Friday, November 10: School Closure Day
Monday, November 13: Statutory Holiday for Remembrance Day
Friday, November 24: Pro-D Day
Terry Fox Run
On Friday September 29th, Cameron School participated in the annual Terry Fox
Run. With the support and supervision of many parents, our school learned
about Terry Fox and The Marathon Of Hope in an assembly then walked or ran
through our neighbourhood. The Terry Fox Foundation funds cancer research.
Cameron school proudly supported this cause by raising $2500. Thank you.
Cross Country
Congratulations to the Cameron Cubs Cross Country team on completing their final race on October 10th. All team
members participated in practices and weekly meets. The practices were early in the morning, but they all came with
smiles and energy! Congrats to the team for putting in their best effort when running with teams from around the Dis-
trict.
An honourable mention goes to Alexa Castano, as she showed excellent sportsmanship during our co-ed race. Alexa
chose to forego the race and stay running with a student who fell behind. Alexa recognized that the student was trying
their best regardless of their disability and joined the runner, finishing in last place. She will be receiving an award
from the District for her sportsmanship. Everyone at Cameron is very proud of you Alexa!
Cameron Youth Credit Union—is open every Tuesday at 12:05pm in the Intermediate Hallway.
Any student who opens a new account at Cameron School will receive $10.00 as an incentive to
start their savings in addition the school receives a grant to help with purchasing much needed
equipment in the school.

Buddy Bench
As part of the intermediate’s community time, a group of students de-
cided to design and paint a ’Buddy Bench’. This project is now com-
plete. The purpose is to encourage new friendships. We welcome
everyone to sit for a while and perhaps meet a new friend.
Music Notes
On Thursday, October 19, 2017 Dr. Susan Brumfield from Texas Tech University came for a
special visit to our Cameron Elementary music program. She worked with Ms. Lowery’s Grade
1 class, Ms. Southern’s Grade 4/5 class, as well as our Intermediate Cameron Cubs Choir.
Dr. Brumfield is an expert in music education, folk music, and is a composer and an author.
She shared songs and games with us as well as heard us sing. She was impressed with our
respectful behaviour, our beautiful singing, and our love of music. We also had 7 guest teachers observe our learn-
ing with Dr. Brumfield. We should all feel proud of the quality music education we share at Cameron Elementary.
Keep singing everyone!
Dark and Rainy Days
Placing a reflective strip on your child’s clothing helps drivers see them during our
dark winter days. It is very important that students and parents use the raised
crosswalk on Bartlett Court.

Recycling at Cameron
As young citizens of our world, students are learning how to protect and preserve the earth. We are learning to
REDUCE, REUSE AND RECYCLE
Things you can do to help include:
Encourage buying in bulk to reduce the amount of packaging that goes into the
landfill.
Reuse container. Use a reusable water bottle or coffee cup.
Recycle by emptying and cleaning all plastic, glass, metal and paper and putting
them into the proper receptacle.
At Cameron Mr. D’Agnolo’s class and Mrs. Venos’ class collect and sort all the recycling for the school.
This job involves emptying and sorting and can often be messy and stinky.
THANK YOU FOR HELPING KEEP OUR WORLD GREEN FOR OUR FUTURE.
YOU ARE MAKING A DIFFERENCE!
AquaVan 150
On Thursday October 26th, all students were treated to a visit from the AquaVan. This opportunity was
provided free to the school as part of the Canada 150 Celebration Fund.
We started the day with a lively and interactive assembly by the AquaVan staff and then students were
given the opportunity for small group activities that included some up close investigation of live sea
creatures.
All-in-all it was a great opportunity for our students.

West Coast Recess
As we are heading into the cold winter months, the typical
West Coast weather in Burnaby is usually rain, rain and more
rain and sometimes it could be cold and chilly. Playing out-
doors in the winter is enjoyable when children are dressed
properly. In the winter, the best is to stay warm and
dry. Please ensure that your child is dressed appropriately,
has the proper outdoor footwear (rubber boots) and proper
outer wear (waterproof jackets, gloves, toques). Please provide an extra change of
clothes at school (inside shoes, socks, pants, shirt, under garments) just in case your
child gets wet.
Remembrance Day Assembly
On Thursday, November 9th students and staff will take time to remember
those who have given their lives in war for our country and to reflect on how
grateful we are to have peace in our country. Parents and family members
are invited to attend our Remembrance Day Assembly. The ceremony will
include presentations by many. Please join us at 11 am in the gym.
Absences and Lates
Please phone our school at 604-296-9005 and leave a message on the school’s voice mail whenever your child is absent from school or will be arriving late. Please speak slowly and clearly. If you prefer, you may email the school secretary at [email protected]. If we do not hear from you and your child is absent we will attempt to phone you. Any student who arrives late must first come to the school office to sign in and then proceed to their classroom. We expect students to arrive on time. Arriving on time helps children begin their day smoothly. Not only is promptness an ex-cellent lifelong habit but it is also less distracting for other students.
Lost & Found Items
We have many items of clothing including jackets, pants, shoes, hoodies, etc,
in our lost and found bin. We have other items as well, such as water bottles
and umbrellas. Our bin is located in the hallway by the main entrance. It is
overflowing with items! Please take a moment to look through the bin—you
might be surprised to find your child’s items in the bin.
