RomanianandCanadiandefenceministriesrepresentatives, theCanadianflagwashauleddownandtheRomanianonehoisted,whiletwoIAR-330PumaL-RMHelicoptersexecutedaverticaldescendmaneuver.

Thealmost120servicemenofthedetachment(pilots,technicalandmedicalpersonnel)willconduct,attheUnitedNationsOrganizations,medicalevacuation–MEDEVACandsearchandrescue–CASEVACmissions, troop and materiel airlift, passenger transportation missions, air patrol and UN monitoringmissions

Theinitialoperationalcapabilityof“CarpathianPumas”Detachmentwhich isonmission, inMali,wasdeclaredonMonday,October21st.Thus,theRomanianservicemencanconductMEDEVAC/CASEVACmissionsattherequestoftheUNrepresentatives,withahelicopterequippedwithmedicaldevicesandasecondhelicopterasescort,basedontheemergingoperationalrequirements.

Accordingtotherequirementsneededtobemetinordertodeclareinitialoperationalcapability,thepilotsexecutedreconnaissanceandfamiliarizationflightsintheareaofoperationsbothduringthedayandatnightandMEDEVACexercises,withtheirGermanpartners.

TheRomaniansoldierswillcontinuetheirtrainingwithaviewofhavingtheirfinaloperationalcapabilitydeclaredbythebeginningofNovemberandassumingtheothertypesofmissions,inaccordancewiththemandateof theUnitedNationsMultidimensional IntegratedStabilizationMission inMali (MINUSMA)suchastroops,materielandequipmentairlift,extractionandairpatrol.

Frigate“KingFerdinand”–togetherwithaPumaNavalHelicopterandaNavalSpecialOperationsForcesSquadonboard–leftConstanțaMilitaryHarborfortheMediterraneanonFriday,18October,inordertoparticipateinNATOOperation“SeaGuardian19”(OSG)between18October-7November,aswellasinMultinationalExercise“DoguAkdeniz”organizedbyTurkey,over9-20November.

ThemaingoalofOperation“SeaGuardian” fromtheMediterranean is thedeterrenceof the illegalactivities conducted on the Southern Flank ofNATO and EU bymonitoring themaritime traffic.TheoperationisconductedbytheNATOMaritimeCommand(MARCOM).

By participating in theNATO-ledmissions, exercises and operations, the RomanianNaval ForcescontributetotheAllianceeffortforensuringthecollectivesecuritymeasuresanddemonstratethatRomanianisapartnerwhichmeetsitscommitments.

Throughout the mission, Frigate “King Ferdinand” will make stop-overs in Aksaz (Turkey),Alexandria(Egypt),Haifa(Israel)andLimassol(Cyprus)Harbors.Navaldiplomacyactivities,visitsand

Asafirst, theRomanianNavalForces,with the supportof theMinistryofForeignAffairsand theMinistryoftheRomaniansWorldwide,invitedmembersoftheRomanianlocalcommunitiesfromEgypt,Israel andCyprus to visit “KingFerdinand”Frigate.Part of the cultural activity conductedbyMangaliaMilitaryClubwaspresentedonboardofthefrigatebyexhibitingcertainpaintingsofNiculaeGăgeanuandAlexandruGhinea painters-members of theUnion of the PlasticArtists fromRomania-depicting navalsubjects, aswell as thenovels “PoveștileMăriiNegre”,written byCristianCealera and “Lotus stelar” byEmiliaDabu.Thechildrenreceivedsymbolicgiftsmadebythemilitarystudentsof theRomanianNavalForcesinstitutions.

TheshipisheadedbyCaptainMarianIoanwithacrewconsistingin240soldiers(outofwhich9arewomen)withanaverageageof30.

Annual Reunion ofSouth Eastern Europe DefenceMinisterial (SEDM Ministerial)took place on October 16, atBNRPalace,Bucharest.

The Reunion was chairedby the Chairman of theCoordination Committee ofthe SEDM, Albanian DeputyDefence Minister, Petro Koçi,and attended by representativesof defence ministries fromSEDMmemberstates:RomanianState Secretary Doru ClaudianFrunzulică,DefenceMinister of the Republic ofMoldova, PavelVoicu, aswell as theNATOAssistantSecretaryGeneralforPublicDiplomacy,AmbassadorTacanIldem,andDirectoroftheCenterforSecurityCooperation(RACVIAC),JeronimBazo.

TheactivitywasagoodopportunitytorestateRomania’scommitmentfortheon-goingprojectsrunwithintheinitiativeaswellastosupportcertainproposalstoconsolidateSEDMasthemaincooperationformatinSouth-EasternEurope,inthecontextoftheevolutionofthesecuritysituationintheregion.

Onthisoccasion,theChairmanoftheSEDMCoordinationCommittee,PetroKoçi,andStateSecretaryDoruClaudianFrunzulicămadepressstatementsonWednesday,October16,at13.30.

SEDMisaregionalinitiativethatcontributestomaintainingpeaceandstrengtheninggoodneighborhoodrelationsandclosecooperationamongtheSouth-EastEuropeanstates,byprovidingaplatformforpolitical-militarydialogueandinvolvinginprojectswithpracticalapplicabilityinthefieldofsecurityandregionalstability. 

TheSEDMprocessincludesAlbania,BosniaandHerzegovina,Bulgaria,Croatia,Georgia,Greece,Italy,NorthMacedonia,Montenegro,Romania,Serbia,Slovenia,UnitedStatesofAmerica,TurkeyandUkraine,andtheRepublicofMoldovaasobserver.

Between2019and2021,AlbaniawillchairtheCoordinationCommitteeoftheSEDM,aswellasthePoliticalMilitarySteeringCommitteeoftheMultinationalPeacekeepingBrigadeofSouth-EasternEurope.

Defence Minister GabrielLeș had an officialmeetingwithhis counterpart from NorthMacedonia,RadmilaŠekerinska-Jankovska,onTuesday,October8.

During the talks, theofficials approached topicsreferring to bilateral andregional cooperation, as wellas the cooperation within EUand North-Atlantic Alliance,since the Republic of NorthMacedoniawillbecome the30thNATOmemberstate.
