Pilgrimage to Peru

6-16NOVEMBER

2016

Ayni Foundation are delighted to present the 2016 itinerary. The Pilgrimage to Peru has been designed to expose you to the shamanic teachings of several authentic Peruvian lineages, including at least 3 ceremonies with medicine plants.

This is not a tourist trip. It is a pilgrimage to some very sacred parts of the planet. You will be carried by the grandeur of the land and the love of the people, being exceptionally well cared for on all levels, from logistics to the spiritual. Through ceremony and shamanic work, you will approach the Great Plant Teachers and Apus, mountain spirits, whose magic affords the possibility of a life-changing experience.

While every effort has been made to assure your safety and comfort, please bear in mind Peru is an underdeveloped country and plans may sometimes change to accommodate circumstances. If they do, it is only to allow something even more magical to take place.Whatever happens, rest assured our journey to Peru will involve teachings from many Peruvian traditions, and include (optionally) at least 3 ceremonies with medicine plants.

Puma Quispe is our shamanic ‘master of ceremonies’. Taught traditional shamanic practice by his grandfather and other masters since childhood, he speaks Quechua, Spanish and English–all three with delicious humour. Everyone who meets him remembers his wise and joyful spirit.

All the masters we work with demonstrate the generosity that comes from genuine inspiration. It is a great pleasure for them to share the depth, humour and wisdom of their paths and traditions.

Carl Hyatt and Davina Mackail have worked with the Q’ero since 2002. Both trace their shamanic lineage back to Puma and his family. Nizami has worked with the indigenous people of Peru since 2007 and accompanied the 2014 and 2015 pilgrimages.

We very much look forward to sharing this awesome, magical journey with you. It really is the journey of a lifetime!

Having flown over the majestic Andes by Sunday afternoon we gather in Cuzco. We promptly head (down altitude) to the Sacred Valley, visiting the Condor Sanctuary en route. Here we have a chance to relax and acclimatise. In the evening our shaman and guide, Puma Quispe, will introduce the journey ahead,

and the medicine traditions he began to learn as a child, taught by his grandfather. We will gather together for our Welcome Dinner of traditional Peruvian cuisine and entertainment. (Overnight in Pisaq at Hotel Royal Inca)

We drive into the hills to the picturesque town of Pisaq to admire the colonial architecture and the awe-inspiring scenic beauty and stop at the ancient solar observatory, which we will enter through the ancient Temple of the Condor, for a private ceremony.

Later, we make our way to the village of Pisac and enjoy time exploring the Andean Marketplace to purchase lovely handcrafted treasures to take home. (Overnight in Pisaq at Hotel Royal Inca)

We make our way through the Sacred Valley of the Incas to Chinchero for a day of teachings about the preparation of the sacred master plant Huachuma, the San Pedro cactus.

We will work deeply with this plant in order to connect profoundly with the ancestral spirits and and receive the the healing and heart opening of the medicine. (Overnight in Chinchero)

Sunday / Day 1 / Arrive in Cusco, Welcome dinner

Monday / Day 2 / Pisaq

Tuesday / Day 3 / Chinchero, Medicine preparation

ItineraryItinerary

Today we have an amazing opportunity to work with a very wise and gifted medicine woman, ¨Mama Irene¨. From her we will learn more about ancestral medicine, coca leaf divination, healing and our connection with the Apus. (Overnight in Chinchero)

Wednesday / Day 4 / Mama Irene

Thursday / Day 5/ Maul'allacta

We drive for 4 hours to a special huaca called Tamputocco, or Puma Orqo, which was for the Inca a very sacred place. According to the creation myths of the Inca, the four Ayar brothers and their wives emerged from four caves underneath this rock. One, Ayar Manco, known afterwards as Manco Capac, was the mythical founder of the Inca kingdom.

We enjoy a stunning 45 min walk to Mauk´allacta, on the opposite side of the valley.

With over 200 masonry structures, Mauk´allacta is closely associated with Puma Orqo. Both hosted the sumptuous Paccariqtambo annual ceremonies.

In our visits to this magnificent site we have often been the only visitors. The energies, beauty and privacy combine to make a uniquely memorable day in the Inca world. We will have a special ceremony and despacho at the Temple of the Nine Suns in Mauk’a llacta. (Overnight in Cusco at Illa Hotel)

Today we begin our ascent to the sacred mountain Ausangate, the mountain known as the guardian of our global family. This is where we will receive the blessings of the Andean priests and receive the lineage of the Incas.

We will have an opportunity to connect with the local people as we will be on this journey for three days; enjoying the experience of camping

under the stars, under the watchful eye of this sacred Apu for two nights. By this time we will be comfortably acclimatized to the high altitude and will be ascending up to 4600 meters (14500 feet) above sea level.

We spend the night in the village of Pacchanta, sharing the experience of Andean community life.

(Overnight in a family home.)

Friday / Day 6 / Apu Ausangate to Upis

Saturday / Day 7 / Upis to Pacchanta

Sunday / Day 8 / Pacchanta ceremony

Today presents two options: to remain near the hot springs and work with your mesa, or trek to the sacred Jaguar Lagoon, Otorongo Qocha.

There we will have a ceremony with Huachuma medicine, and make a despacho offering to the Apus, praying for blessings for our journey, and to deepen our connection with

this powerful Apu, the elements and the ancestral realms. In the evening we return to Pacchanta, where a relaxing bath in the hot springs awaits, followed by a dinner.

(Overnight in Pacchanta campsite.)

We again approach Ausangate, known in these communities as the guardian of all communities in the world. We will tune in via the sacred frequencies of the medicine ceremony, to receive the blessings of the lineage of Andean priests,

teachers and healers. Our ceremony takes place in the stunning natural temple of Lucio, a wise man who lives nearby, devoting his life to the Apus.

(Overnight in Pacchanta campsite)

Optional: a relaxed morning visit to the hot springs, with an amazing view of the mountain. Afterwards we pack for our return to Cusco, where we enjoy lunch and later and evening meal together. (Overnight in Cusco at Illa hotel)

We visit Saqsayhuaman, spending the morning marvelling at its architectural wonders. We learn of the mystery and legends of how this stone-walled complex was constructed.

We connect with the Sacred Trilogy of the Puma Serpent and Condor and learn what Incan elders understood of parallel dimensions. As we walk through the temple, known as the womb of Pachamama, we will experience a process of rebirth.

After visiting other sacred sites around the mountain, we return to Cusco for a city tour immersed in the smiles and laughter of the locals.

We visit Coricancha, one of the most revered temples, dedicated to the Sun God, whose walls and floors were once covered in sheets of gold. In the evening we gather for our farewell Dinner. (Overnight in Cusco at Illa hotel)

And that’s it! Or rather, that’s hardly it at all! Who can say what inner heights we will reach? Who can say how the blessing of the Apus will flow in our lives? It remains here only for us to deliver you in safety and comfort to the airport, in ample time for your flight home, and to bid you hasta pronto with all the love and blessings of the Apus.

Monday / Day 9 / Pacchanta to Cusco

Tuesday / Day 10 / Saqsayhuaman, Qoriqancha, Farewell dinner

Wednesday / Day 11 / Free time in Cusco, Airport transfers

The journey and journeying to Peru in 2015 were a reminder of what life can and should be. We were under the guardianship of Davina and Nizami, with the guidance of Puma and his team of shamans. You could not ask for better teaching and safety throughout the journeying as they were always front and back there to oversee our comfort, despite the depth of our journey. To say it was wonderful is an understatement as it was truly breathless. I am grateful to them for always being resolutely there as our guardians. Anthony, London.

The big news is my hearing has improved! The audiologist was surprised that the audiogram had improved ‘quite a lot’. Prior to yesterday’s test, I had realised that my mobile rings much louder than I thought! A big thank you to Puma, Davina and, I suppose, myself, for drinking the medicine with intent. An exceptionally powerful and rich experience. The beauty and history all around us was simply breathtaking. What a privilege to be shown this sacred land through the eyes of a genuine shaman and mystic. I loved how I grew closer to the land itself, her stories, the great condor, the snake and the puma. As the days went on, I journeyed inward and was delighted with revelation and inner-peace. The logistics were exceptional and I marvelled at how the organisers went above and beyond to cater to all our needs. I’ve really never seen anything like it. I absolutely loved the food and the local clothing culture. Above all, I was so touched by the intimate way the locals treated each other. We were all invited into the pack, as brothers and sisters, celebrating the magic of life together in the heart of the Andes. Sergio, London

Years ago, life put me on the track of Davina’s book, The Dream Whisperer. It was a revelation to discover that my dreams talk to me. Despite the dramatic events that happened in my country the day I flew to Cuzco, I was able to travel safely. I will never forget the support from everyone during our 11 days together. My time in Peru is deeply anchored in me. I felt moved to be guided by all Puma’s family. Yet I was not prepared to have my expectations exceeded. I am still integrating the richness, diversity, depth and intensity of the journey. I dived into the meditations, melted with the music, savouring every meal. My soul feels nourished as never before. My personal and professional life are changing for the better. I highly recommend Ayni Foundaton to anyone who feels the call to discover Peru.Sophie, Paris.
