**** FROM THE PASTOR ****
“Christmas” and“The Feast of the Holy Family”
My dear brothers and sisters we celebrate the great feast of our Savior’s birth, Christmas. Christmas is the most special time when
we rejoice in the love that God has for us. During the Christmas Season we recall the dramatic story of Mary and Joseph and the
birth of Jesus in Bethlehem 2000 years ago. How can we not be moved by God’s love for us as we recall the Son of God humbling
himself by taking on human flesh and being born in a manger.
Let us rejoice as we recall that Jesus came into the world for each one of us. Let us contemplate during this Holy Season that each
of us is special to our Father in heaven. As we contemplate his love for us let us recognize at the same time his love for each person.
Jesus at Christmas wants each of us to respect, care for and love one another.
The joy of Christmas is the presence of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, among us. As you celebrate Christmas with your family
and friends, we ask you to remember that we, the Parish of Our Lady of Good Counsel, are your family too and you and all your
family are part of our family.
On this day we recall the fulfillment of God’s promise to not leave us orphans. Rather, by sending his son into the world to be our
brother he made us his adopted sons and daughters.
Sunday the Feast of the Holy Family
It is the hope of the Church that this Feast of the Holy Family might instill into Christian families something of the faithful love and
the devoted attachment that characterize the family of Nazareth, Jesus, Mary, and Joseph.
The primary purpose of the Church in instituting and promoting this feast is to present the Holy Family as the model and exemplar
of all Christian families. Scripture tells us little about the early years and the boyhood of the Child Jesus. All we know are the facts
of the sojourn in Egypt, the return to Nazareth. Today’s Gospel tells the story of one of the important moments in young Jesus’
life. This occurred when the twelve-year-old boy accompanied his parents to Jerusalem for the celebration of the Passover. For
the first time in the Scriptures Jesus gives a hint as to his divine nature. Jesus hints at this when he tells Mary and Joseph: “Why
were you looking for me? Did you not know that I must be in my Father’s House?”
This story also emphasizes the importance of Mary and Joseph in the life of Jesus and the role of family. The Gospel ends by
telling us that: “He went down with them and came to Nazareth and was obedient to them . . . and Jesus advanced in wisdom and
age and favor before God and man”.
Happy New Year 2022
On Saturday we will celebrate the “New Year”. While the “Feast of Mary, the Holy Mother of God” is not a Holy Day of
Obligation this year, let us pray that this New Year will bring renewed efforts at peace in the world through the intercession of Mary.
As we begin this New Year and make our New Year’s Resolutions let us rejoice in the gifts and talents God has given us. It is time
for new members of the parish to use their gifts and talents in the service of Our Lady of Good Counsel. I invite you to step up and
help replenish the ranks of all our ministries. Our parish is in need of volunteers to be Eucharistic Ministers, Lectors, Mass Servers,
Ushers, Counters and Religious Education Teachers and Aides. With that thought in mind you may want to consider volunteering
to be active in the ministries of the parish.
May all of us make a New Year’s Resolution to grow in our relationship with Jesus, deepen our faith and commit ourselves to
serving him with the gifts of our time, talent, and treasure.
On behalf of Fr. Ray Rodrigue, Fr. Tom Norton, Fr. Steve Toth, Deacon Bob Glasner, Deacon
Bruce Olsen, Deacon Ron Romano and all the staff of Our Lady of Good Counsel I wish each and
every one of you a very peaceful, joyful
“Merry Christmas” and “Happy New Year”
