva, also from our club, donated 40 bottles of fine wine which was given away 1 per table. We all should be proud of a suc-cessful show! A good time was had by all.Larry Ewing, photo by Kerry Warrick

The 2011 Nationals Ladies Luncheon was a great success. Audible sighs of pleasure were heard as ladies noticed the elegant Victorian decorations. Soft music serenad-ing lunch, paused for two tales of women who made their fame and fortune during the gold mining days. Music resumed as models circulated among the tables and interacted with the audience. The two raffle winners were delighted with their quilts. Following the luncheon, Casa Di Moda, the store donating the show fashions, was filled with shoppers. It was an event everyone enjoyed.

OCA Nationals Awards BanquetDan Haggerty, President of Nor Cal Club and Chairman of the 2011 OCA National stands before a crowd of over 400 Oldsmobile members fulfilling a wish he had over three years ago. That wish was to hold a Nationals like the one the club put on in 1986. With his determination and guidance it came to a success-ful conclusion on this night in Reno, Nevada at the Grand Sierra Resort and Casino. Great job Dan!!

The Silver State Pavilion Room was elegantly set up with a row of beautiful Oldsmobiles surrounding the outer edge

Hello Jeanie, Super congrats on a wonderful National meet. This is the second national meet I’ve attended but the first in which I entered a car. From my perspective, every aspect of the meet was abso-lutely perfect. I could not have asked for more! Thank you and best regards, Randy CorriganOlympia, WA 1968 4-4-2 convertible

Jeanie,You are listed as the point of contact for the Northern California Olds club in JWO. I would like to pass along to you and your members my thanks for hosting a very enjoyable National meet. It was a long boring drive for me – San Antonio, TX to Reno was 1725 miles of mostly nothing and the same on the way back home – but well worth the trip. The California flare was very evi-dent in the number of late 40’s – early 50’s cars, most of which seemed to have been modified. Now personally I am into restoring 68 – 72 442’s, but I do loving looking at those earlier cars and hot rods. I’d bet there were a lot of these high dollar restorers that came unglued with what was awarded Best of Show but personally I got a real kick out of it. There was another candy apple red 50’ I also just loved as well as a 57’ – both of which had been tricked out in a really cool fashion. Glad to see it wasn’t all about the purists. Again, GREAT JOB and thanks for a wonderful time.Ralph GainesPresident, South Texas Olds Club

Dan and Elaine, I am sure you have got many congatulations and thanks for puttiing on and hosting the Olds Nationals in Reno this year. Mary and I are two more votes you can chalk up to the Haggerty’s as winners and Olds celebrities of the year. And that is the truth. You did a wonderful job and it is a pleasure to have met you guys last year in Sturbridge. We have been going to the Nationals every year in a row since Texas in “06 where we met Kathy and JR Stender from Minnesota and have become close friends with them. Unfortunately, as you know, Kathy broke her upper arm in two places a week before the event and they could not attend. We were also present at the 100 year celebration in Lansing in 1997. Also a pleasure to have had lunch with you in the sandwich shop. Mary is still talking and tell-ing everyone about her modeling job at the ladies luncheon. Without a doubt this was the best Nationals we have been to, one of the reasons being that we got to take our ‘67 Delta 88 that we got two years ago and “Ruby”, as Mary calls her, made the trip without any trouble at all. We also have a 1955 2dr hdtp coupe that we have had since 1994. At our So Cal club meeting, praise went out to the Nor Cal club for all your efforts in putting on this show. Thanks again Dan and Elaine,Sincerely,The Parson’s, Donnie Rocket and Mary

their work and dedication to host a great 2011 National Meet. It was our 1st National Oldsmo-bile car show. We had a wonderful time and had the chance to see a variety of many beautiful Oldsmobiles. The accommodations, events and activities were outstanding. What a great group of people; everyone was so friendly. My wife Linda and I had an opportunity to forge new friendships, reunite with old friends and connect with many Oldsmobile owners and fans. I have always loved Oldsmobiles; owning four 1949-1950’s. My 1st Olds was a 1950 2door sedan (x highway patrol car) that I bought in high school for $100 and turned into a hot rod. I was an OCA member in the early 1990’s when I built a 1950 Olds coupe which I sold in 1995. I didn’t have and Olds on the road for 11 years while I built my current car and have recently rejoined the Club. Both my wife and I are looking forward to future OCA and NorCal events. Thank you again, Terry HenryOCA Member # 023051
