Nursing: What You Need to KnowCare

Plan/EducationUpdate

(Effective 11/6)

The Patient Care Overview (PCO) and Generic Teaching Goals/Outcomes will now be automatically addedwhen the patients chart is opened for the first time by nursing staff or ancillary users that utilize Care Plans(Therapists, Case Management/Social Work, Respiratory Therapists, etc.).

The clinician that opens the chart will receive this one-time, informational pop-up.

This will help ensure that the PCO stays located at the top of the Care Plan, above the Clinical PracticeGuidelines (CPGs) and help with patient populations/workflows where accessing the Admission/Admit Navigatoris not applicable.

There is an available video on the Epic Userweb that will guide you on customizing patient lists.

All MyList Templates have been updated. If your MyList is built from a template, you will see the followingmessage to indicate changes have been made:

Bed is the first column in all MyList Templates All columns in MyList Templates are optional if a column isnt meaningful to you, you can now remove it:

Medications

Expired medicines will no longer automatically come off the medicine list. Instead, they will appear in grey withan (Expired) after the medicine name/dosing. These medicines can quickly be reordered by clicking the reorderbutton.

If the expired medicine is truly no longer being taken, you can discontinue the medicine by clicking the X

Discontinued medicine are removed from the medicine list immediately.

SurgeryPostoperative

Diagnosis

As part of the surgical debrief the postoperative diagnosis should be updated.

While MLH maps many procedures to a single CPT code - it's the procedure description that carries to thepatient's surgical history, discharge summary after visit summary and is shared with other users on Epic.
