GIFT AUCTION February 23, 2013 The Gift Auction, a major fundraiser for AAUW Funds and branch scholarships and essay awards, will be held Saturday February 23, 2013 at Brick High School Cafeteria #3 from 1-4pm. It’s not too early to organize your gift items for prizes. You can drop them off at the home of Barbara Tuzio after January 1, 2013. Collections of items for themed baskets are already under-way. The themes are: November-gift wrap, bags, cards; December-toys, games, books for kids; January-pet supplies for dogs or cats; and February gardening supplies. You can still add to September and October themes which are Fall décor items and Italian foods. Thank you to those of you who have signed up to help. We still need many more volunteers, especially the day of the Auction. Our most pressing needs are two people for hospitality and five people to sell raffle tickets. February may seem far away, but we must have things set in place before that. Please call Barbara or Maureen to say you will help. Members can do any or all of the following: 1. Make up a themed basket of your own choosing. 2. Bring in items for the themed baskets which we will put together. Themes will be determined for each month. 3. Contribute money toward a themed basket. 4. Donate NEW items which you may buy, already have, or something you want to “regift”. Remember items must be New, New, New. 5. Obtain a gift certificate or other item from a local business or restaurant. Solicitation letters are included in this newsletter. Also save your empty baskets for us to fill! Cozy Quilters We had a very ambitious Summer and Fall. The Cozy Quilters literally had fabric flying! Members Marie Hagemann, Judith Hromoko, Marcia Guza, Irene Ribaudo, Maria Sendzik, Barbara Tuzio and Barbara Corbin met regularly for fabulous desserts and great quilting. Irene finished her beautiful Log Cabin quilt and became a new Grandmother of Amelia Curry (member Lynn Curry’s newbord). Barbara finished quilting her oriental project and will begin the hand quilting on her floral Stack-n-Whack quilt. Marie finished her Stack-n-Whack and is working on a pastel quilt now. Marcia continues to dazzle us with her great quilts and Judith continues work on her applique quilt. Maria is working on another panel for her Bargello quilt. As a group, Maria challenged everyone to a “Jelly Roll Quilt Race.” It involved taking forty-two 2 ½ inch strips of fabric, normally sold in a round bunch called a Jelly Roll, and sewing them into one long 1600 inch long strip. That strip is folded in half end to end and sewn again, then folded and sewn again four more times. The finished product is a stripped quilt. Judith loved the process so much, she went home and did three. The Jelly Roll Race produced many winners! We now turn to all our Holiday projects. It’s crunch time! Happy Holidays everyone and you are welcome to join us! Maria Sendzik

MOVIE MANIACS Come join us Sunday November 18th at the Brick AMC to see “Lincoln” starring Daniel Day Lewis as the 16th President of the United States. Time TBA. Last month we went to see “Won’t Back Down”. All who attended enjoyed this movie about a mother fighting to reform her child’s school with the help of one of the teachers from the school. Excellent cast and acting. Plot line a bit predictable. Please join us in November and bring a friend! Pammi

A typical fall evening graced the autumn atmosphere inside the BrandyWine assisted living facility where this year’s Psychic Night fundraiser was held. The four psychics from Charmed and Company each had their own individual areas to do readings, and our guests were treated to the delicious complimentary finger food, beverages, and yummy dessert provided by BrandyWine! Our evening was a success as the funds raised go towards our scholarship award and gift auction planning. A special thank you to our President Pat Baroska, members Pam Coratti, Susan Haas, Joan Hogan, Marlene Pigut and Barbara Tuzio for all their assistance during the evening as well as other members who attended for a reading! Thank you to all the members and guests who made this event a success! Maureen K. Mitchell Fundraising Chair
