hi . . . . biNGO FaNs~By: Betty Dalton, Chairman of BingoThe leaves are turning a beautiful color , but will soon be falling with snow behind them. It is time to return to Florida and get back to playing BINGO. I will be returning in early November so we will start BINGO on Tuesday , November 15th at 6:30 pm. I understand that many played this summer and had a great time. We look forward to all of the summer players coming to play with us as well. Any questions about the games we play, we will be more than glad to assist you . Bring your dobbers and some money for cards.

For those who have not played with us in the past the cards cost this price: Admission cards are $2.00 for a 3 card pack or $4.00 for the 6 card pack. There are 18 games played on these cards. Bonanza , 50/50 and Brown Bag games are all $1.00 per 3 card sheet. You can get as many of these as you desire . The more we sell the larger the purse is as all money goes back to the players each week. We only save from the 50/50 to purchase more supplies for each year. We also sell dobbers at $1.00 each.

Food , coffee and soda will be served each week and is only a donation if you wish. Many people graciously

OLd FOLKs:Submitted by Virginia LeRoux Please remember that “old folks” are worth a fortune . . . with “silver” in their hair, “gold” in theirteeth , “stones” in their kidneys & “gas” in their stomachs! I have become a little older since I saw you last & a few changes have come into my life since then. Frankly, I have become quite a frivolous old gal. I am seeing five gentlemen every day. As soon as I wake up, Will Power helps me get out of bed. Then, I go see John. Then Charlie Horse comes along & when he is here, he takes a lot of my time & attention. When he leaves, Arthur Ritis shows up & stays the rest of the day. He doesn’t like to stay in one place very long, so he takes me from joint to joint. After such a busy day, I’m really tired & glad to go to bed with Ben Gay . . . . what a life! P.S. The Preacher came to call the other day. He said at my age I should be thinking about the hereafter. I told him, oh, I do . . . all of the time. No matter where I am, in the parlor, kitchen, in the Florida room or outside, “I ask myself, what am I hereafter?”

A legacy left behind by a departed loved one!Don't grieve for me, for now I'm free.

I'm following the path God has laid you see.I took His hand and when I heard him call,

I turned my back and left it all.I could not stay another day.

To laugh, to love, to work, or play.Tasks left undone must stay that way.

I found that peace at the close of the day.If my parting has left a void,

Then fill it with remembered joys.A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss.Oh yes, these things I too will miss.

Be not burdened with times of sorrow.I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow. My life's been full, I savored much.

Good friends, good times, a loved one's touch.Perhaps my time seemed all too brief.

Don't lengthen it now with undue grief.Lift up your hearts and peace to thee.

Bea was a valued & loved Sheriff’s Dept. employee, murdered by her husband on Sept. 18, 2011, leaving behind two sons, Matt & Dillon. Our sincerest sympathies to their family & friends!

~“tact” is the art of making a point . . . Without making an enemy! ~

red shirt day vs. bLUe shirt day FOr the MiLitaryBy: Carol Harris, EditorPeople in the U.S. show support for the troops in many ways. The yellow ribbon and the stars-and-stripes ribbon are two examples. A new emerging trend is to wear a red shirt---or sometimes a blue shirt---on Friday.

red shirt Friday• Red Shirt Fridays is a nationwide phenomenon in which people don red shirts every Friday to show support for the troops fighting abroad. It is not an organized political association and, despite the color, does not have any associations with the Republican Party. It is a meant to be a way to show support to the nation's troops.

blue Friday• Blue Friday embodies the same principles as Red Shirt Friday. Rather than wearing a red shirt, those wanting to support the nation's troops wear a blue shirt instead. Its purpose is to give people the opportunity to stand tall for the troops. The unofficial alliance also strives to connect donors and organizations to support the military.

confusion• In actuality, there is no real difference between Red Shirt Friday and Blue Friday. Neither side claims association with any one political party. Their sole purpose is to become a prevalent presence, bringing attention to the troops abroad and raising money for them and their families. God bless our troops & America any way you can!

compromiseWear the USA’s colors on Friday or any day . . . . RED . . . . WHITE . . . . . & BLUE ! !

* * * the above information was found on-line for your review & decision as how to honor our Troops . . . Support them in other ways by donating to organizations sending “care packages” to the armed forces or donate to a charity in their name. Also, fly the American flag every day or at least on legal U.S. holidays. Any kind of support for them is welcomed & appreciated !

Mr. James Dwyer came into the office and complained that the statement I made in October’s Newsletter regarding wearing blue on Friday’s is not correct and that we should wear RED to support our troops. I received a number of emails from relatives of our troops regarding wearing blue and this may be coming from a different organization than the one which Mr. Dwyer belongs to. I have had sons and grandsons in the service and my father was in World War II and I do support the troops. I feel that it is too bad that we have to have disagreements on the way people support their troops whether it’s wearing blue or wearing red . . . they are both the colors of our Flag. There is so much arguing and fighting in this world that this seems very small in comparison. Let us compromise and wear Red, White and Blue for our country & support our troops every day & not just on Fridays. GOD BLESS AMERICA!

hUrricaNe seasON eNds: on November 30th & as of the writing of this Newsletter, it looks like we’ve been quite lucky this year! Some of those storms came quite close, but moved up the east coast or out into the Atlantic . . . The winds smiled on us & we are very thankful . . . . But we must keep vigilant with our guard up!

NOveMber hOLidays: Sunday, November 6th, Daylight Savings Time Ends . . . Fall back . . . Turn your clocks back “one hour”!; Tuesday, November, 8th ELECTION DAY; Friday, November, 11th, VETERANS DAY . . . A day to remember those who have served our country in some way & also many who have given the ultimate sacrifice, “their lives” for our freedom! Thursday, November 24th, THANKSGIVING DAY . . . Let us be thankful for all of our blessings & freedoms in our country! Thanksgiving began as a way of giving thanks for food collected from a good harvest or for problems resolved during the year. It originated with the colonists in 1621 as a religious festival, but is now largely secular. Celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November, traditionally, families gather, have a turkey & all of the trimmings! The holiday usually includes the following “Black Friday” when all retail stores feature sales preceding the upcoming Christmas holiday. Remember to fly your American flag!

sMOKe detectOrs reminder . . If you have an electric smoke detector in your home, it is strongly recommended that you install a battery powered one also. If your power should fail, your electric one will not function. Also, if you have not changed your batteries recently, why not do it now? Check your detectors occasionally to make sure they are working properly by pushing the “test” button!

hOMe Fire saFety Have a fire extinguisher in your home & make sure that the gauge is in the green zone. Remember the following acronym for fighting a fire ; PASS . . . Pull the ring; Aim at the base of the fire; Squeeze the trigger; Sweep back & forth at the bottom of the fire. If the fire is beyond your capabilities, GET OUT & call 911 from your cell phone or a neighbor’s phone. Be careful & be safe in your home!

The board will also have a workshop in early Nov (TBA) to take care of some secretarial duties as our wonderful secretary, Marie, has decided to resign. We will all miss her and wish her well. the GUrU is iN...By: Tim GreenwoodIt’s that Time Again... AND The GURU IS IN I’m Listening AND giving advice... Let’s Start. Technology is defined as the usage of tools, techniques, or methods of organization to solve a problem. Today there are many tools, techniques, and methods of organization that can help address the unique challenges facing long-distance caregivers. Of course, deciding which specific tools and techniques will work best for your family will depend on your loved one’s level of impairment, as well as his/her tech-savvyness and the savvyness of those in his/her circle of care (yourself, siblings, children, care providers etc.). If a picture is worth a thousand words, a video is worth at least a million. Although not intentionally created for caregivers, online

~ a truly happy person is one who can enjoy the scenery on a “detour”! ~

video chatting services such as Skype and Google Chat are great tools for long-distance caregivers. Not only is video an emotionally rich form of communication, it also allows you to see how your loved one is doing (e.g. is her hair brushed, has she changed clothes). It also enables you to observe and monitor physical symptoms or changes in behavior that you may not notice over the phone. http://www.skype.com is free and simple. The only thing required is a Web Cam and Internet enabled Computer. Most Laptops now a days even come with Web Cams built right in. This advice comes from www.caring.com and is from a PHD who is a long distance care giver. Pass this on to those children or grandchildren and as a Parent or Grandparent don’t be afraid to embrace new technology. Especially if it can help you maintain your independence. Please feel free to contact me at 863-242-0519 or email [email protected] for any questions or comments regarding this article. I’m always glad to help. The Guru - Tim GreenwoodP.S. On a personal note. WeLcOMe NOrtherNers:!By Roving Reporter, Elma Johnson

When you read this, we’re ready to go into the November activities. Be sure to check the bulletin boards. Here’s to a good Winter Season!I started this column to help Carol fill up the Newsletter. It’s now quite obvious that she has plenty of news items. I would like to do some unique stories on people here in the Park. It’s sad that we have to read an obituary to find out details about our neighbors & friends. I hope that you approve & contribute in the future! This true story reminds me of an old fashioned fairy tale, especially in this day & age. My son, John, was a born athlete since he was four years old. In the summer, he played Little League, Babe Ruth Legion & County Baseball. Later he coached Babe Ruth. In high school he earned 13 Varsity letters in basketball, baseball, football

& track. He served as captain of all teams as well as being elected President of his Senior Class. He was chosen to represent our Legion #181 as Boy Stater & made the All State Basketball & Baseball teams. John dated his “true love” Kathy, when they were in their Senior year in High School. She was accepted at State Teacher’s College in Fredonia, N.Y. & he attended Mount Union College in Alliance, Ohio. They were married after their third year of college was completed. John was hired by Jones & Laughlin in Pittsburgh, moved to Cherry Hill, N.J. & worked as sales representative in Philadelphia, PA. Well, after 16 months they decided they didn’t want to spend their life in the city & John wanted to get back into athletics. After attending Kent State & receiving his certification in physical education & coaching John accepted a position at Fonda-Fultonville Central School & became athletic director & head football coach for 13 years. Kathy also held a teaching position for primary grades there & finally retired after 23 years. Their two daughters followed in their footsteps after High School. Julie graduated from Geneseo College, N.Y. & Janine, who always wanted to be a teacher, graduated from Oneota College, N.Y. Kathy & both girls enrolled at the University of Albany to earn their Masters degree in teaching. John also enrolled & received a degree in administration. John became the Middle School principal for 19 years. Of course, the girls were married. Julie’s husband is a U.S. Marshall & Janine’s is a lawyer holding a position in a D.A.’s office in Maryland. Five grandchildren came along & you’ll find them at Gram & Gramps home every holiday, all eleven of them.John & Kathy have a beautiful home on a hill overlooking the Mohawk River. They love their flowers & the gardens are a showplace all year long, but especially in the spring & summer! The moral of this true story is “Follow your dream”! Kathy & John have been married for 43 years & have been challenged by a few rough spots with love & trust. Needless to say, I love each & every one of these eleven people. I’m proud to be their mother, mother-in-law, grandmother & great grandmother! As you may have surmised, my article in the September Newsletter about the 63 year old man that fought & won over prostate cancer, was in fact, my son, John. Again, love, faith, family & friends came through for some really wonderful people!

Every resident should think seriously about becoming a member. Dues are payable annually @ $10 for a single & $15 for a couple. Contact any HOA board member to join this organization! A valuable asset to our community, having many functions, politically, i.e. dealing with the owners & management & also socially. Make an effort to pay your dues early to be eligible to vote in 2012 on Tuesday, January 10th, giving you a voice in decisions concerning your community. Also, if you or someone you know would like to serve on the Board, give their name to our nominating committee for consideration. Membership in the HOA allows you one vote per household to elect the Board of Directors of the H.O.A. as they are officially recognized & promoted by the FMO (Federation of Manufactured Home-owners)! The current Board members are: President-Marty Franklin; Vice President- \Nancy Overpeck; Treasurer-Kathleen Urquhart; Trustees-Pam Woollard; Rick Jock & Dan Shepherd.
