President’s Letter — Susan Wilper, Alumnae Chapter President A Recipe for Success… That is the theme for this year’s IRD and a theme that we have carried throughout this first year of our revived Epsilon Kappa Alumnae Chapter. We have been very busy this year, and I thank each and every one of you that have contributed to our success. Your participation, input and support is key to our recipe for success. With your participation and through collaboration, communication and a focus on the Purpose, we can truly thrive as a Chapter. By building a strong structure for EKAC, we are building a framework for supporting our collegiate chapter and for fostering relationships with our Alumnae across the country. We encourage all of you to participate, both near and far. We have held a variety of events thus far including the joint Kitchen Shower with the Greater Kansas City Alumnae Club, tailgating at the Arrowhead Classic and at Homecoming, a Christmas Party with Santa, and Valentine Cookie Baking and Sales. We have IRD coming shortly and will be selling an EKAC Cookbook featuring photos and chapter history. We are also working on developing fundraising, philanthropy and collegiate support programs. We are hoping to launch an Alumnae Mentor program where we will pair Alumnae with Collegiate members to serve in a mentor capacity. I am also hoping to launch a blog on our website. There are new ideas being formed everyday. Stay up to date by checking our website (www.agdpsualum.com ) frequently for the latest events and event photographs. Variety is the spice of life. So let’s get squirrels from every decade involved and let’s show our red, buff and green sisterhood spirit. Together we can mold the future of our Chapter. Our membership is the most important ingredient for our success. Loyally, Susan Chapter Advisor’s Letter— Cassandra Jarrett Cleaver, Chapter Advisor Is there a television show that you watch with your husband, friend or roommate that you don’t really even like? Do you find yourself wondering why you are even wasting your time, and let’s be honest, wishing that you had the remote? Even with 30 minutes a month, you can make an enormous difference within the lives of our collegiate women. There have been many years in the recent and maybe even not so recent past that Epsilon Kappa has been overseen and guarded by only a few dedicated women that took on numerous advisor roles. With busy lives, families and work pulling them in different ways, it always seemed that advisors were hard to come by and even harder to keep. We are very excited to announce that currently we have only a few advisors roles that are available to be taken. I know you are wondering if you actually read my last paragraph correctly, but you did! With the EKAC forming, the chapter has been on the receiving end of more than just gifts from their wonderful kitchen shower and cookies that they bring to the chapter house for Valentine’s Day. We are currently reaping the rewards of having a nearly full advisor team. Collegiate officers are able to have their own advisor, spend time with them individually and work to grow the bond of sisterhood throughout their year together. We are very thankful to those of you who have volunteered to help the chapter—past, present and future. I know that I have certainly learned as much from these wonderful, young women as I hope they have from me. If you are interested in getting involved with the collegiate chapter, please feel free to contact me with any questions or for more information at Cas[email protected] or 620.212.1151. President’s Letter — Susan Wilper, Alumnae Chapter President

A Recipe for Success… That is the theme for this year’s IRD and a theme that we have carried throughout this first year of our revived Epsilon Kappa Alumnae Chapter.  We have been very busy this year, and I thank each and every one of you that have contributed to our success.  Your participation, input and support is key to our recipe for success.  With your par‐ticipation and through col‐laboration, communication and a focus on the Purpose, we can truly thrive as a Chap‐ter.

By building a strong structure for EKAC, we are building a framework for supporting our collegiate chapter and for fostering relationships with

our Alumnae across the coun‐try.  We encourage all of you to participate, both near and far.

We have held a variety of events thus far including the joint Kitchen Shower with the Greater Kansas City Alumnae Club, tailgating at the Arrow‐head Classic and at Home‐coming,  a Christmas Party with Santa, and Valentine Cookie Baking and Sales.  We have IRD coming shortly and will be selling an EKAC Cook‐book featuring photos and chapter history.  We are also working on developing fund‐raising, philanthropy and collegiate support programs.

We are hoping to launch an Alumnae Mentor program

where we will pair Alumnae with Collegiate members to serve in a mentor capacity.  I am also hoping to launch a blog on our website.  There are new ideas being formed everyday.  Stay up to date by checking our website (www.agdpsualum.com) fre‐quently for the latest events and event photographs.

Variety is the spice of life.  So let’s get squirrels from every decade involved and let’s show our red, buff and green sisterhood spirit.  Together we can mold the future of our Chapter. Our membership is the most important ingredi‐ent for our success.

Susan

Chapter Advisor’s Letter— Cassandra Jarrett Cleaver, Chapter Advisor Is there a television show that you watch with your husband, friend or roommate that you don’t really even like? Do you find yourself wondering why you are even wasting your time, and let’s be honest, wishing that you had the re‐mote? Even with 30 minutes a month, you can make an enormous difference within the lives of our collegiate women.

There have been many years in the recent and maybe even not so recent past that Epsi‐lon Kappa has been overseen and guarded by only a few dedicated women that took on numerous advisor roles. With busy lives, families and work pulling them in different

ways, it always seemed that advisors were hard to come by and even harder to keep. We are very excited to announce that currently we have only a few advisors roles that are available to be taken.

I know you are wondering if you actually read my last para‐graph correctly, but you did! With the EKAC forming, the chapter has been on the receiv‐ing end of more than just gifts from their wonderful kitchen shower and cookies that they bring to the chapter house for Valentine’s Day. We are cur‐rently reaping the rewards of having a nearly full advisor team. Collegiate officers are able to have their own advisor, spend time with them individu‐

ally and work to grow the bond of sisterhood through‐out their year together.

We are very thankful to those of you who have volunteered to help the chapter—past, present and future. I know that I have certainly learned as much from these wonder‐ful, young women as I hope they have from me. If you are interested in getting involved with the collegiate chapter, please feel free to contact me with any questions or for more information at Cas‐[email protected] or 620.212.1151.

What a successful first year the EK Alum‐nae Chapter has had.  It was a pleasure to feature all the women who supported our chapter by paying dues in 2009‐2010 in the last newsletter.  We continue to fea‐ture the 64 women who contributed on the Chapter website at www.agdpsualum.com under the Alumnae Chapter Members tab.

The Alumnae Chapter programs and sup‐port for the Collegiate Chapter would not be possible without the dues and dona‐

tions of our membership.

We have included in the newsletter the 2010—2011 Alumnae Chapter Membership form.  Dues are not due until June 1, 2010 but we wanted to give everyone an opportunity to save a stamp and mail your dues back with your IRD reservation or pay at IRD.  Those who do will be eligible to win a beautiful limited edition Alpha Gamma Delta rose bracelet that was the Feast of Roses favor from the 2006 Convention.    The bracelet designed for Alpha Gamma Delta exclusively by Bethany Adams

Collegiate Chapter Report January

Officer elections were held and new offi‐cers installed for 2010.  Holly Hrabik is the new Chapter President.  Congratulations Holly and the new officers.

Our Chapter placed 2nd among sororities in Cumulative GPA for Fall 2009.

Several members of Epsilon Kappa Chapter attended a Basic Leadership Conference on the 30th at  Student Center. It was held from 10 am to 4:30pm. All those who at‐tended went to 4 sessions throughout the day learning how to "Love the Life you Lead". Michael Miller was the invited speaker.

Did you attend the Kitchen Shower last summer or buy something off the registry to support the girls with new items?  If you did, we appreciate your contribution.  Over 30 women from the Epsilon Kappa and Greater Kansas City Alumnae Chapters attended the shower or made a donation.

Contributions included all the typical items you would expect to see at a Kitchen Shower—muffin pans, measuring cups, storage containers, a blender and a snazzy new set of knives.  The beautiful new items are much nicer than the hand‐me‐down’s from mom most of us moved to college with and very fitting for the gorgeous new kitchen they now occupy.

The event was so successful and so well received by the collegians that we are plan‐ning a second event for Summer 2010.  This year we are taking on redecorating the formal room.

With the input of the collegians and in co‐ordination with the House Decorating Com‐mittee, we will once again create a registry with items of various price ranges available for purchase either in store or on‐line.

If you are interested in contributing to the shower effort either as a committee mem‐ber or in making a donation of food / drinks for the shower or offering your home as a potential location, we would love to hear

from you.  You can contact Heather Rubesch at 913.219.5203 or [email protected]

Additional details will be announced at IRD and will be updated as they become avail‐able on the www.agdpsualum.com web‐site.
