PTA President’s Message
Happy Fall Roadrunners! Hope everyone had a fun and safe Halloween! Just a couple of announcements / reminders for you all... First and foremost….a great big THANK YOU to everyone who participated in the Ruby’s Diner Fundraiser! We netted a little over $440. It was great to see everyone there! Our BIG fundraiser is this week…..the Turkey Trot. Every little bit helps, so MAKE SURE
YOU ARE ASKING FOR THOSE SPONSORSHIPS! Money raised will be turned around and funneled back to the kids through NUMEROUS avenues….a few of which include: All the Arts, Media Center, PE Equipment, Student Programs & Assemblies, Reflections, Speech Center, Tech Lab, Library Books and so much more. So remember to turn your envelopes in! Gobble Gobble!! Also…an “Emergency Preparedness List” has been sent home in the kids’ Tuesday Folders. Every class is responsible for supplying a particular item for our school’s emergency supply shed. PLEASE remember to send these items in! We carefully choose the classes and numbers of items on the list to ensure that the ENTIRE student population is provided for in the event of an emergency. If we don’t receive all of the items, that means that there will not be enough for every student at school….so PLEASE do your best to get those items in! Items need to be turned in to your classroom no later than THIS THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 4TH!! And no need to label your individual item with your child’s name (unless your teacher has told you to do so). All of the items will be stockpiled in one location in the shed. Read more on page 3

A Haunted Halloween
By Leia Alvarado 2nd grade, Mrs. Jeffries
After school my friend Leoni and I went home. We got lost on the way home. Then we saw the woods. We went deep into the woods. When we were in the woods we saw a werewolf, vampire, ghost, and a mummy. Then we found a haunted house. We opened the door and went inside. Leoni and I were very scared. I told Leoni to go with me upstairs. Every step I took I heard a squeak. We went into a room and opened the closet door then a ghost came out. The ghost chased us all around the haunted house. Finally I found a way out of the haunted house. We got out of the haunted house and never came back. We got home safe.

Principal’s Message
I’m sometimes asked…….How can a parent help a child to become a better writer? Some of the “tips” below have been gathered from various sources and I deem them to be helpful! Parents can use everyday activities to promote the lifelong skill of writing. Children can be taught how to write at a very early age by showing them that writing is a form of communication like talking. Reading stories to your child is a motivational force that could inspire them to want to write. In elementary school…….
" Have fun with writing. Have your child trace letters accurately. Make this a huge deal.
" Make up stories with your child and you can write them down. " Have children write short stories. " Have your child write cards and notes on holidays and birthdays. " Have them read stories they have never read before and write a book
report about the story. " Have your child write about someone they know. " Play word games to lengthen and strengthen vocabulary and the desire to
write.
Encourage writing by purchasing fun pens and pencils that children may find interesting. Buy notebooks that fill the same purpose. Have them start a diary, write notes, letters, and lists (grocery). The aim is to get the child to write either letters or stories so they will enjoy writing. One of our school goals this year is that all students will score at the proficient/advanced levels on their writing benchmark exams. Happy writing!!!!

PTA Presidents Message continued from page 1
A great big thank you to all of our AWESOME Roadrunner students who “GOT IN GEAR” and participated in our Reflections Program….from what I hear, we have some VERY TALENTED students here at Laguna Road. Participants are invited to attend the “Reflections Award Night” on Thurs, Nov 18th. More information to come in the Tuesday folders. An upcoming event to watch out for….Our annual FIES food drive! FIES stands for “Fullerton Interfaith Emergency Services” and is a local distribution center for families in need. Every year, the families of Laguna Road are so generous in their donations to this very worthy organization and we hope this year will be no different! More information will be coming out about the food drive…so keep an eye on those Tuesday folders! Thanks as always to all of you wonderful volunteers out there! We couldn’t do it without you! Make sure you are recording your hours (and signing in when you arrive at Laguna Road) in the notebook in the office. Many, many thanks to you all! And we hope to see you at the next PTA meeting….Tuesday, November 9th at 8:45 in the school library. Our next Korean Outreach meeting is on Wednesday, November 10th at 11am in the “Pit.” Pick a meeting and come see what’s happening at Laguna Road! Gobble Gobble….Beep Beep!! # Nivie Jhawar

Hi, my name is Kylie Kim, I am 10 years old and I'm in Ms.Michalski's fifth grade class. I wanted to run for president of Michalskiville because I'm smart, funny, and responsible. My friend Francesca ran for Vice President and we campaigned together. I was really interested in running because it seemed like a responsible job. If I won I would be the first President this year in Michalskiville! I had fun making my posters and writing my speech with Francesca. When it came to the day for the elections, there were many things I was feeling. I was excited, nervous, confident and more. When it was time to do my speech I passed out stickers that said "Vote iKylie." When I did my speech with Francesca, we did it like a T.V show, it was called Michalskiville News. When my teacher announced who was the President and Vice President I couldn't believe my ears when she said I won the spot for President and Francesca won for Vice President. I was so happy and excited for the both of us! For future plans I plan to be the best President I can be. It's not just what I want that will make me happy, it's what my classmates want that will make me happy because when I make a decision I'll know it's the right thing because it's what my classmates want.

OSS Christmas Boutique Update
I can’t believe it! October is almost over and November is almost here. You know what that means… That’s Right! Christmas is around the corner! Many of you know what Christmas brings, Christmas carols, warm fires, and family time. It also brings, shopping, shopping, and oh yeah, more shopping? So guess what that means??? It’s time to prepare for the Christmas boutique. The Christmas boutique is one week of pure shopping fun. That means your 6th grader has the opportunity to make lots of money to go towards his or her OSS account. They can make items to sell, they can also use gently used items to sell. They have to start now though. I know it is the first week of November, but the time will go fast and you will need to have your items ready no later than Friday, November 26th at the end of the school day. The original goal of the boutique was that each 6th grader would make an item or items to sell. We do realize that not everyone is crafty so you may purchase items such as pencils, pens, little games, small toys, gently used items such as Christmas décor, games, toys, etc. This also brings us to another situation. We need someone to Chair the Christmas boutique. This person will decorate and organize the week long event. This person will have to collect/count money, organize a volunteer list, set up and clean up. We do need a lot of volunteers so please, help us organize this event. We have an opportunity to make money for your 6th grader to lesson the $407.00 each child is to contribute for the big camping event. Thank for all your help. Theresa Wolfe
