October 31, the FCC finally approved and released the AM revitalization plan discussed here a few issues back. It’s 32 pages long in PDF format; you can read it on the FCC web site – go to www.fcc.gov, and in the “Headlines” section on the left scroll down to October 31 and you’ll see it. Public comments are due 60 days after official publication in the Federal Register, which should be on November 5 or shortly thereafter. We’re a Social Group: The NRC is on
Facebook and Twitter! Social media is a yet another way to keep in touch with NRC members, share DX tips, and spread the hobby – and the news about what the NRC has to offer to a broader public. Looking for more information? See page 15. Unreported Stations: One more station
reported to DDXD for the first time since Volume 67, WCVC‐1330 … but new station KFOY‐1060 Sparks NV is on the air and not yet
reported, so we hold at 554 stations on the list. See e‐
DXN for the latest version of the list.

along a Northpine item that KRUE‐1170 and WZTI‐1290 have already begun broadcasting all‐Christmas formats. A wee bit early, if you ask me, but they didn’t. But if there’s Christmas music on the radio, that means there’s DX to be heard too … some good loggings this issue. KNX has been reported in the East several times already this season!

Another relatively quiet week at the FCC, but always a nice week when we have new licensed stations on the air rather than stations turning in their licenses!
CALL CHANGES 970 WJMX SC Florence – Call change to WWRK (10/30). 1370 WLFZ KY Fort Campbell – Call change back to WEGI; does not seem to have actually
used WLFZ on the air. 1400 WWRK SC Darlington – Call change to WJMX (10/30).

IRCA Mexican Log, 18th Edition (Winter 2013) The IRCA MEXICAN LOG lists all AM stations in Mexico by frequency,
including call letters, state, city, day/night power, slogans, schedule in UTC/GMT, formats, networks and notes. The call letter index gives call, frequency, city and state. The city index (listed by state, then city) includes frequency, call and day/night power. The transmitter site index (listed by state, then city) tabulates the latitude and longitude of transmitter sites. This is an indispensable reference for anyone who hears Mexican radio stations. Size is 8 1/2” x 11”.
Prices: IRCA/NRC members – $9.50 (US), $10.50 (Canada), $12.00 (México), $13.00 (rest of the world). Non‐IRCA/NRC members – add $2.00.

announcement, TC as 5:47, 1250 segué. Only fit in the UT‐7 zone per NRC AM Log is: KAFF Flagstaff, C&W, 5000/31 watts, PSRA 500, always non‐directional. But PSRA start‐time of 6 am local MST would not come until 0900. (GH‐OK)
930 WMGR GA Bainbridge – 10/19 0430 – ESPN radio sports programming. Format change? (DBJ‐TN)
950 KWOS MO Jefferson City – 10/23 1930 – Talk and then to ID as ʺNewsradio 9‐50, KWOS,” then local news. (FO‐OK)
960 KMA IA Shenandoah – 10/23 1934 – Help wanted ad for truck drivers in Shenandoah. (FO‐OK)
970 WKCI VA Waynesboro – 10/29 2059 – Poor below local WHA (which runs 51w ND at night), with unID talk program, LID // WKCY 1300 Harrisonburg VA into Fox news at ToH. Used slogan ʺNewsTalk 970.ʺ Long needed call change dating back to 11/2001. Had the Double Kaz pointed 100 degrees for this one. (BD‐WI)
1000 KKIM NM Albuquerque – 10/23 0829 – Call letter ID and into Focus On The Family show. (FO‐OK)
1050 KLOH MN Pipestone – 10/23 0818 – Mention of ʺhere in Pipestone.ʺ I have heard KLOH several times, their antenna must be directional right at the Oklahoma Panhandle. (FO‐OK)
5 1110 WTOF AL Bay Minette – 10/18 0410 – IRN news program, gospel music. ID as “ AM 1110
WTOF Bay Minette, AM 1360 WMOB Mobile.” NRC AM Radio Log lists as D1 10,000; are they now 24 hours? (DBJ‐TN)
1140 KLTK AR Centerton – 10/24 0836 – “Radio Las Américas, 11‐40” ID after norteña music, loops about ENE/WSW. No such slogan listed for a Mexican and there aren’t
any westward from XEMR Monterrey, the nighttime dominator. The SS in Arkansas is “La Más Mexicana” ‐‐‐ or was ‐‐‐ Google soon leads to Rogers AR now branded with this new slogan, broadening its scope. 0:5 kW ND daytimer. Must be a fairly recent change, as still with old slogan in NRC AM Log 2013 and the last time I logged it. Per own website, also look out for “La Más Perrototota y Punto,” “Pura Música Perrona.” The new name may have more to do with Supermercados Las Américas than continental
outreach, whose ads are splashed all over the page; new station owner? FCC AM Query still shows licensee as La Mas Mexicana LLC. (GH‐OK)
1150 WJRD AL Tuscaloosa – 9/28 0800 – Oldies music; announce as “True Oldies Channel.” (DBJ‐TN)
1260 KWYR SD Winner – 10/25 0812 – Poor ʺin Chamberlain, Winner & Mitchellʺ into ad about Crop Insurance. All alone. (JJR‐WI)
1280 WODT LA New Orleans – 10/18 0115 – Spanish sports talk from SE/NW, no doubt WODT with its major 5/5 kW lobe to the NW, now with ESPN Deportes, as the original WDSU is long‐gone. (GH‐OK)
1280 KPRV OK Poteau – 10/25 2059 – Fair and in the clear, with song ʺGoinʹ Out of my Headʺ into LID. This was immediately followed at 2000 by a somewhat louder LID from WWTC, into SRN news. At this point KPRV was still in but considerably below WWTC with music. So evidently WWTC had been experiencing dead air allowing KPRV to slip in and be logged. NEW! (BD‐WI)
1330 WCVC FL Tallahassee – 10/17 0800 – Holy Mass, ETWN programming. Another to mark off the unreported list. (DBJ‐TN)
1350 WRWH GA Cleveland – 10/18 0400 – Local Fox newscast, local weather. (DBJ‐TN) 1360 KHNC CO Johnstown – 10/30 2159 – Good with light QRM from KSCJ, with Bible reading
of John 1:19‐21, reading of the Preamble to the Constitution, LID including slogan ʺThe Lionʺ and a lionʹs roar into IRN/USA Radio news. NEW! A big thank you to Neil Kazaross for posting a tip on the NRC list that this station was on day power. (BD‐WI)
1360 KKBJ MN Bemidji – 10/25 0800 – Poor ʺin Bemidji, North Minnesotaʹs favorite ....ʺ No calls heard. Fading‐choppy. WTAQ nulled. (JJR‐WI)
1380 WMJR KY Nicholasville – 9/20 0500 – Holy Rosary led by Bishop of Lexington. (DBJ‐TN) 1400 KART ID Jerome – 10/31 0956 – Johnny Cashʹs ʺI Walk the Lineʺ; 0959:50 legal ID: ʺReal
Country... 1400 KART Jerome...;ʺ sounded like network news at ToH but could not tell which one. Poor reception. (JW‐CO)
1450 KYNT SD Yankton – 10/28 2302 – Poor but above the GY jumble, with AC music, LID into ABC news. A nice GY relog, 408 miles. (BD‐WI)
1460 KXPN NE Kearney – 10/30 0848 – Area scores, including high school volleyball and the Tri‐City Storm (US Hockey league); signal up and down with area sports; weather at 0859; dual legal ID at 0900 for KXPN‐1460 and KICS‐1550. Generally fair. (JW‐CO)
1550 KLFJ MO Springfield – 10/28 1921 – Many items about Branson, ID as ʺBranson Radioʺ at 1922. (FO‐OK)
1570 WTRB TN Ripley – 10/2 2100 – Cardinals baseball, local ads. (DBJ‐TN) 1590 WCSL NC Cherryville – 10/26 0429 – Poor to steady but choppy signal. WAKR nulled,
end of song, calls! 1590 #29, NC #53 NEW! (JJR‐WI) 1640 KZLS OK Enid – 10/28 1925 – Oldies mx, ID at 1927 as ʺ16‐40 AM, True Oldies.” Call
change logged. (FO‐OK) 10/31 0849 – Oldies music, local ads, OKC traffic; seemed to be local programming from ʺHank FM 99.7ʺ at this time rather than True Oldies feed; legal ID at 0859 as ʺ...KZLS Enid‐Oklahoma City.ʺ Fair signal, mixing with KBJA, which was slightly better here. Ex‐KOAG. (JW‐CO)
UNID
700 UNID ‐‐ 10/20 1518 – On car radio at a hotspot for MW in a mall parking lot, I am hearing not only Spanish from KHSE in The Metroplex, but something very weak underneath making SAH of about 2 Hz. Looking at 700 map, it has to be the further Texan, KSEV in Tomball (Houston market), 15 kW day power,
6 although not much toward us in either station’s pattern. Short for SEVen hundred, I suppose. Could those between Dallas and Houston confirm the SAH? Otherwise, less likely would be remnant sky‐ or even groundwave from WLW, a bit far and this is only half a sesquihour after local mean noon, Sun at zenith. This would be a slightly more possible in Dec or Jan. Without KHSE in the way, almost same direction, KSEV might have a better chance here on groundwave. (KTRH 740 is of course totally blocked by KRMG – and I rarely hear anything but KRMG at night on 740 except CFZM Toronto). (GH‐OK)
740 UNID ‐‐ 10/23 0826 – I finally manage to hear some Spanish briefly under KRMG Tulsa before it goes to day power/tower. May have mentioned “Radio Santa Fe” or similar syllables. Don`t find any Mexican or US station with such a name; NRC AM Log does show KIDR Phoenix AZ as Spanish religion, but I can`t find a website for it. (GH‐OK)
750 UNID ‐‐ 10/20 0805 – Rosary in Spanish; loops about WSW/ENE, suggesting KAMA El Paso which is SS, but supposedly not religious, but it`s Sunday morning and any station might do that temporarily. However, NRC Pattern Book shows both day and night it`s all‐westward from there. Don`t see any other likely US SS stations even eastward. Rarely hear any Spanish on 750. The most likely Mexicans in Cantú: 750 XEOH La Jefa + FM 96.1 Cd. Camargo, Chih. 1,000 750 750 XECSI Éxtasis Digital + FM 89.5 Culiacán, Sin. 5,000 250. (GH‐OK)
760 UNID ‐‐ 10/20 1520 – On car radio at a hotspot for MW in a mall parking lot, I am hearing not only the religion from KCCV Overland Park KS (Kansas City market) as usual, but something very weak under, making SAH of about 4 Hz. The second and third nearest 760s are KMTL 10 kW ND Sherwood AR, and KTKR 50 kW San Antonio TX, but direction mostly west and east‐southeast. So which one is 4 Hz from KCCV? There is no reference for such needed information. Another possibility for such trace signals would be local overload or mixing products, but in Enid we have only three MW locals which could be easily ruled out if I had enough on the traces to compare them. FWIW, I always check 670 and 720 for Chicagoans in the daytime, which have made it before. Now at 1925 UT, 670 bears only KLTT Denver, and a very weak signal on 720 could be WGN, or KSAH San Antonio. (GH‐OK) Online MW Offsets list has both KKZN‐CO and WJR‐MI heard on 759.9970 in October – DY.
940 UNID ‐‐ 10/20 0825 – After noting the 940+ het from XEMMM in Mexico, partial ID in its null as “94 [something] Country.” Nothing similar in the NRC AM Log 2013. (GH‐OK)
Thanks to this week’s contributors. See you next time. (JDT‐WA)
NOAA Space Weather Outlook Issued October 28 – For the period October 28‐November 23, 2013
(From http://www.swpc.noaa.gov/ftpdir/weekly/WKHF.txt) Solar activity is likely to be at moderate levels through 06 Nov when Region 1882 is expected to
rotate around the west limb. Predominately low levels are expected until Regions 1875 and 1877 return around 11 Nov. Chances for moderate activity increase at that time and will persist until 20 Nov when activity is expected to decrease again to low levels for the remainder of the period.
A chance for a proton event at geosynchronous orbit exists through 06 Nov as Regions 1875, 1877 and 1882 move across the western hemisphere.
The greater than 2 MeV electron flux at geosynchronous orbit is expected to be at normal to moderate levels through 10 Nov. An increase to moderate to high levels is expected from 11 ‐ 18 Nov following a recurrent coronal hole high speed stream (CH HSS). Normal to moderate levels are expected for the remainder of the period.
Geomagnetic field activity is expected to be unsettled to active with isolated minor storm intervals on 28 Oct due to a combination of the 24 Oct CME associated with the M9 flare and the CMEs associated with the two X flares observed on 25 Oct. Unsettled to active conditions are expected on 29 Oct with a chance for minor storm periods due to continued CME effects along with the arrival of the CMEs from the 26 Oct M flares. Mostly quiet to unsettled levels are anticipated from 30 ‐ 31 Oct as CME effects wane and only a weak CH HSS. Predominately quiet conditions are expected from 01 – 09 Nov. Quiet to unsettled conditions, with possible isolated active periods, are expected from 10 ‐ 13 Nov with the arrival of a recurrent positive polarity CH HSS. Predominately quiet conditions are expected for the remainder of the period.

730 KQPN AR West Memphis – 10/26 0728 – Presumed with Yahoo Sports Radio and network ads. Also noted 10/30 0701 with “AM 730 Yahoo Sports Radio” but no ID caught. The only other Yahoo Sports News affiliate listed at 730 on Yahoo’s website is WZGV, Charlotte, NC, which is not the DF on this. If KQPN, it would be a nice one at 1000 watts from here. (TLK‐FL)
WWTK FL Lake Placid – 10/30 1900 – “This is CBS World News Roundup” at tune‐in, “You’re listening to the CBS News World Roundup” at 1905, into male host talk but too weak to copy, finally at 1934 an ad for Lord’s Farm & Nursery... on Hwy. 27 North in Sebring” followed by female canned, “... weekdays at... CKDQ AB Drumheller – 10/24 0610 – Almost loud; dominating with commercial free country music and segue IDs for “Q‐Country” between each song. Heard at more ordinary levels earlier this week, but the signal this morning is smokin’. (BT‐PEI)
940 CJGX SK Yorkton – 10/24 0554 – Alone, good, with Lady Antebellum song and then time check of “3:54, 4:54 in Manitoba.” Then “GX‐94” ID. (BT‐PEI)

1070 KNX CA Los Angeles – 10/27 0644 – Fair, almost all alone with male announcer and weather for the area, including a temperature check for Irvine, then “Southern
9 California’s all news radio,” and more news programming, with a CBS news clip. (BT‐PEI)
1090 KAAY AR Little Rock – 10/28 0303 – Clear ID in WBAL null, with religion, seems to be a regular visitor here at night. I’m approx. 30 miles west of WBAL’s transmitter. (DS‐PA)
1130 CKWX BC Vancouver – 10/24 0656 – Poor, with some audio in WBBR morning fades that is leading the Internet stream by 9 seconds here. Business news leading up to the hour with a quote of oil prices. First time with CKWX this year, but not as strong as I have heard them in the past. (BT‐PEI)
1160 WCVX KY Florence – 10/28 0500 – Through WOBM and others; “Christian Talk 1160, WCVX AM Florence‐Cincinnati,” and SRN news. (BC‐NH)
1240 WSYY ME Millinocket – 10/28 0600 – Fair over WEZR; what sounded like a sign‐on announcement, “WSYY AM is owned and operated by Katahdin Communications Incorporated with offices and studios on the Lake Road in Millinocket, Maine,” then “This is WSYY AM Millinocket, Maine, CBS Sports Radio in the Katahdin area and Lincoln Lakes region, AM 1240.” (BC‐NH)
WTPS VA Petersburg – 10/27 0600 – Fair; “News/talk and solid gold, 1240 AM WTPS.” New log. (BC‐NH)
1250 WSSP MI Milwaukee – 10/30 1432 – “Sports Radio 12‐50 WSSP” ID. Mainly well over nostalgia station, presumably WGL Fort Wayne. Still no sign of WHHQ Bridgeport MI. I’m not holding my breath till this actually happens. (HF‐MI)
1280 WGBF IN Evansville – 10/28 1905 – Over sports talker (presumably WHTK‐Rochester) with PSA for Chamber of Commerce of Southwest Indiana, “News‐talk 1280 WGBF” ID into talk show discussing Obamacare. (MKB‐ON)
1330 CJYM SK Rosetown – 10/27 0706 – Excellent on fade‐up over WRCA, with “Long Cool Woman” by the Hollies matching Internet stream, then into “Dreams” by Fleetwood Mac, followed by no‐ID seque into “Long May You Run” by Neil Young. (BT‐PEI)
1380 WBTK VA Richmond – 10/27 0600 – Fair; ID in English and Spanish, “WBTK Richmond... WBTK treinte ochenta AM,” into Spanish vocal. (BC‐NH)
1410 WNER NY Watertown – 10/29 1900 – Over oldies (presumably WDOE‐Dunkirk, NY) and other sports talker with ToH ID as “Northern New York’s home for all sports, Fox Sports Radio 1410 WNER Watertown, the Winner.” (MKB‐ON)
1480 WCNS PA Latrobe – 10/25 2345 – “Westmoreland Weather” report, jingle ID in station mix. Into an old Brook Benton, Dinah Washington tune. (HJH‐PA)
1590 WCSL NC Cherryville – 10/25 2325 – Full multi ID with WOHS‐1390 Shelby and another outlet I couldn’t catch. Good at times with local sports coverage. (HJH‐PA)
1660 KQWB ND West Fargo – 10/30 1039 – “The Red River’s greatest hits, Oldies 16‐60” slogan. Peaks well on top, mixing with sports, presumably WQLR Kalamazoo. (HF‐MI)

46 Ridgefield Drive Nashua, NH 03062-1174
Trans‐Atlantic DX 611 MOROCCO SNRT Sebaa‐Aioun OCT 27 2250 – Noted after reading CapeDX/mwoffsets
report from Mark Connelly. Measured 610.999 kHz. Presumed Spain 612 also observed on spectrum analyzer. 612 Spain noted dominant with loud 611 het on Netherlands WebSDR. 611 presumed Morocco based on various reports. [Conti‐NH]
711 FRANCE France Info, Rennes OCT 26 2300 – Good over hum of 711.11 Western Sahara het; “...France Info” into fanfare and “Le journal” news. [Conti‐NH]
999 MOLDOVA Voice of Russia, Maiac OCT 27 2200 – Fair; “Golos Rossii” with what sounded like mention of the frequency, distinctive time marker into news. [Conti‐NH]
1035 SCOTLAND Northsound 2, Aberdeen OCT 22 0127 – Fair to poor in fades, with Dire Straits “Walk of Life” matching internet live stream. Not bad for listed 780 watts. [Taylor‐PE]
1062 ITALY Rai Radiouno synchros OCT 26 2200 – Fair; signing off with a couple of test tones, then carrier off. OCT 27 2300 – Poor; post sign‐off test tones. Daylight saving time ended in Europe on the morning of October 27, so Italy sign‐off is now an hour later. [Conti‐NH]
1134 CROATIA Hrvatske Radio, Zadar OCT 26 2200 – Good; ‘slow’ time marker, fanfare, “Hrvatski Radio, Prvi programa,” and news. [Conti‐NH]
1170 SLOVENIA R.Capodistria, Beli Križ OCT 26 2150 – Excellent, dominant over domestics, with light music and male announcer in Italian. Finally, out of instrumental piece at 21:55:40 with male ID, “Radio Capodistria,” into jazzy song in English, “I Wanna Kiss You.” [Taylor‐PE]
1215.13 ALBANIA CRI Fllakë OCT 26 2135 – Loud het against 1215 Absolute Radio. Measured 1215.132 kHz. [Conti‐NH]
1503 IRAN IRIB R.Iran, Bushehr OCT 28 2300 – Excellent; Koran parallel a weak 936 kHz. [Conti‐NH]
1547.85 UNITED KINGDOM BBC R.Bristol, Mangotsfield OCT 28 2325 – Het against 1547.99 and 1548 kHz. Measured 1547.853 kHz. [Conti‐NH]
Hauser transatlantic carrier search: OCT 29 on caradio hearing strong 1‐kHz het on 910, at 0120, so as soon as I am back on the porch with DX‐398, full scan finds all these past 0130, not necessarily in this order: 531, 585, 603, 693, 774, 783, 873, 882, 909, 954, 1044, 1053, 1089 (off‐frequency, birdie?), 1151, 1215, 1377, 1494, 1521. Another check inside with the DX‐398 at 0554‐0600: 549, 684 (vs WSCR IBOC), 693, 774, 882, 891, 909, 954, 1044, 1053, 1152, 1215. OCT 30 at 0048‐0053: 549, 693, 774, 783, 792 (vs WBBM IBOC), 873, 882, 891, 909, 1152, 1206, 1215, 1377, 1422, 1521, 1557. Mark Connelly pointed out that by accumulated power, my previous log of 774 would most likely be the RNE Spain synchros adding up to some 400 kW. Hauser transpacific carrier search: OCT 25 after finding 2‐7 MHz from Asia propagating poorly
today, did not expect any on MW, but there they are: usual JBA carriers at 1203‐1205: 693, 747, 774, 972, likely Japan and Korea South. Today’s sunrise here not until 1248. OCT 26 1151‐1157: JBA on 594, 693, 747, 774, 882, 972, 1143. 774 and 972 are slightly stronger than the others. I decided to sit on 972 at 1200 trying to detect a S Korean timesignal, but inconclusive. OCT 27 1157: JBA on 702 from south of due west; 774 from northwest. 702 presumably 2BL Sydney NSW, whose true bearing is 251 degrees at 13860 km (date correct, overlooked for previous report). OCT 30 1234: 747 is JBA, no others found in the area. OCT 31 1151: JBA on 612, 702, 882 kHz.
Pan‐American DX 640 CUBA R.Progreso, La Habana‐Guanabacoa and Las Tunas OCT 28 1000 – Fair; Primera
Hora program, receiving both stations with significant delay between them. [Conti‐NH] 700 MEXICO XEGD Hidalgo del Parral, Chih. OCT 27 1208 – English preacher about Corinth,
presumably WLW, with hum in the background, presumably supplied by XEGD as usual. [Hauser‐OK]
720 MEXICO XEJCC Cd. Juárez, Chih. OCT 27 1211 – Strong open carrier vs WGN with a SAH, probably XEJCC. [Hauser‐OK]
740 unID OCT 27 1212 – Song in Spanish vs KRMG about 6 Hz away. [Hauser‐OK]
11 800 MEXICO XEROK R.Cañón, Cd. Juárez, Chih. OCT 25 1209 – “CaLibre 800” is the name of
the newscast on R.Cañón. Opening crime headlines punctuated by dramatic music. Refers to XEROK being on a (once) clear channel, canal libre. Still dominant with virtually zero‐beat KQCV nulled, close to 90° away. No scratchy interference noted from Pato Donaldo, XEDD until 1225 check. [Hauser‐OK]
800 NICARAGUA Radio 800, Managua OCT 31 0106 – Noticed a fair signal with soccer, someone vs. a Costa Rican team, telco audio feed. Parallel the ustream.tv link, but with delay there. First local evening log of this one here. By 0127, R.TransMundial Bonaire co‐channel with Spanish preacher. [Krueger‐FL]
810 MEXICO XEFW Tampico, Tamps. OCT 28 1208 – Spanish news from north/south, 6:08 time check, ad and deportes; no sign of WHB. Presumably XEFW already back on CST, rather than XERI Reynosa in the same direction, which must still be stuck another week on U.S. CDT. I’ve always found it strange that Tamaulipas should have two 810 stations, especially when one of them is 50 kW along the coast. NRC Pattern Book shows both non‐directional. Then there are lots of other XEs on 810 kHz. [Hauser‐OK]
820 CUBA R.Ciudad de la Habana, Arroyo Arenas OCT 28 0959 – In jumble with WNYC, WGGM, and WBAP; signature piano music of canned ID. [Conti‐NH]
820 MEXICO XEUDO R.UdeO (Univ de Occidente), Los Mochis, Sin. OCT 30 1239 – Ballad, then 6:39 time check, “Radio – algo – Occidente” ID as 89.3 FM. No problem from WBAP which was in a fade, then back up but still nullable. That nails it as XEUDO Radio UdeO except Sinaloa should now be on MST = UTC‐7, i.e. 5:39 a.m. Maybe automation had not been reset? [Hauser‐OK]
840 CUBA CMHW Doblevé, Santa Clara OCT 27 0900 – Under WHAS; canned ID with theme music, “Esta es Doblevé...” [Conti‐NH]
870 MEXICO XETAR La Voz de la Sierra Tarahumara, Guachochi, Chih. OCT 25 1217 – Greeting in Spanish from someone upon the station’s 31st anniversary festival, presumably today in 1982. During the 1218 minute, two time checks as 6:17. Live announcer, has some hum on her mike, goes away with music. Come on: odd‐year anniversaries, especially prime numbers, are hardly significant, but in much of LA, every single anniversary is celebrated, rather than multiples of 5s, 10s or 25s. [Hauser‐OK]
900 MEXICO XEOK Acir, Monterrey NL OCT 28 1214 – Newscast originating remotely from “Huatulco,” (Wiki: Huatulco, centered on the town of La Crucecita, is a tourist
development in Oaxaca state), temps around south/central Mexico but not the north, refers to 88.9, time at 1215 as “seis y cuarto”; federal PSAs including CNDH. Somewhat overmodulated. 1217 co‐channel grows from another Spanish with news. The latter could really be XEW, but the former, as in DXLD 13‐38, already researched and traced the 88.9 relayer to XEOK. OCT 31 1226 – Feature report about ballet,
overmodulated and somewhat distorted, typical of this station, 1229 non‐ID as “Es 900 AM,” 1230 “reporte de tráfico y clima en 88.9,” 6:33 time check. It’s the relay of 88.9 in México DF as if anyone in Monterrey cared about traffic jams there. DF fits, a bit west of due south. [Hauser‐OK]
970 MEXICO XEJ Cd. Juárez, Chih. OCT 27 1225 – Slogans as “La estación de nuestro México,” then “La Jota mexicana,” and a corrida about a Chihuahua general in 1920; good usually dominant signal. [Hauser‐OK]
1300 MEXICO XEP Cd. Juárez, Chih. OCT 27 1235 – International bridge backup delay times – one only 5 minutes now. This is a staple of XEP, during drive time, or all the time? At 1237 reminds us the local time is still “6:35,” not 5:35 as Mexico beyond the border cities has reverted to standard time today: hora normal no aplica en la frontera for another week, in deference to wacky U.S. change date and all the Mexicans who travail across the border. [Hauser‐OK]
2910 MEXICO XEVT Villahermosa, Tab. OCT 27 at 1140, very poor signal with music, no doubt 970 x 3 XEVT. It takes superb conditions with low noise level for anything from this to be more readable. I would love to know how much power this frequency transmits. [Hauser‐OK]

Network listings for professional sports play-by-play coverage Here is 2013/2014 National Basketball Association (NBA) flagship information from the Internet
and local newspapers. Many web pages did not list the announcers’ names. And most of the network station lists are not dated, so I cannot be sure that the lists are current for the upcoming season. For some teams I found a list for a previous season, and for some I was unable to locate a network list. This flagship list may not contain information on all of the Spanish language broadcasts. At the end are all of the network lists that I could locate and reproduce; the nba.com web pages have a “No portion of NBA.com may be duplicated, redistributed or manipulated in any form.” message in the footer.
And, as with the NHL lists, I found some network lists on pages that were not linked to the team home page, so I do not know if these pages reflect the current season network list or a list from a previous season.
Please send me any URLs to network lists you may have, as well as any additions and/or corrections to the information below. Thanks.

U.S. NEW STATION CONSTRUCTION PERMITS – STATUS REPORT The FCC web site shows 58 outstanding CPs for new stations as of November 1, 2013. Of these, 9 CPs have applied for “licenses to cover” (LTCs) (i.e., have built the stations); some
have applied for or been granted program test authority (allowing them to broadcast on a provisional basis), and some have been heard on the air: 740 KCIK Kihei HI (U1 5000/5000) – Applied for LTC 9/12/2013. 1120 KTXW Manor TX (U4 5600/155) – Applied for LTC 1/4/2013; granted PTA 4/5/2013. 1200 KPSF Cathedral City CA (U4 5000/1300) – Applied for LTC 3/23/2012; granted PTA
4/13/2012; reported on the air. 1240 KRJW Altamont OR (U1 1000/1000) – Applied for LTC 8/14/2013; granted PTA 9/27/2013. 1340 WWNH Madbury NH (U1 250/250) – Applied for LTC 6/26/1989; was on air; now silent. 1350 KUSG Agana, Guam (U1 250/250) – Applied for LTC 7/17/2012; granted PTA 10/22/2012. 1400 KRAM Vernal UT (U1 1000/1000) – Applied for LTC 9/12/2012; granted PTA 12/12/2012. 1490 KHTC Malmstrom AFB MT (U1 1000/580) – Applied for LTC 1/20/2011; reported on the air. 1690 WIGT Charlotte Amalie, USVI (U1 920/920) – Applied for LTC 4/1/2013; applied for PTA
4/2/2013. An additional 7 CPs on the web site have expired and are presumably under appeal – KJJL‐540
Pine Bluffs WY, 550 Reno NV, WQTH‐720 Claremont NH, WZNH‐870 Fitzwilliam Depot NH, KUCU‐1060 Farmington NM, KPWL‐1370 Newport WA, and WJOE‐1450 Lake City FL. 3 CPs on the web site expired recently; especially with the government shutdown, they may have
gotten LTC applications in before the deadline – WSGD‐1230 Summerville WV, 1240 Prescott AZ, and KVSM‐1380 Santa Maria CA. You should see AM Switch notices of LTC applications or deletion on these CPs soon. The remaining 39 CPs are still within their original 3‐year window. 23 of these CPs are set to expire in 2014: 640 Terre Haute IN (has application to move to Peotone
IL); 880 Wasilla AK; KDPP‐890 Oliverhust CA; KEGC‐1030 Elk Grove CA; WZBR‐1120 Coral Springs FL; KCKQ‐1180 Reno NV; 1180 Jacksonville OR; 1210 Osceola IN; 1230 Terre Haute IN; KBEV‐1230 Beaver UT; 1330 Prescott Valley AZ; 1400 Paukaa HI; 1420 Rowe NM; 1450 Craig CO; KMCA‐1450 Hilo HI; 1460 Shawano WI; 1520 Fultondale AL; KDCO‐1550 Golden CO; 1550 Midland TX; WIVS‐1560 Village of Superior WI; 1570 Fritch TX; WODJ‐1590 Big Rapids MI; 1590 Paradise NV. 12 more will expire in 2015: KBLN‐830 Grants Pass OR; 1010 Reno NV; 1020 Star ID; 1100
Lebanon OR; KSPK‐1180 Walsenburg CO; 1250 Kahului HI; 1260 Keaau HI; 1340 Rothschild WI; 1360 Tyonek AK; 1400 Juneau AK; 1540 Southchase FL; 1580 Red Bluff CA. And only 4 have been granted (so far) in 2013 to expire in 2016: 780 Draper UT; 1020 Blue
Mountain NV; WNCR‐1190 Red Oak NC; 1310 Anchorage AK. The FCC still has a number of outstanding applications from the last application window in 2004,
and it seems likely that a few more CPs will be granted from those applications. In most cases there are mutually exclusive applications to be resolved. I haven’t done an exact count, but it seems that, of the CPs that expired in 2013, probably three‐quarters or so expired unbuilt. It often seems that applications get the CP first and then try to find financing for the station when they get the CP – or try to sell the CP after it’s been granted – and more often than not it doesn’t work out. If you have news on the status of a new station CP, send it to AM Switch! – David Yocis.
