Project description: Jets at the EIC

Study jet production and propagation in the clean environment of electron-nucleus (e+A) and (e+p) collisions at the EIC

Perform high precision calculation for newly identified jet observables at an EIC

Perform feasibility studies for EIC measurements of such physics processes, identify key observables and develop the necessary analysis techniques.

Project status

Ø First complete theoretical calculation of parton splittingin cold and hot QCD media. NNLO accuracy achieved in thenewly proposed “improved opacity expansion” scheme.

Ø Novel substructure observable proposed “jet hardness” with an associated grooming technique (dynamical grooming) that outperforms state-of-the-art substructure techniques.

Ø A new background estimation method for pp and AA jet studies: Novel approach exploiting the correlations between the hard and the soft components of a jet to improve the resolution of the jet transverse momentum: 5 to 40 % improvement w.r.t. existing method, extension to e+A with JETSCAPE

Ø First NLO+NLLx computation of dijet+photon production in DIS at small x
