    On October 12th, Feed The Children part-nered with the San Diego Armed ServicesYMCA again to help supplement militaryfood budgets. During the Americans Feed-ing Americans event, 800 familieswere served with a large box of food andtwo boxes of personal hygiene items. We

    reached an office record, serving these 800families in just 3 hours! Many thanks to thestrong group of military volunteers who hadthe assembly line system down and werevery friendly and efficient.

    The San Diego Armed Services YMCANeighborhood Exchange was bursting

    with Halloween spirit this October.

    Serving 9,000 active-dutyjunior enlisted mil itary service

    members and their families

    each month!

    Active Duty VolunteersMilitary volunteers attended the Halloween Haunted House atPWI (Partnerships with Industry), an organization that assistsadults with disabilities in finding employment. Volunteershelped with the set up and break down of the haunted house,food serving, and interaction with PWI clients. The Military

    Volunteer Program will also be volunteering at upcoming holi-day events with PWI- the Thanksgiving Harvest Potluck (foodincluded!) in November and the Holiday Ball in December.

    Wounded, Injured and Ill Programs at Naval Medical Center

    For the 6th year in a row, the American Legion Riders from Arizona rode in honorof Operation Wounded Warrior, bringing gifts and warm smiles to our recoveringservice members in October. We also partnered with several organizations to of-fer the patients many opportunities: Holes for Heroes Golf tournament, PorscheClub of America Tour, Seau Foundation Teammates Luncheon, and one of theirfavorites pumpkin carving with USCD sorority Pi Beta Phi!

    YCO Open House

    PLUS Foundation BBQ

    The Youth and Community Outreach FallOpen House was a big hit with military fami-lies this October. At ASYMCA Open Housesfamilies can learn about and sign up forweekly YCO programs.

    YCO now has over 55 families registered forthe craft and conversation program and over65 children interested in the Kids Club pro-gram! WOW! During the Craft and Conversa-tion Program, military spouses are givenmuch needed me time through the craftsand cooking demos while their children gain

    youth enrichment through peer socializationand educational play during Kids Club.

    The San Diego Foundation is recognizingand supporting the positive work of local

    nonprofits this December! Beginning De-cember 14th, the San Diego Foundation willbe hosting the first-ever giveBIG SanDiego match day initiative. During a 36-hour period, the San Diego community willhave an opportunity to make online dona-tions to nonprofits in San Diego (including

    the San Diego Armed Services YMCA!), and the San Diego Founda-tion will match organization donation totals in a pro-ratedamount. For more details, please visit www.bettergivingsd.org andbe sure to mark December 14th on your calendar!

    Hundreds of service members and their families enjoyed a delicious,free Phils BBQ lunch on November 1st compliments of the PLUSFoundation. Volunteers from all over the U.S. took part in this pic-nic which featured music, kids games and activities, and plenty ofPhils BBQ. Thank you PLUS Foundation and Volunteers!
