A FREE FESTIVAL OF PLAY READINGS CELEBRATING THE PLAYS OF NEW YORK CITY, AND FEATURING THE TALENTS OF LABYRINTH COMPANY MEMBERS, GUEST ARTISTS, AND OUR AUDIENCES. Over the course of one week, we will present special evenings of readings and discussions curated around different New York themes – iconic playwrights, vibrant cultures, urban ideals, and more – which will culminate in a grand finale, blow-out weekend of forty-eight hours of round-the-clock theater. Our goal is to pay tribute to our hometown and to the rich tradition of New York plays that continues to inspire us as a Company. We want to give every New Yorker the chance to see the City as we do – as our set, as our characters, as our muse.

THE INDIAN WANTS THE BRONX by Israel Horovitz An Indian man  is  wai&ng  for  a  bus  to  the  Bronx when he is approached by two young punks, Joey and Murph, who begin teasing him. Name-calling taunts eventually result in acts of rage and violence in this classic 1964 off-Broadway play. The reading will be followed by a symposium about the Off-Broadway movement moderated by playwright, Israel Horovitz.

IN ARABIA, WE’D ALL KINGS by Stephen Adly Guirgis A reading of Labyrinth’s iconic 1999 production about the not-so-quiet desperation of a group of Hell’s Kitchen barflies trying to make ends meet in Giuliani-era New York. The reading will be followed by a symposium about Labyrinth Theater Company’s deeply-rooted connection with NYC and will include Stephen Adly Guirgis

FREE TICKETS Will be distributed the day of each reading through a digital lottery. Beginning at 10am each day, you may enter the lottery at labtheater.org for that night’s reading. Names will be drawn at 3pm and you may request up to 2 tickets per person. A standby line will form at the theater prior to each reading for last minute ticket availability. Labpass Members may make an advance reservation for one reading of their choice.
