All Christmas gifts for residents of our area nursing homes and Cardinal Hayes Home are

due in the Church by Sunday, December 9th (this weekend). Please be sure that the tag is

attached to the gift. Thank you for making their Christmas brighter!

Mariapolis Luminosa Nativity Display Each Christmas, throughout the month of December, Mariapolis Luminosa in Hyde Park displays over 200 Nativity

have made their Christmas season more meaningful. There will be musical performances at 2:00pm by St. Kateri

Choir, December 9th and The Poughkeepsie New Yorkers Barbershop Chorus, December 16th. Come, listen and

sing along to your favorite holiday tunes. A Baby Jesus Craft Workshop for children ages 4 and up will take

Polish Wigilia (Oplatek)

The Christmas Eve Wigilia Supper forms the focal point of the Polish Yuletide customs. Wigilia, which means vigil,

commemorates the birth of Jesus. For Polish families, the meal starts when the eastern star appears through the parlor window

to serve as a guide to the Birth of Jesus in the same manner as the star of Bethlehem was a guide to the Magi!

The meal begins with the ancient tradition of breaking oplatek, a thin wafer, or bread of love. It is passed to the

various members of the family who put it to their lips and wish each other Blessings for the upcoming year.

These wafers are now available in the Rectory Office.

UNCLE AL’S THRIFT SHOP

With just two weeks to go, we should be filled with the joyous spirit of Christmas. Why is it then that the season

seems so stressful? The busy-ness of the holidays can make us focus on shopping, baking, planning and cleaning

and lose sight of the beauty, the hope and joy of Christmas. Uncle Al’s can help! No need to travel for miles, get

bleary-eyed from ordering online or from catalogs. Our amazing thrift shop has much to offer, and very possibly

you might find that perfect gift, toy, doll, book or outfit that you’ve been looking for. Take your time, browse,

walk through more than once— little treasures can be tucked into a corner. If you have an impatient shopper

with you, there are a few chairs for resting. The best part is the proceeds from Uncle Al’s benefit our own parish,

St. Joseph-Immaculate Conception! The shop at 3275 Franklin Avenue is open Monday, Wednesday, Friday and

Saturday from 10:00am to 4:00pm.

Due to your overwhelming generosity, we can only accept Christmas donations at this time. Other donations

will gratefully be accepted after the New Year.

All proceeds benefit St. Joseph-Immaculate Conception Church.

March for Life Trip to Washington DC, January 18, 2019

Join the youth group from St. John’s in Pawling as we drive down to Washington DC and take a stand for

the dignity of all human life! We will leave from St. John’s at 4:00am, and arrive at DC in time for the

Rally and marching to the Supreme Court building. We will head home, with a stop for dinner, after that.

To reserve a $25.00 seat on the bus, please email Kate at [email protected] or call St. John’s

rectory at 845-855-5488 and leave your number for her.

The second collection today is for our Retired Religious. Thank you for your generosity.
