  • NOVENA IN PRAISE OF THE HOLY SPIRIT

    Friday, May 22, 2020 through Saturday, May 30, 2020 Evenings at 5 PM

    Novena in Praise of the Holy Spirit “When our eyes are illuminated by the Spirit, they open to contemplate God in the beauty of nature and in the grandeur of the cosmos, and they lead us to discover how everything speaks to us about him and his love.” –POPE FRANCIS, Walking with Jesus Day One: We Are Children and Heirs of God

    Pray Lord, our God, through the light of your Holy Spirit you instruct the hearts of the faithful, your sons and daughters. Grant that we may always be docile to the Spirit working in our lives, that we may know and appreciate what is right and good and so find happiness in your presence. Help us to recognize the Spirit’s invitation to service and respond with joy and eagerness. We ask this through your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord, in unity of the Holy Spirit, one God forever and ever. Amen. Read and Ponder ROMANS 8: 14-17 For all those who are led by the Spirit of God are sons and daughters of God. You did not receive a spirit of slavery which caused you to be afraid; you received a spirit of adoption, by which we cry, “Abba, Father!” The Spirit itself bears witness with our spirit that we are God’s children. And if we are children, then we are also heirs—heirs of God, co-heirs with Christ, if we suffer with him so as to be glorified with him as well.

    Remember TITUS 3: 5-7

    He saved us through the bath of rebirth and renewal in the Holy Spirit. . . so that we might be restored to fellowship with God by his grace and become heirs in hope of eternal life. Pray Lord our God, may the Holy Spirit transform our hearts and increase in us the fruits of charity, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, generosity, gentleness, faithfulness, modesty, self-control, and chastity. May we reach out to others, doing all we can to build up your kingdom here on earth. We ask this through your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God forever and ever. Amen.

    Glory be to the Father, and to the Son,

    and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be,

    world without end. Amen.

    Day Two: Jesus Does Not Leave Us Orphans Pray Lord, our God, through the light of your Holy Spirit you instruct the hearts of the faithful, your sons and daughters. Grant that we may always be docile to the Spirit working in our lives, that we may know and appreciate what is right and good and so find happiness in your presence. Amen. Read and Ponder JOHN 14: 18-20 I will not leave you orphaned— I will come to you. In a little while the world will no longer see me, but you will see me; because I will live, you, too, will live. On that day you will realize that I am in my Father, and you in me and I in you.

    [Rest in the Word] Remember TITUS 3: 5-7 He saved us through the bath of rebirth and renewal in the Holy Spirit. . . so that we might be restored to fellowship with God by his grace and become heirs in hope of eternal life.

You were bought for a price, so glorify God in your bodies!

    Novena in Praise of the Holy Spirit “When our eyes are illuminated by the Spirit, they open to contemplate God in the beauty of nature and in the grandeur of the cosmos, and they lead us to discover how everything speaks to us about him and his love.” –POPE FRANCIS, Walking with Jesus Day Five: The Spirit Teaches Us to Pray Pray Lord, our God, through the light of your Holy Spirit you instruct the hearts of the faithful, your sons and daughters. Amen. Read and Ponder PSALM 143: 8-10 Show me the way I should go, for to you I lift up my soul. Rescue me from my enemies, O Lord, for I hide myself in you. Teach me to do your will, for you are my God; may your good Spirit lead me on level ground.

    ROMANS 8: 26-27

    Likewise the Spirit also helps us in our weakness, for we do not know how to pray as we should; instead, the Spirit himself pleads for us with inexpressible groanings, and the One who is able to see what is in the heart knows what the Spirit wishes, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints in accordance with God’s will.

    Novena in Praise of the Holy Spirit “When our eyes are illuminated by the Spirit, they open to contemplate God in the beauty of nature and in the grandeur of the cosmos, and they lead us to discover how everything speaks to us about him and his love.” –POPE FRANCIS, Walking with Jesus Day Six: We Are Gifts Each of Us for the Good of Others

    Pray Lord, our God, through the light of your Holy Spirit you instruct the hearts of the faithful, your sons and daughters. Grant that we may always be docile to the Spirit working in our lives, that we may know and appreciate what is right and good and so find happiness in your presence. Amen. Read and Ponder 1 CORINTHIANS 12: 7-11 Some manifestation of the Spirit is given to each for the common good. To one it may be given to speak wisdom through the Spirit, to another it is given to speak deep knowledge according to the same Spirit. To still another faith may be given through the same Spirit, while to another the one Spirit will give healing gifts. To one may be given the ability to perform miracles, to another a gift of prophecy, to one the gift of distinguishing spirits, to another various tongues, to still another the interpretation of tongues. One and the same Spirit causes all this, distributing individually to each he wishes.

But if Christ is in you, even though your body is dead because of sin, then your spirit is alive because of righteousness. And if the Spirit of God who raised Christ from the dead dwells in you, then the One who raised Christ from the dead will give life to your dead bodies through his Spirit that dwells within you.

    Sanctifying the Day: Morning (p. 12)

    Holy Spirit, at creation's first dawn

    you came forth to give form and life to all;

    hear me at the beginning of this new day.

    Shape my life today in the image of Christ;

    let nothing unpleasant be found in me.

    Illumine my life's horizon with your light;

    dispel all darkness from my mind and soul;

    light the fire of love in my heart;

    And be the light I radiate today,

    And every day of my life.

    For Wisdom (p. 43)

    Holy Spirit,

    Who with the Father and the Son, in the beginning hovered over

    the deep and formless void to give it shape,

    and breathed the breath of life into humanity, and every living creature:

    come now from heaven,

    from your throne of glory, come.

    Be with me and help me; work with me

    and teach me what is pleasing to you.

    You, who know all things, guide me

    to be prudent in all my undertakings;

    and protect me by your glory.

    Only then will everything I do

    be acceptable in your sight.
