HOLY FATHER’S PRAYER INTENTION FOR OCTOBER A Missionary “Spring” in the Church

That the breath of the Holy Spirit engender a new missionary “spring” in the church.

.

FATHER LEDOUX’S PRAYER INTENTIONS FOR OCTOBER WORSHIP: We pray for renewed devotion to Our Blessed Mother by all in our Parish and Diocese in this month dedicated to the Most Holy Rosary (Feast Day - October 7th).

FAITH FORMATION: May our young parents find support from each other, and each of us, as they form their conscience in keeping with the truths of Sacred Scripture and Christ’s Church and seek to bear witness to their Catholic Faith in the lives of their children.

EVANGELIZATION: As we observe “World Mission Sunday” on October 20th, let us pray to be renewed in our Faith in Christ Jesus who has ‘first loved us’ and Who has called us to “follow Me” so that as a parish we may live every day with love and zeal as members of His Church.

SOCIAL JUSTICE: October is dedicated as “Respect for Life Month” (Respect for Life Sunday is October 6th). Pray for an end to Abortion,

Euthanasia, Capital Punishment, Artificial Birth Control, In vitro Fertilization and all forms of disrespect of life, including the neglect

of the poor, in our nation and world. BUILDINGS AND FACILITIES: Let us pray in thanksgiving to God for our beautiful facilities, generous benefactors and for continued hearts of generosity in prayer and treasure that we may complete our Capital Campaign Goal of 2.5 Million dollars.

HOW TO GAIN PLENARY INDULGENCES FOR THE HOLY SOULS IN PURGATORY!

This is a most important work. In a certain sense, perhaps the most important work, save for praying for our own salvation and that of all we know. The Holy Souls in Purgatory are suffering. They have all the torments of hell; save for the great knowledge that they know they are saved. We must help them! And if we help them, they will help us!

Here is how you can earn plenary indulgences for the Holy Souls: (Taken from the Priestly Fraternity of St. Peter)

Indulgences for the Poor Souls I On All Souls' Day (Nov. 2) a plenary indulgence, applicable only to the Poor Souls, is granted to those who visit any parish church or public oratory and there recite one Our Father and one Credo. II On all the days from November I though November 8 inclusive, a plenary indulgence, applicable only to the Poor Souls, is granted to those who visit a cemetery and pray even if only mentally for the departed.

Conditions for both indulgences: 1. Only one plenary indulgence can be granted per day. 2. It is necessary to be in the state of grace, at least by completion of the work. 3. Freedom from attachment to sin, even venial sin, is necessary; otherwise the indulgence is only partial. (By this is meant attachment to a particular sin, not sin in general.) 4. Holy Communion must be received each time the indulgence is sought. [This is one a lot of people forget. You have to go to Holy Communion to obtain the indulgence for each day.] 5. Prayers must he recited for the intentions of the Holy Father on each day the indulgence is sought. (No particular prayers are prescribed. One Our Father and one Hail Mary suffice, or other suitable prayers. 6. A sacramental confession must he made within a week of completion of the prescribed work. (One confession made during the week, made with the intention of gaining all the indulgences, suffices.)

Additional Prayers and Acts for the Holy Souls † Eucharistic Adoration for a half hour † Pray the Rosary † Pray the Stations of the Cross † Fast and abstain from meat on All Souls Day, November 2nd † Fast and abstain from meat on all Friday’s during November

OCTOBER – RESECT LIFE MONTH

SIGN UP TO SPIRITUALLY ADOPT A BABY TODAY! Adoption Cards Available at the Doors of the Church

Pick up an adoption card at the doors of the church and begin praying daily to save the life of an unborn baby. Your prayers CAN make a difference between whether a baby will be born...or aborted. Our prayers can also be a form of spiritual support for both of the parents.

To help save the life of an unborn baby, it is recommended an individual say the following daily prayer for a period of nine months.

“Jesus, Mary and Joseph, I love you very much. I beg you to spare the life of [baby’s name] the unborn baby that I have spiritually adopted who is in danger of abortion.”

~ Prayer of Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen

Your Spiritually Adopted Baby’s Development The baby weighs about 1/8 of an ounce — just bigger than a penny. The tadpole-like tail is almost gone, and in its place are two little legs. Baby's head is still huge compared to the body, but it will get more proportional in the weeks to come. Inside, the reproductive organs are forming — although it's still too early to tell on an ultrasound whether the baby is a boy or girl. If you look closely, though, you might see the baby move!

September 25th – November 3rd The visible, public centerpiece of 40 Days for Life is a focused, 40-day, non-stop, round-the-clock prayer vigil outside a single Planned Parenthood center or other abortion facility in your community.

~40daysforlife.com

Please make time to visit an abortion clinic to pray to end abortion. Go to www.prolifelouisiana.org (Louisiana Right to Life website) and click on 40 Days for Life. You can then click on New Orleans or Baton Rouge clinic to schedule your visit. For help scheduling your visit, call Margaret Vidrine, St. Peter Pro-Life Coordinator, at 896-4637.

OCTOBER – MONTH OF THE HOLY ROSARY

The month of October is traditionally devoted to the Most Holy Rosary. During the month of October, before all Masses, we will be praying the Rosary and Litany of the Blessed Virgin Mary. All are encouraged to join us in prayer to our Blessed Mother!

PRAY THE ROSARY FOR THE PRIESTS IN YOUR LIFE

O Mary, Queen of the Clergy, pray for us and send us many and holy priests.

When praying the rosary offer the first decade for the priest who baptized you, the second for the priest who gave you first Communion, the third for the bishop who confirmed you, the fourth for the priest who witnessed your marriage or the bishop who ordained you (or will do so in the future), and the fifth decade for the priest who will anoint you at your death.

PATRIOTIC ROSARY EVERY MONDAY AT 5:30PM

You are invited to join with fellow parishioners in praying the Patriotic Rosary for peace and the conversion of our country. This beautiful rosary, which dedicates each Hail Mary to a specific state in the union, is prayed every Monday evening at 5:30pm in the church. For more info. call Ronald Fontenot at 277-8251.

AT NINE WEEKS

especially true when pro-life people can elect, in a close race, someone who will protect the unborn and remove from office someone who won’t. Among candidates who have a strong enough base to win, we have a moral obligation to vote in such a way that will do the most to advance the culture of life.

PRAYER: Lord, let me not miss the opportunity to advance what is good and right.

DIVINE MERCY MESSAGE

“JESUS, I TRUST IN YOU” St. Faustina: “O merciful God, You do not despise us, but lavish Your graces on us continuously. You make us fit to enter Your kingdom, and in Your goodness You grant that human beings may fill the places vacated by

the ungrateful angels. O God of great mercy, who turned Your sacred gaze away from the rebellious angels and turned it upon contrite man, praise and glory be to Your unfathomable mercy, O God who do not despise the lowly heart.” (Diary 1339)

NOVEMBER: MONTH DEDICATED TO THE HOLY SOULS IN PURGATORY

Let Us Pray for the Faithful Departed who have been Commended to our Prayers

ALL SOULS PRAYER O Lord, You took on our human nature and were clothed in our flesh in the womb of the Virgin Mother. By dying, You overthrew death and gave life to Your faithful. Through the intercession of Mary who gave You birth, we ask now that You grant rest with Your saints to those who have fallen asleep. You love and reign with Your Father and the Holy Spirit forever and ever. Amen.

Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord.

And let perpetual light shine upon them.

May they rest in peace. Amen.

Jesus, we trust in You.

A STEWARDSHIP MOMENT THIRTIETH SUNDAY OF ORDINARY TIME

There is an interesting twist we find in today’s gospel when we hear Jesus’ parable of the Pharisee and the tax collector praying in the temple. The Pharisee is “praying to himself.” It doesn’t mean he was praying silently. It seems to mean something a lot more troubling, that he is praying to himself; that God is not his prayer’s intended audience. The words of the Pharisee are very much centered on himself: he makes claims about his character. He highlights his own admirable activities. Good stewards of their prayer lives know that a prayer of praise and thanksgiving should focus on the goodness of God. Do your prayers of thanksgiving always stay focused on God’s unfathomable, immeasurable goodness and generosity?

ROSARY FOR PEACE - A Rosary for peace for our country & our soldiers will be prayed every Thursday before 6:30am Mass.
