"Best of the Best" Construction Projects Honored at Build San DiegoAwards LuncheonBy Eddie Sprecco, Chief Executive Officer
Every two years, AGC recognizes the contractors that build outstanding buildings and supportinginfrastructure that help make San Diego County such a thriving region. Last Thursday, AGChonored the "best of the best" at AGC's 2017 Build San Diego Awards luncheon at the HiltonSan Diego Bayfront. Over 350 guests enjoyed the afternoon's festivities, including a number ofelected officials, government and educational leaders, owners, developers, architects, andengineers.
The luncheon was sponsored by Hawthorne Cat, and Torrey Pines Bank. The Master ofCeremonies was AGC Past President Jon Cloud of J. Cloud, Inc., and the guest speaker wasCounty Supervisor Kristin Gaspar. Her comments about the importance of investing in theregion's infrastructure set the stage for an outstanding awards program.
The Build San Diego Award entries were evaluated in terms of excellence in projectmanagement, innovation in construction techniques or materials, excellence in client service, contractor's contribution to the community as it relates to the project, and meeting the challengesof a difficult job. The entries were reviewed, and the finalists and award winners were selectedby a panel of four judges:
Troy Bankston - Former City of Poway Public Works Director Steve Bovee - Consultant Tony Fulton - Former University Architect at San Diego State UniversityCliff Maurer - Director of Public Services & Engineering, City of Coronado
During the program, eight "best of the best" projects were presented with a Build San DiegoAward:

Announcing AGC San Diego Chapter's 90th Annual MeetingRae Krushensky, Director of Meetings & Events, Membership Services
AGC San Diego's 90th Annual Meeting will be held on Thursday, December 14th, from 11:30a.m. - 1:30 p.m. at the Hilton San Diego on Mission Bay.
Although the Annual Meeting is open to all members, the AGC San Diego Bylaws allow for only"Active" members to have voting privileges for the election of members to the AGC Board ofDirectors. "Active" members are defined in the Bylaws as General Contractors (Building andEngineering) and Contractor members. Contractor members are Subcontractors that participatein one of AGC's major programs (health, apprenticeship, pension, etc.), and pay local dues thatare equal to the dues paid by the General Contractors
While Specialty and Affiliate members will not be able to vote, the Board is convinced thatsharing the valuable information about the association with the entire membership is important.
In addition to the election of members to the Board of Directors, AGC San Diego CEO, EddieSprecco, will present the AGC's Annual Report, detailing the activities and finances of the AGCduring the past year. This will include acknowledging the members who chair the many AGCcommittees.
We encourage all AGC firms to take a couple of hours out of your schedule on December 14th toattend this final meeting of the year.
