Sachie Ogata (Former nursery teacher )

3.11 Experience

"We saw the tsunami coming towards us. We thought it was too late but we ran to the second floor. The water came up to our necks. We were holding onto the curtain rails

thinking we were going to die, but luckily the water receded and our lives were saved."

Thoughts on SECOND CHANCE

"I have always enjoyed knitting. Spending my time productively and making handmade goods is much more fun than staying at the temporary housing."

Megumi Aizawa (Lives with husband and 5 children)

3.11 Experience

"I was at home with four of my children. I didn't know what to do. It was hard to grasp what was going on. I grabbed a few diapers and wet wipes and jumped into the car. The roads were already

flooded. If we had waited another 30 seconds, we probably wouldn't have made it."

Thoughts on SECOND CHANCE

"I think it's wonderful to be able to create something by hand for someone. I can work when my time allows and earn money."

Junko Abe

3.11 Experience

"I was at home but it felt like I was on a trampoline. All my furniture collapsed and the floor was covered in debris. I couldn't grab any of my belongings so I escaped empty-handed. I was told to go

to the mountain. I spent the night in my car. I felt sea-sick from the earthquake and aftershocks." Thoughts on SECOND CHANCE

"I used to knit and sew but everything I had made was washed away. This project gave me the energy to want to knit again. Before this, I couldn't even imagine knitting. I didn't know anyone at first, but despite our age differences, we work together and I find it easy to talk with them."
