10Elisha sent a messenger to him, saying, “Go, wash in the Jordan seven times, and your flesh shall be restored, and you shall be clean.” – 2 Kings 5:10

Our study of the Holy Land could not be complete without a stop at the Jor-dan River. These waters are so central to the preaching and teaching of John the Baptist, and they mark the beginning of Jesus’ public ministry. They are the waters where so many begin their journey of faith, and, for that reason, this river holds a special place in our faith story.

The river, as a body of water, is little more than a muddy stream. It is not impressive by geological standards. It is not clean, clear, refreshing water that invites people to swim. It is not the river’s value that draws us to it. When Elisha sent this message to Naaman, a general in the Syrian army, Naaman was offended at being told to go dip in the dirty waters of the Jor-dan.

Like us, the river gains its treasure from how it is used by God.

We came to the river early in the morning, knowing the day would be un-bearable in the scorching heat. It was well over 95 degrees at 8:00 am when we arrived. There, on those banks, we read the story of Jesus’ bap-tism in the waters of the Jordan. We heard the words of Matthew describing God’s voice, “This is my Son, my Beloved, with whom I am well pleased.”

We remembered our own baptisms in these muddy waters. We remembered that we, too, gain our treasure from how we are used by God. We are a muddy little stream, washed clean by God’s grace, transformed into water that can change people’s lives forever. God can and will use us to change the world, one person at a time. May we forever be listening to the still small voice that urges us to go.

To God be the Glory,

Rev. Shari Schwedhelm

“O give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; for his steadfast love endures forever.” Psalm 107:1

November always brings to mind the abundant blessings we have enjoyed during the year. This year, like others, I could make a long list of things for which I am truly grateful. Salem and St. Timothy are certainly at the top of that list. This year has seen my lifelong calling of serving in ordained ministry become a reality, and that would not have been possible without you. This year has been filled with absolutely once-in-a-lifetime experiences that you have made possible. So, today, I thank God for you and for our journey together.

Our journey is not an easy one. God called us to do difficult things together. I was called here to serve as your leader at a time when both Salem and St. Timothy were making some of the most heartbreaking decisions in their history regarding their called leadership. I am, in some ways, the physical embodiment of your loss of full-time pas-tors. We have done some amazingly difficult things together.

More than that, we have done some incredibly beautiful things together. As I reflect back on this year, my heart overflows at the hugs and smiles, the baptisms and the weddings, and even at the holy moments shared during funerals. God is at work here. God is at work in our community. God is at work through each and every one of you, and I could not be more thankful that I am right here to be walking alongside you on this journey.

Thank you for calling me. Thank you for trusting me. Thank you for being part of God’s story in Fremont, Nebraska.

To God be the Glory!

Rev. Shari L. Schwedhelm

We are kicking off November 1st with a pajama day! After a night of trick or treating it will be nice to relax the day after.

Daylight Savings Time ends on the 3rd! Fall back in time and turn those clocks back one hour! You’ll lose an hour of sleep but a good nap can always fix that.

Miss Kay will be out again from November to January to have her second knee re-placement. She was missed greatly her first go around and I can’t imagine it will be any different this time. Heal quick Miss Kay!

This month will be Parent-Teacher conferences for all the children that are enrolled in Preschool and Pre-Kindergarten. Parents will have a chance to talk with Miss Michelle to see the growth their child has made since they started, as well as what they have in store for the rest of the school year.

The holiday season is starting, so please make sure you check for days the center will be closed. This month the center will be closed Thanksgiving and the following Friday. We hope everyone spends some loving time with their families.

Another holiday favorite for us is our Christmas Program! This year’s program will be on December 5th at 7:00pm. Duckies through the Bears are all welcome to join us for the Program. The Sharks will have their own programs at school. More details to come!

Stewardship Series 2019 - Loving Generously

Sunday, October 13th, we will begin our fall Stewardship program entitled Loving Gener-ously. This is the second part of the series we started last fall and carries on the story of the Donovan family as they learn what it means to love generously. Each week we will see a glimpse of their journey as they take risks, experience suffering and joy, and find them-selves transformed by the call to love others as Christ loves us. You won't want to miss a single Sunday!

Life is busy, and it is easy for our hearts to be distracted by the demands we face so that we can be blind to those that cross our paths. May this series prompt us to take an invento-ry of the relationships God has entrusted to each of us. As we do, I hope we will be inspired by a new awareness of the goodness of God.

Each week, we will also hear stories of faithful relationships from some of our members, and we look forward to growing closer to our family of faith through these messages as well.

At the end of the series, we will allow you to share how you have been impacted. What an opportunity for our church family to celebrate God's generosity! Will you join me in praying that God will prepare our hearts to hear His message of relational generosity? And will you commit to coming each week?

Sunday, October 13th - Banquet: Tearing up the Place Cards that Separate Us- - Scripture: 2 Kings 5:1-3, 7-15c, 2 Timothy 2:8-15, Luke 14:1, 7-14 - Jesus tore down the barriers that separated people. Who are you inviting into your life?

Sunday, October 27th - Kind: Loving those who are Different from Me - Scripture: Proverbs 19:17, Romans 3:19-28, Luke 18:9 – 14; -We are called to a love that crosses barriers: social, economic, cultural, and ethnic. (The Freedom of a Christian!)

Sunday, November 3rd - Called: Sharing Christ’s Suffering and the Suffering of Others - Scripture: Isaiah 1:10-18, 2 Thessalonians 1:1-4, 11-12, John 15:12-20 - Loving like Jesus can lead to persecution.

• Sunday, November 10th - One to Another: Being United with Christ to show His Love - Scripture: Job 19:23-27a, 2 Thessalonians 2:1-5, 13-17, Luke 6:27-36 - Giving yourself to loving everyone God puts in your path.
