Introduction
Introduction
Overview
Network Video Recorder, or NVR, is an Internet protocol (IP) camera recording system that is used for
surveillance and security purposes. Users can flexibly manage NVR remotely over Internet or LAN, no
specific hardware installation is needed.
NVR's basic function is to ensure remote access to a live video stream from the IP camera with a
simultaneous video recording. It's a digital system that records the videos or digital images received over
the network and saves to a storage disk. NVR has a user-friendly GUI with these basic functions: flexible
recording, easy playback, smart motion detection, PTZ (Pan/Tilt/Zoom) camera control capability, and
other useful features. It's also capable of handling great amount of video streams for recording and
rebroadcasting. You can place the unit anywhere, unlike the DVR (digital video recorder) which is only
limited to nearby areas.
An NVR server on EonStor GSe Pro Family can give you more features such as Live View, Recording,
Playback and more, and these will be detailed in the later chapters of this document. With VMS Remote
Client which is Video Management System software, you can set up alarm rules with mail notification and
schedule video recording in different modes such as always recording, motion detection, and event
detection. With SyncCloud's partnership, you can sync your data such as multimedia files or logs to a cloud
storage provided by the cloud service providers. To know more about SyncCloud, please see SyncCloud
Feature Guide. We provided detailed information about GSe Pro Family combined with NVR server features
in section Specifications. Also, NVR server must be enabled via license activation.

Introduction
[Notes]
1. The usable capacity depends on the RAID level configuration and different models. Please check datasheet on Infortrend
official website for detailed information.
2. 64 cameras are tested with bit rate = 6 Mbps/camera.
3. With an advanced license, EonStor GSe Pro Family can support the following number of cameras. The camera number and
memory configuration are tested in our lab with stable operation result:
Model Camera Number Memory Configuration
Tower
GSe Pro 200 32 8GB
GSe Pro 200T 64 16GB
Rackmount
GSe Pro 1000 16 4GB
GSe Pro 3000/3000T 64 16GB
You can purchase different camera channels on your demand:
VMS Enterprise Channel Add-on License
+ 1 Channel
+ 4 Channel
+ 8 Channel
+ 16 Channel
+ 32 Channel
For example, if you already have 4 free channels and buy a 32 channel add-on license, you can have 4+32=36 channels.
The license can be continuously added on with no channel limitation, but it may impact system performance if deployed
channels exceed recommended configuration.
4. With the default setting, the capacity used by one camera is:
Stream 1 = (4 Mbps / 8) x 60 sec. x 60 min. x 24 hrs x 1.1 (10% reserved space) = 47.52 GB/day.
Stream 2 = (0.5 Mbps / 8) x 60 sec. x 60 min. x 24 hrs x 1.1 (10% reserved space) = 5.94 GB/day.
Total used capacity = Stream 1 + Stream 2 ≈ 53.5 GB/day.
For more information about Dual Stream Recording, please refer to Recording section.
5. NVR Server now supports Sync Mode in SyncCloud. Cache Mode will be supported in 2018 Q1.

Features
Refer to the list below for Live View’s key functions and their descriptions:
Device Browser
Device Browser in VMS Remote/Web Client supports these viewing modes: 1 x 1, 1 x 3, 2 x 2, and 1 + 3 with
4 IP cameras in one single screen. With the advanced license, a total of 6 x 6 screens of video feeds are
displayed simultaneously. You can modify the display according to your preference.
E-map Explorer
The E-map Explorer helps visualize the layout of the IP camera deployment. When an alarm occurs, you can
quickly identify the location of each IP camera. By uploading the layout of the monitored place and drawing
IP camera icons in the E-map, you can get alerts via a flashing icon. It shows that somewhere is not in
normal status.
Live View Control
The Live View Control Panel allows you to adjust the PTZ camera features. With the supported cameras,
Live View Control gives high flexibility to let you customize the remote view. You can also set up preset
positions and auto pan for PTZ cameras to automatically adjust the camera angle to its preset positions by
the time interval you defined.
Instant Playback
On VMS Remote Client's Live View screen, you can check and look back at suspicious events of a specific
camera channel anytime. Just right-click on the video screen then click Instant Play button to display the
playback window and review the recent recorded video. The time setting can be set to 20 seconds, 1
minute, 5 minutes, 30 minutes, and 45 minutes. You can still have full live views of other IP cameras
simultaneously even if you don't switch to the playback screen.

Features
Recording
Flexible options of IP camera settings such as Encoding Method, Resolution, Frame Rate, Bit Rate, and
Schedule can be set up via VMS Remote Client. Dual stream recording is supported. Stream 1 is
high-resolution recording (highest resolution of installed camera with 4 Mbps bit rate) and Stream 2 is
low-resolution recording (QVGA with 512 Kbps bit rate). Stream 1 is used for 2*2 live views (or less) while
Stream 2 is used for more than 2*2 views in a screen.
Encoding Method
NVR server supports MPEG-4, H.264, H.265, and M-JPEG encoding. With different types of encoding
method, high-quality of videos is recorded for future playbacks.
Resolution
Demands such as capacity-concern or sharpness-concern, the resolution can be rearranged. It is optional to
set resolution to QVGA(320x240), VGA(640x480), D1(720x480), 720P(1280x720), SXGA(1280x1024),
1080P(1920x1080), and 1536P(2048x1536).
Frame Rate
Frame rate is the frequency at which consecutive images called frames are displayed. It is expressed in
frames per second or fps. The higher frame rate is, the heavier CPU loading will get. Frame rate setting of
NVR ranges from 1, 2, 3, 5… to 30.
Bit Rate
Bit Rate is the number of bits that are conveyed or processed per unit of time. If resolution is high, we
recommend setting bit rate higher to avoid compression distortion. However, higher bit rate will lead to
larger video size. Fixed bit rate is optional for 1, 2, 4, 6, and 10 Mbps.
