FTL & LTL Case Study - A Transport Tendering Case (Bulk, Ocean and Packed)

classes and by having a more complex route structure and a different set of

In 2001, one of Europe's largest Polymer producers for whom operational
excellence and innovation is as important to transport tendering as for any other
process, became a development customer of Traconi. They wanted to get its
specific needs for complex tender structures implemented.
The project involved the transport of packed goods from more than 25 shipping
points and to 2000 destinations, or put differently, more than 4000 lines. The
transport was divided in 3 categories; bulk, ocean and packed. In addition a
reduction of total transport cost, the customer was also looking for administrative
efficiency improvements and a faster sourcing process. No wonder this tender
project was an operational and management challenge.

Eighty carriers had been prequalified for a closed tender project. Most were bidding
for a few specific sub-tenders and only a handful for the entire project.
Because of the number of locations involved, a downloadable Excel bid form was
developed to the standard solution, so carriers could distribute its bidding work to
several resources. When bidding for only a few sub-tenders, the web application
was still a convenient tool.

The tender project had a total lifecycle of 3 months from initiation to end with the
following results:
