NSS REGULAR ACTIVITY REPORT 2015-16 KAHM Unity Women’s College Manjeri

Following are the reports of various regular activities organized by the National

Service Scheme Units (NO. 08 & 171) of KAHM Unity Women’s College Manjeri

during the academic year June 2015 to March 2016.

1. World Environment Day

Awareness Class, planting of tree saplings and administration of

pledge to protect the environment marked the observance of World

Environment Day here in KAHM Unity College on Friday, June 5th 2015.

Saplings were planted inside the campus. Advo. M. Ummer M.L.A inaugurated

the exercise by planting a sapling in the presence of M.S.F leaders, College

manager, principal and NSS volunteers. In his speech Advo.Ummer

emphasized the need to protect the environment from pollution and

importance of sapling planting. As many as 200 tree saplings planted at Unity

College. Volunteers also took a pledge to protect the environment.

2. Reading Day

NSS units of KAHM Unity Women's College and Department of

Malayalam jointly organized “Ente Vaayana" programme to commemorate the

memory of P. N. Panickar, the father of Library Movement in whose name the

Reading Day is observed in Kerala, on 19th of June 2015. Volunteers presented

their reviews on various readings which was a memorable experience to the

participants.

3. International Yoga Day .

In connection with the International Yoga Day, on June 21st, 2015. Prof. Balagopalan, former H.o.D of Physical Education Dept. Guruvayoorappan College Calicut has taken an hour long yoga session in the College auditorium. More 75 NSS volunteers of our college have attended the session.

4. Anti-Narcotic Day Celebrations

On 25th June 2015, the NSS Volunteers of KAHM Unity Women's College participated in a Rally organized by Vigilance dept. of Malappuram to create awareness among the public against the use of Narcotic products, on the occasion of Anti Narcotic Day Celebrations. Holding placards announcing the demerits of Narcotic products, NSS Volunteers covered the premises of the Manjeri town shouting slogans against the use of Narcotics.

5. Tribute to Dr. A PJ Abdul Kalam

Paying tribute to late Dr. A PJ Abdul Kalam, NSS Units of Unity College organized a talk in d seminar hall on 31st July 2015. Adv Mohammed shareef has delivered key note address. The programme was attended by staff and students, who also shared their thoughts on APJ.

6. Independence Day celebration

The Independence Day celebration was conducted jointly by the

NSS & NCC of KAHM Unity Women's college on 15th August 2015. The National

flag of India was hoisted by the Principal Dr.C Saidalavi by 9.am in the college

campus and gave Independence Day message which was followed by NSS & NCC

songs. After sharing sweets & Paayasam, NSS Volunteers moved to the seminar

hall where the celebrations continued. After NSS prayer song, O.Abdul Ali,

Manager, Unity College addressed the gathering; he elaborated on patriotism

towards the country and also asked d students to contribute for the growth the

society. The principal C. Saidalavi shared few words on patriotism, followed by a

brief cultural session. After the vote of thanks by Miss. FASEELA of 3rd Sem,

student programme ended with the National Anthem. On the occasion of

Independence Day, an inter departmental 'Quiz competition' based on

Contemporary India was conducted by NSS Units of Unity College on 12 th August

2015. The Event was anchored by Mr. Shabeermon.M. Trophies were presented

to the winners.

7. c2c Programme inaugurated

NSS Units of KAHM Unity Women's College Manjeri has started

a community outreach programme (c2c) by spending a whole day in Anakkayam

Punjayath on 29th Aug 2015. The Campus to Community Programme (c2c) was

inaugurated by the ward member U.Nani Sahib. The focus of the event was on

spreading the importance of organic farming, initiating activities that will help to

determine the water quality and also making the public aware about the

vegetables having the highest pesticide content. As a part of the event,

Dr.Usman, Assistant Professor of Botany has delivered an inspiring talk on

organic farming.

8. Campus Cleaning

A cleaning programme was organized in the campus on 12th

September 2015 which was attended by 120 volunteers.

9. International Old Age day Celebrations'15

Unity NSS volunteers participated in the International Old Age day Celebrations'15. More than 95 Old Age citizens were honored on

thursday (Oct 1) during a function organized by Manjeri municipality to mark International Day of Older Persons. NSS volunteers of unity women’s college have taken part in the various programmes in connection with the event. The function was inaugurated by the Home minister Ramesh Chennithala.

10.Gandhi Jayanti Celebration

On October 2nd NSS Units of Unity College Manjeri has celebrated Gandhi Jayanti in a befitting manner. In connection with the day we have organized a campus cleaning programme.NSS Programme Officer Mis Jaseena C gave the guidance to the volunteers. They were divided in to 7 groups with a team leader. Each team was allotted specific area for cleaning. The volunteers took part in the progamme with great enthusiasm. They proved that they are dedicated to do anything for the society. Earlier in the morning Principal C. Saidalavi shared a few words on the relationship between NSS and Gandhiji which was followed by a documentary presentation on Gandhi and some speeches from the part of volunteers on the contemporary significance of Gandhian ideology. The programme ended by 4.00 P.M.

11.Participation In Various Programmes

NSS Programme officer shabeermon. M (Unit no.8) and Mis

jaseena.C (Unit No. 171) have attended the NSS annual Award function held

at Seminar Complex, university of Calicut on 7th October 2015. The event was

inaugurated by the V.C Khader Mangad. On 13th October 2015, kerala state

yuvajanakshema Board has organized a programme titled “ Jeevadayani

Samagra Raktha dhana programme at Malappuram. The aim of the

programme was to enlighten the NSS programme officers about the

importance of blood donation among the students.

Representing Unity College NSS Mis Jaseena.C, prograame officer has taken

part in the event. Similarly with an aim to create awareness on cleanness in

campus and in NSS adopted village a programme was organized by the

District Suchitwa Mission Malappuram as a part of Swatch Bharath Mission

2015 on 14th October at Malappuram Town hall. Mis. Jaseena. C has attended

the programme along with two NSS volunteers. Mr. shabeermon. M has taken

NSS orientation classes at different institutions especially at Govt. girl’s school

tirur, sri shastha College edakkad, Psmo college Tirurangadi.

12.Group Dynamism

With an aim to make NSS volunteers more active a One

Day programme on Group Dynamism was organized in Unity College on 17th

October 2015. Around 55 students have attended the sessions which was

handled by the NSS programme officer Shabeermon. M.

13.Constitution Day

NSS Units of KAHM Unity Women's college manjeri

organized a function to observe 1st Constitution Day at Seminar hall on 26

November 2015. State vice president of National confederation of human right

organization Advo. SADIK Naduthodi was the chief guest on the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion, Advo.Sadik talked in detail on the formation of

Constitution, constitutional and fundamental rights, social, economic and

political justice and liberty. Principal Dr.C saidalavi also spoke on the occasion.

Nss volunteers and few faculty members of the college were also present.

Earlier,C. jaseena , Nss programme officer presented the welcome address and

in the end, Faseela C presented vote of thanks.

14.Shalom Matha Visit

Our NSS team visited Shalom matha Centre on Saturday 28 th

November 2015. Located @Cherani near MANJERI, Shalom Matha rehabilitation

centre is a non- profit organization with no funds or other outside resources. It

functions because of some very generous friends and neighbors who donate their

time and money to keep it afloat and help them take care of more than 70

destitute women.

15.AIDS Day

NSS Units of KAHM Unit Women's College organised AIDS Day

observance on 1st December, 2015. The observance started with an AIDS

awareness class by Dr.Hassainar at the Seminar Hall. At 12:30 pm an Aids

Awareness Procession was flagged off by Shabeermon. Prof.Meera Devi delivered

the AIDS day message. Noushad Sir, Jaseena mis and Dr. Abdulla PP led the

procession. Few NSS volunteers donated their blood as a part of observance.

16.Visit to Cherani Tourism Project.

Cherani is a location in Manjeri Municipality. It is famous

for its beautiful landscape which is very much evident in the Cherani

tourism project of Government of Kerala. Our NSS team visited the place on

December 5th, 2015.Mr. Noushadali, Coordinator of Tourism; Unity College

gave a brief description about the project.

17.Visit to Thavanur Old Age Home.

On saturday 12 th december 2015, NSS Volunteers of KAHM Unity women's college visited Thavanur Old Age home. This home (under govt of kerala) is one of the prominent and important center for the people who are not getting care from their home,children,family or spouse. 60 inmates are presently residing in the old age home. On reaching there all of us assembled in the front area after which we went in groups to their rooms and sat down to listen to what they had to say. Some of them even had tears in their eyes when they were talking about their past stories. Some of them were weak and sick made us extremely emotional.

This trip reminded our volunteers of the reality of what true life is. We are always cribbing about what life is not offering us although we have everything. We should have due respect for the old people and lend our ears for a minute and just wait for them to express their thoughts. We also visited nearby MAHILA MANDIR and donated few clothes and other useful items. After lunch, a short visit to the ponnani harbor and beach made our trip more meaningful.

18.Oorja samrakshana dinam

In connection with the "Oorja samrakshana dinam " a seminar on Energy Management was organized at KAHM unity women's college jointly with Oorja samrakshana Samiti, Govt. of Kerala and NSS units on December 14, 2015 to give an awareness among the students. The Seminar was inaugurated by Mis Subaida, manjeri municipal chair person. Dr C.Saidalavi, Principal, presided over the function. Welcome address was given by Mr. Hameedali, district convenor. Mr. Swabir was the resource person. There were nearly 100 participants. Brochures were distributed among the participants high lighting the different methods of Energy management. A poster presentation was also organized at the auditorium.

19. NSS Annual Trip to Kuruva Island.

On Jauary 5th 2016, four teaching staff and 75 Nss Volunteers have conducted a picnic to Kuruva Dweep, Wayanad. The trip was a memorable one to the volunteers. We have also visited Banasura Dam.

20. Participation in MSP Medical Camp.

A free Medical Camp was organized @Nedumkayam by Msp janamytri malappuram in association with mitra jyothi kerala and various nss units on 31st December, 2015. 17 nss volunteers and a programme officer of our college were attended the camp. More than 150 tribal people of nedumkayam were benefited from the camp.

21. Republic Day

Unity NSS observed Republic Day on 26 Jan, 2016 .Advocate Ashraf was the chief guest. He gave a detailed speech about the significance of the day.

22. NSS team Won first Prize.

Unity NSS Team won first prize at the intercollegiate quiz competition held at Malappuram on 6th February 2016. The team includes Juneesha, Ameenaa, Linshida, shaboom and shimna of first year B.Com CA. The event organized by IMG Calicut was aimed to create awareness among students about RTI 2005. NSS Volunteers from 12 colleges attended the competition.

23. Donation to Kidney Patients

On 3rd February 2016, an amount of RS 8250 was donated to Kidney patients of Manjeri Medical College. It was our NSS volunteers who have collected this money from the staffs and students of Unity College.

24. Women’s Day Celebration

NSS Units and Bhumika of Manjeri jointly celebrated Women’s Day at Unity College on March 8th 2016. Celebration was inaugurated by Miss. Mariyath CH whose speech was an inspiring one to the participants. Miss Laxmidas gave an our long talk on the significance of women’s Day. Prizes were distributed to the winners of Slogan Competition.

25.World Water Day.

NSS Units observed World Water Day 2016 on 23rd March at College. Mr. Abdul Azeez from the Dept. of Irrigation, Govt. of Kerala delivered a talk on the need for saving the water for the posterity. Dr. C.Salam, Associate Professor of Botany, Unity College also shared few thoughts on the occasion.
