Field News from Costa RicaTeam life is awesome. We have a large house where several of us live and where we have church services and Bible

college classes. Team meetings are also held at the house twice a week; once a week for fellowship and prayer and once a week to discuss team business. We have an “Hour of Prayer” each evening and pray for the needs of the Body around the world. If you have any specific needs, please feel free to contact us.

Church services are great – we are averaging 25 to 30 people each Sunday. Pastor Mike has been preaching on how God alone can satisfy our soul. We need to have a conscious dependency on God, moment by moment, and not be self-sufficient. We have the ability to connect with God and to reflect His character. It is this reflection of God that we want to present to people when we evangelize. People don’t want to hear empty words. They want to see Jesus in us.

We have plenty of opportunity to share God’s love with others. The largest university in Costa Rica is a ten-minute walk from the team house, and we evangelize on the campus once a week. Students are very open! When we stop to speak to someone, it isn’t unusual to spend twenty minutes or more sharing the love of God with them. We have a vision to hold a service one evening per week specifically for the college students. We also evangelize in downtown San Jose twice a week with the same responsiveness of people willing to talk about the deeper things of God.

People here in Costa Rica are very warm and friendly. However, just as people everywhere have needs, the people here also have needs. Costa Rica may be known as the “Florida of Central America,” but it has its hardships. Within the church, there are many people who need employment. There is one man who lost his wife five years ago to a heart attack at a relatively young age and he is just now learning to trust God again for his life. One young lady from the U.S. lost her niece and two other family members in a tragic murder situation. A couple of young men had their wives walk out on them, and we are praying for reconciliation of their marriages. The list goes on and on, as with all people. The only true answer is to go to the Source.

As many of you know, I was in Romania last year for ten months and I fell on an icy sidewalk in January and broke my shoulder. Since I still cannot raise my right arm more than shoulder high, I consulted with a doctor here and found that the break did not heal properly, and I have a pinched tendon. Although surgery does not seem imminent, I have been told my case is challenging.

The cost of living is the fourth highest in Central/South America, so it is necessary that I get at least part-time employment. I have my resume out regarding several ESL teaching positions, and I am praying that I can find work that won’t interfere with my involvement in Bible college, outreach, or any other form of ministry that God has for me.
