What NVQ qualifications are available?
There is a range of NVQ qualifications in the construction sector designed to suit any construction professional.
LEVEL 6• Construction Site Management – suitable
for Site Managers and those specialising in building and civil engineering.
• Construction Contracting Operations Management – suitable for a range of occupations including Construction Project Managers, Quantity Surveyors, Building Surveyors and many more.
• Controlling Lifting Operations for those planning lifts on site.
• Built Environment Design Management – suitable for those managing design operations and implementation.
• Senior Site Inspection – suitable for Site Inspectors or Clerks of Works.
LEVEL 7• Construction Senior Management – suitable
for those working in a management role in the industry including Construction and Contracts Managers, Quantity Surveyors and Senior Managers and Directors.
• Built Environment Design and Consultancy Practice – suitable for Design Managers and Consultants.

What are National Vocational Qualifications?National Vocational Qualifications are nationally recognised competence qualifications that help you develop knowledge and skills in your chosen occupation.
NVQs are based on work-based learning and are delivered in the workplace. An assessor helps the learner to build up a portfolio of evidence to demonstrate competence in the occupation. NVQs are widely respected by employers because they are evidence of what you can do as well as what you know. NVQs are available in key construction occupations at QCF Level 6, comparable to British Bachelor degree level and Level 7, British Master’s degree level.
Who are National Vocational Qualifications designed for?NVQs are often the qualification of choice for busy construction professionals who don’t want to take time from work to undertake classroom based studies.
NVQs are ideal for those who wish to develop their careers and who prefer practical, skills based learning in the workplace.
What level of membership can I get with an NVQ?
The CIOB recognises Pearson Edexcel NVQs which provide routes to Chartered Membership of the CIOB and are also linked to the Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) card system. The Pearson Level 6 NVQs in construction occupations give access to Chartered Membership through the Professional Review.
The Level 7 NVQs give exemption from the competence requirements of the Professional Review and an accelerated route to Chartered Membership.
Candidates holding a Pearson Edexcel Level 7 NVQ in a construction occupation need only complete a short application for Chartered Membership based on professional judgement and commitment to the code of ethics.
