NY is the debut album of drummer and composer

Morten Poulsen, featuring american pianist Russ

Lossing. Russ and Morten first met in New York in

summer 2013. The energy and chemistry was

there and the two decided to make sure they

would work together again.

Two years after, on a very cold february day, Russ

and Morten met up in the recording studio of

engineer Paul Wickliff and recorded songs for the

album NY, which is the danish word for New. Prior

to this, Morten had spent two weeks in New York

where he composed music for the album, taking

inspiration from the experiences of the city and its

history, post-war classical music and reflections

on life and personality.

The duo also recorded Etude by Paul Motian

Bio

Morten Poulsen is a young danish

drummer, composer and sound artist,

whose constant curiosity and playful

approach have been break ing

boundaries between styles since early

childhood. With an entrepreneurial

spirit, Morten has collaborated with

artists from many countries and is the

founder of the record label Outrovaert.

Russ Lossing is an american pianist,

composer and arranger and is known

for his unique vision, deep integrity

and thoughtfully humanistic voice.

Lossing’s brief but intense study with

John Cage in the early 80’s and his

more recent 12 year association with

Paul Motian continue to inform his

music at present.
