Belden Expands the DataTuff® Category 5e And 6 Ethernet Cable Line With Additional 2- and 4-Pair Category 5e Cables
The reliability of your Industrial Ethernet network depends on the cable infrastructure:Data transmission errors can lead to interruptions in critical control functionsresulting in lost production time and evensafety issues. To help ensure optimum factoryfloor performance, Belden CDT ElectronicsDivision has consistently built both quality and reliability into each cable it manufactures. From the introduction and dominant call-outof Belden’s Blue Hose® cables, to our presentline of DataTuff Category 6 and 5e coppercables and TrayOptic® fiber optic IndustrialEthernet cables, Belden has always suppliedthe cable you need, when you need it.
And because we have been at the forefrontof the industrial marketplace for decades and understand the rigors of the industrialenvironment, we also have the unique abilityto provide top performing cables — regardlessof the work environment. So, even if yourcabling system is exposed to the followingconditions you can turn to Belden for theright solution:
> Oil, sunlight and gasoline
> Temperature variations
> Abrasion and crushing
> Presence of EMI/RFI (electromagnetic interference or radio frequency interference)
Only DataTuff Cables with Belden'sPatented Bonded-Pair Technology OfferThe Benefit of Installable Performance
Many versions of DataTuff cables featureBelden’s patented Bonded-Pair technology. This construction feature affixes the conductorinsulation of the cable pairs along their longitudinal axes to ensure that no performance-robbing gaps can developbetween the conductor pairs. Since no gapscan occur, and the conductor-to-conductorspacing, or centricity, is always uniform, the cable offers excellent and consistentlyreliable electrical performance — even after the cable has been subjected to the bending, pulling and twisting that is inherent in theinstallation process. Belden calls this uniqueafter-installation performance capabilityInstallable Performance.

Additionally, when the unbonded-pairsgap, an impedance mismatch occurs. When the transmitted signal encountersthis mismatch, portions of the signalare reflected back toward the receiver. This is called return loss, or RL. A cablewith poor RL values can significantlyimpact the performance of an activenetwork, reduce network efficiency and lead to excessive bit error rates.
In tests performed by Belden that simulate the effects of the installationprocess, both an industry-leading 350 MHz Cat 5e cable (an unbonded-pair cable) and a Belden 350 MHz Cat 5e Bonded-Pair cable were testedright off the reel and then for the sakeof comparison, they were subjected toan Installation Stress Test. This StressTest simulated just some of the stressesthat a cable experiences as it is installed(being bent around corners, creating aservice loop and being stuffed into anoutlet box). The results? The unbonded-pair cable showed an RL degradation ofmore than 12 dB — more than 15 timesworse its before-installation value. TheBonded-Pair cables showed little changein RL performance. (For more detailedinformation, request the Technical BulletinTB-66 “The Impact of Installation Stresseson Cable Performance.”)
TrayOptic® Cables Feature Laser Certified Fiber (LCFÍ) and Water-Blocking Capability
When the installation demands thecombination of sophisticated fiber optictechnology and rugged durability, lookto Belden’s line of TrayOptic indoor/outdoor fiber optic cables — nowupgraded to include a water-blockingagent. All TrayOptic products also utilizeLaser Certified Fiber to handle GigabitEthernet light sources and any expandedbandwidth requirements. For informationon Belden’s full line of BelOptix® fiberoptic cables, including TrayOptic cables, contact Belden CDT Electronics Divisionat 1-800-BELDEN-4 or visitwww.belden.com.
Quality You Can Trust
All Belden products are manufacturedto the industry’s highest standards ofquality, utilizing the most advancedequipment, systems, controls andprocesses. In fact, Belden has long been a pioneer in production processes, such as statistical process control (SPC), that have become industry standards. And Belden was the firstmajor designer and manufacturer ofcable products to achieve ISO 9000registration for the majority of itsdomestic and overseas facilities.
Belden Quality Means Uptime andSuperior Safety Performance
Today's critical industrial networkingapplications can't afford data transmission errors that can causedowntime, delays, and even safety concerns. Belden quality gives you the performance and reliability youneed on a day-by-day basis.

Data Pairs
Installed and manipulated unbonded-pairs(left) have a tendency to gap, varying thecentricity of the two conductors. Bonded-Pairs (right) do not gap so the physicalintegrity of the pair is maintained.
In an Installation Stress Test that simulates the installation process, the Cat 5e unbonded-paircables (left) showed an RL degradation of more than 12 dB. The Bonded-Pair cables (right)exhibited little change in RL performance.

Product Description
The TrayOptic series cables are designed for indoor/outdoorindustrial applications. All TrayOptic cables have been upgradedwith a water-blocking agent. The TrayOptic series carry the IEEE383 flame approval. All TrayOptic series products utilize the LCF™
(Laser Certified Fiber) to handle tomorrow’s Gigabit Ethernet lightsources and expanded bandwidth requirements. TrayOptic cablesare also available with 50 micron or single-mode fiber upon request.
