Single Parent Ministry

The holiday season is quickly approaching us and although for many

it is the “most wonderful time of the year,” for others it is a time of stress

and disappointment. That is where Sheridan House steps in to help. Each

Christmas we strive to help single moms and their kids who are in need.

Throughout both November and December, we are collecting toys and

gift cards in an effort to bless the entire single parent family.

It is our hope that every child experiences the joy of opening at least one

gift on Christmas morning. We know that gift giving isn’t the purpose of

Christmas, but it is certainly fun especially for children; and softens hearts

to hear about the ultimate gift available to all, Jesus Christ. If you would

like to make a child’s Christmas morning special...

• A new, unwrapped toy for our Christmas Toy Drive

(see ad on next page for detailed list)

• A gift card to a popular all-purpose store such as:

Target, Wal-Mart, etc.

Last year, two children wrote us stating, “We want to thank you for everything. We had the best Christmas thanks to you guys. May God bless you!” ~Nephthalie & Molia

A mom shared, “Christmas hasn’t been one of my favorite holidays, but this year will be different. I’m glad God has gracious and giving people like you. Thank you and God bless you!” ~Kim

That’s what it is all about really. Together we can extend Christ’s love to a child in need and offer hope to a hurting family in the midst of the holidays.

Whenever I think of November, my mind immediately jumps to Thanksgiving Day. Like many, the food, family, fellowship, and football have always been a special time for Rosemary and me. Every year, we put up a big poster board in the kitchen so as people walk by, they can write down what they are thankful for and we read it aloud as a family on Thanksgiving Day. For us, it has been a great reminder to not only give thanks on this special day, but to also have an attitude of gratitude on a daily basis.

As I think about what the Lord has done and is doing through the ministries at Sheridan House, I am overwhelmed with thankfulness. It is such an honor to see the children we serve begin to make wise choices that will affect their futures and the future of our nation.

Knowing that this month we will bless 300+ single moms with a turkey and all the fixings for a Thanksgiving meal is huge! We have the opportunity to not only provide them with much needed food, but also a special meal that will undoubtedly offer hope to their family during the holidays.

Additionally, when I hear the stories of the individuals and families that are breaking through and breaking free from the strongholds in their life as they are ministered to through our Counseling Center; I am blown away by God’s greatness and healing power.

So, thank you. Thank you for your partnership through prayers and financial support. Because of you we are able to help so many people in the name of the One who deserves all our thanks, Jesus Christ.

Serving Him,

celebrating a God movement that has

taken place in the life of someone we

serve daily. It is our way of keeping you

updated and aware of how the lord is

working in and through sheridan House.

He has been so good to us. Here’s a story

that created some buzz recently.

another Great story…The boys were still in their first week of school when we received a call from the

assistant principal. As usual, the call was about Derek. In spite of the fact that he made strides during the summer program, we figured he must have picked up where he left off at the end of the year. Last year, it seemed Derek was suspended more than he was actually in school. Whether it was because of his defiance, starting fights with other students, or simply walking out of class, Derek was constantly causing trouble at school.

Imagine our pleasant surprise when the assistant principal said, “Derek is having a great week! I just wanted you know how proud we are of him.” She went on to tell us how another student attempted to start a fight with him and Derek immediately chose to walk away. She explained that as Derek walked away he told the student, “This fight isn’t worth getting into trouble.”

Later that evening as we celebrated this accomplishment with Derek, we told him how proud of him we were. “I was pretty proud of myself, too,” he said with a smile. Whether they grow by leaps and bounds or by taking baby steps, it is a privilege to share these victories with the boys.
