Subs for the year remain the same as last year at $180.00. Renewals will take place at the clubrooms every Tuesday for the months of March and April and on Saturday April 28 th for those not able to make Tuesday eve- nings. Membership renewal will be completed in person with cards being issued at the time. Keys will be recut (upon presentation of proof of renewal and firearms licence) on some Tuesdays also; spe- cifics to follow. Membership renewals WILL NOT be processed during the month of May. The reason for this is that our volunteers will be available for March and April and desire a break. Further, the time spent on renewals taxes people resources and in past years range officer focus has been compromised by members randomly wanting to renew memberships. The locks will be changed on the last day of April per usual and any members who have not renewed by May 31 st will have to apply for new membership through the the usual channels. No exceptions. As a member and a big grown up person it is YOUR responsibility to renew you membership if you so desire. The NZHA committee of volunteers is not going to chase you down and hold your hand to remind you. Renewal forms attached and on the web site. WORKING BEE MARCH 11 TH FROM 10:30AM Jobs to be completed include: Eastern boundary fence netting to be installed, grass on rifle range bunds to be cut, rubbish on eastern boundary to be cleaned up, target frame replacement, lawns cut, etc. Bring you tools. BBQ will be operating. SITE MAINTENANCE. Treetech will be conducting a tidy up on the sides of the embankments and bunds that they can ac- cess. The growth over the last 12 months has been phenomenal and low attendances at working bees has dictated that the club now has to pay to have this work done. Keep your powder dry. Jeff. SKEET TRAPS. It is with GREAT pleasure we can report the new Laporte 185 PC 350 PRO traps have arrived, been in-stalled in the skeet towers and are fully functional. Installation took place on Saturday February 4th with thanks to Geoff, Ivan, Simon, Lance. The traps each hold 350 clays in a 6 stack magazine and the cycle time from launch through reload to ready again is a mere 2 seconds. See www.laporte.biz for specifics of the traps. It is safe to say that all present at the install were impressed with how robust yet compact the devices are. The controller allows for the standard left or right clays to fire individually in addition to a perfectly synchronized pair or double tuned to cross right above the DTL trap house. The all up cost to the club was NZD7500.00 plus GST; an investment that will last a long time and serve us all well I am sure.

Left: Out with the old and in with the new. Geoff Cox is having the old trap mounted for his living room I am told. Right: Geoff and Ivan installing the very first of the Laporte traps into the left skeet tower.

Left: Ivan tuning the first of the traps. Centre: Ivan and Simon ready to unload the second device. Right: The trap in the right skeet tower full loaded with 350 clays ready for action. PULL!!!!!!

RIFLE RANGE FIRES. We have now had three (3) fires in the rubber material on the rifle range through suspected discharge of tracer ammunition. All fires have been attended to be astute club members and near disasters have been averted. Going forward the RO’s will inspect all 7.62X39 ammo on the range on a Tuesday evening when the general public are shooting. PLEASE! NO TRACER ROUNDS ON THE RANGE. If you have any doubts about the military surplus ammo you are about to shoot then STOP and find out for sure what it is. We can not afford a fire. SUNDAY SHOTGUN SHOOTS. Due to dwindling attendances at the monthly Sunday shotgun shoots (every second Sunday) the primary focus of the shooting convenors and RO’s on the day will now be coaching and development of junior members and those wishing to hone their skills. This is where the club’s new 20 gauge is likely to see a great deal of usage. The Satherley shoot will remain a Sunday fixture at this time. NEW CLUB SHOTGUN. The committee has approved the purchase of a 20 gauge semiautomatic Franchi youth shotgun to en-courage juniors and recoil sensitive shooters to come along and shoot a clay or 10. Ammo will be 24 gram/7/8 ounce loads in order to minimise the recoil and make the shooting enjoyable which after all is the aim of our game. Don’t underestimate what 7/8 ounce of shot can achieve on clays. Cost of the gun is NZD600.00. The committee has elected to purchase a semiauto gun on the basis of cost as double barrel over and under shotguns in 20 gauge start at approximately NZD1600.00. JEFF’S LATEST CAST BULLET MOULD. I have been known to surf the Cast Boolits web site on the odd occasion. OK. Daily. There are on going group buying opportunities to purchase custom made bullet moulds designed to the specifications of what the actual end user requires and not what a large manufacturer THINKS we want. I recently took receipt of my new 5 cavity NOE (Night Owl Enterprises) 314008 mould that has two plain base, two gas check and one gas check hollow point cavities. The bullet is a copy of the Lyman 311008, the origi-nal .32-20 bullet but is cut to throw a fatter bullet of nominal .314 inch depending on alloy. To the right is the mould and the first run of bul-lets cast in 40-1 alloy. That is alloy consisting of approximately 40 parts soft lead and 1 part tin. The tin acts to reduce the surface tension of the alloy and make it flow to form better bullets but also serves to increase the hardness somewhat. The bullets measure just shy of .314 inch and preliminary tests in my suppressed Martini .32-20 have been very promising. The wooden knob holds the probe that makes the hollow point in the last cavity.
