NOVEMBER 2019 NEWSLETTER

President’s Message Years ago my message here was to negate violence and negativity in our Country with beautiful artwork … things have not changed! Let’s hope our new Government can lead us into a peaceful world. We must still endeavour to quash the violence on TV, on the Internet, and in today’s world everywhere. What better way than to paint beautiful things! …with friends! Rather let’s reflect on our great Fall Show and Sale, the cooperation that the members showed, and the time volunteered. What a wonderful Committee, led by Dianna Sapara. Sales were $4640, with $910 in the Loft! Great job, everyone!. The social interaction was wonderful to see, and the show, when added to the ASSC lists of events, enhances our chances for the next AFA grant!!

Next up is our colorful Christmas MarketPlace, Nov 16 and 17, and it is hoped that all members will stop by for an apple cider and enjoy the many items that our members have presented for unique gifts for the holiday season. Everyone is reminded to update their volunteer hour sheets prior to year end to enhance our chances for the next AFA grant. Thank you to all the members who responded to the ASSC Survey! We must continue to find a way to educate the population about original artwork and its beauty. Is it the nature and age of the patron? The type of art? The economy? There are many large new homes in the County without artwork. One of the shift workers in the Loft Gallery reported having had a lady and her 9 year old son come into view the artwork. The son bought a card. When the shift worker questioned who the card was for, the son said “No, it’s mine. I collect original art!!” So there’s a start!! Regards, Sonja

Thank you to the following – you are appreciated!

Elaine for all the work and dedication to making the workshops in the past the pride of the ASSC:

Dianna Sapara, for her inspiration of Art We All Canadian, and to her and Committee for a job well done with the Fall Show! Doreen and Antoinette for opening Drop in Days on Wednesdays!

REPORT FROM THE MISERICORIDA HOSPITAL and Sue Scott:

Yes we’ll keep promoting our art. I’m in the halls often weekly due to my appointments in the hospital and I get to hear the appreciative comments made by the many patients, visitors, and staff who are going down the halls. It’s great publicity for our artists and club. Just last week my doctor asked me about the ASSC. He had seen the art in the hall on his way to the Cabrini Center. I’ve seen him a number of times exploring art pieces with his colleagues. What great advertising even without any sales possibly involved. Yours Sue Scott ____________________

It’s amazing how quickly this year has gone by! Our final show of 2019 will be hung on November 1 and we are looking forward to some new members showing and volunteering! Our Feature Artist will be Melissa Baron. The Christmas Marketplace falls during this rotation and we anticipate large crowds. As usual we will host some vendors from the Christmas Marketplace for the latter part of November and until the Gallery closes December 22. With Christmas in mind, this is a “Cash and Carry” show so paintings that are sold can be taken immediately. We still need some shifts filled so please consider volunteering. On December 22, the Loft Gallery and the Gift Gallery will be completely cleared out in preparation for the intake of new Gift Gallery items in January. Members who are interested in putting items in the Gift Gallery for January – June are asked to submit their inventory by Sunday, January 27 to [email protected]. The intake day will be January 30 at 2:00. Artists with items in the Gift Gallery will be required to work a shift in February and one shift for every two months following that. The first show of the year (February 1 – 23) will be a group show featuring the artists from a senior’s class that Joyce Boyer teaches. The bi-monthly shows for 2020 will follow the same format as in the past- email ([email protected]) your intent to show by the first of the month preceding the show and your inventory list by the 15th of the month preceding the show. Please follow us on Facebook and Instagram and share the Loft Gallery posts….we are working hard to make sales for you!

VOLUNTEER HOURS: Please continue to record your volunteer hours in the book located in the drawer to the left of the kitchen sink (or at home and insert them into the binder before you enter a show and at year end) These hours will enable you to show your artwork and they are also part of the application for the ASSC’s annual AFA grant.

Please stop at the Welcome Table on your way into meetings and sign in for the evening. This is important for the ASSC meeting attendance record and it may become important to you too if you are planning on showing your artwork at ASSC shows.

“LIKE” the ASSC on Facebook and please pass the message around!!!

The ASSC has a new friend! This teddy bear has been donated by a resident on behalf of her mother who has passed away. She wished to have him in a place where he would be appreciated. He is No. 447 out of a limited 1000! He presently resides in his new home ...The Loft Gallery. Say “hi” next time you come in!
