ACCESS AND ENTRY
Access to Hospital Campus
o All employees are required to access NPH through the secured turnstiles located across from the Tower
parking garage.
o A special BARA badge is required to enter through the secured turnstiles.
o Building access hours are 8:00 am 5:00 pm.

Walk Path to Main Entrance
o After entering through the secured turnstile, employees can proceed straight down the walk path to
enter through the main patient and visitor entrance.
o Please note once the hospital opens to the public, employees are then asked to enter the hospital
through the designated staff entrance.
o Entry through the main entrance doors is available during normal business hours.
o Early morning or late night entry requires a scan of the ID badge at the badge scanner located on the
wall near the first and last door.

Main Entrance Lobby and Atrium
o After entering through the main entrance doors, you will be in the lobby and atrium area.
o The Gift shop and touch screen displays are located in the lobby.
o Leaf patterns in the lobby floor serves as subtle visual way finders to help one remember their location.

Common Areas
Main Entrance Lobby and Atrium
o To the right (when facing the gift shop) is additional seating area.
o Parkland memorabilia (previously located near MacGregor in the old hospital) can be found in this area
o Parkland police will have a presence and office in the main entrance.
o Public restrooms are located within this section across from the seating area.

Common Areas
Multi-Faith Chapel
o In between the cafeteria and Parkland Memorabilia area is the Multi-Faith Chapel.
o The chapel can accommodate approximately 178 people.
o Two huge doors in the back of the chapel slide open to the chapel garden.

Common Areas
Cafeteria
o The cafeteria is located on the first floor around the corner from the multi-faith chapel
o The new cafeteria approximate seating capacity is over 700 people.
o Seating will be available for outdoor dining.
o Entry is available to the cafeteria from the outdoor gardens.

o A private dining area is designated in the new cafeteria.
o A large screen display is located against back wall for easy viewing by all.
o A variety of food and beverages will be served.

Employee/Staff Entrance
o Employees are requested to use the Employee/Staff entrance once the hospital is open to the public.
o Make a right after entering through the secured turnstile.
o The staff entrance is located across from the med/surgery clinic (under construction) and past the
cafeteria.

o The Staff Entrance has secured turnstiles that require employees to scan their badges for entry.
o The Staff Entrance is not temperature controlled.

ElevatorsPatient/Visitor
o New Parkland Hospital will utilize the concept of On stage and Off stage.
o On stage represents the patient/ visitor facing areas and services.
o Off stage represents the employee centered activities and areas which serves the patient/visitor.
o The patient/visitor (on stage) elevators are the green, blue, and gold elevator banks.

ElevatorsEmployee/Staff
o Employee/Staff elevators are off stage and are located behind restricted access doors.
o A and E bank stations are designated Employee/Staff elevators.
o Staff elevators are destination elevators
o Employees select the floor they wish and are then instructed which elevator to use
o The elevator will take them directly to the floor they had chosen
o If the employee mistakenly gets on the wrong elevator, then they will have to get off and from
the elevator lobby select the correct floor

LIFE SAFETY
Fire Pulls
o Fire pulls are located throughout the building.
o If an employee is the first to encounter an active fire, then he/she should pull the fire pull to alert every
one of the danger.
o Once a fire pull is activated it will initiate the fire warning signals, which including pulsating lights and
sirens.
o Employees should safely head for the building exits.

Exit Signs
o Exit signs identify the way out of the building and are located throughout.
o New Parkland Hospital exit signs have green lightingnot red.

Stair Wells
o All stair wells are clearly marked for easy identification.
o Employees are directed to use the stairs during emergency evacuations or for shelter during severe
weather emergencies.

Fire Extinguishers
o Fire extinguishers are located throughout the facility.
o Access to some extinguishers requires the glass to be broken to access the extinguisher.
o All extinguishers are clearly marked and have a fire extinguisher sign located above for visibility.
o Some extinguishers are housed together with a water valve.
o Some extinguishers are housed behind a panel while others are housed behind a glass door.
o Fire extinguishers are ABC rated for all fire types.
o In an emergency, use PASS and RACE
o PASS= Pull, Aim, Squeeze, and Sweep
o RACE = Rescue, Alert, Confine, and Extinguish

Fire Walls
o New Parkland hospital has emergency fire walls hidden behind panels
o Upon a fire emergency, the panel will open automatically and the fire wall will expand and close off
sections of the hospital to contain the fire.
o The fire walls opens in manner similar to an automatic garage door-- if it meets resistance while
attempting to close it will stop.
o The fire wall also has an open button you can press that will open the wall to allow you to pass through.

Phone Operations
o NPH will use the Cisco 8945 standard desk phone.

Emergency Calls
o In NPH all employees are directed to call 911 for all emergency situations
o All 911 calls made within the building are sent to Parkland Police Dispatch
o Be ready to communicate location and floor number.

RESTRICTED AREAS
Employees should not venture into any areas of the hospital that are roped off or
barricaded to restrict access.
