Introduction :

My dear Confreres,

Fraternal greetings to you.

In the field of management and administration people are classifiedinto two categories, as proactive and reactive. Reactive people arepessimistic and make mess out of the situations, leading todisappointment and disorientation. They do not make the best use ofthe opportunities rather complain of the situations they are in. Whereasproactive people are optimistic and make every situation intoopportunities and become creative leading to achievements andsuccess. To be proactive is to be highly effective in the world of today.

This could be true of our life too. As religious we can be proactive orreactive depending on our attitude and aptitude towards our life andministry. Every society or organization has a set-pattern of behaviourand set-pattern of rules and regulations. The Decree of Bishop JosephRey conferring canonical status to the Congregation of the Missionariesof St. Francis de Sales of Annecy, dated 24th October 1838 states that“Up to now you were just a team, but you were not guided. Charity hasunited you, but the smallest incident can break your unity. From now on,your Rules will direct you and protect you from all types of discord”. WhatBishop Joseph Rey meant by Rules could be Constitutions, GeneralDirectory. Province Statutes, Statement and Action Plan and theteachings of the magisterium etc. These are the guiding principles ofour religious life as Missionaries of St. Francis de Sales. Hence, I requestyou all to read them diligently and live them as priests and religious.

Mahatma to the nation. In the second part of the programme the studentsof Visakha Vimala Vidyalaya, Steel Plant put up a nice culturalprogramme guided by the management of the school. Studentsperformed a skit depicting the entire life of Mahatma and his role in theIndian freedom struggle. Special thanks to Sr. Robel, Principal and thecommunity members and staff and students for their co-operation. Fr.Francis Stephen speaking about Mahatma Gandhi said that Gandhiji isnot merely a person but a power, a force, an energy and a shakti. Hewas a man of action, a karma yogi. He was one of the most prominentpersonalities of the world who promoted SARVODAYA (Welfare of all)and equality (samanatva of all). He drempt the samanvayam and santhi(harmony and peace). Man is the centre of his philosophy and thereforeMahatma believes the essence of man to the essence of God. That iswhy he appreciated the sermon on the mount of Jesus Christ. So theperson of Gandhi and his thought is ever relevant for entire humankind.

Letter from the Synod Fathers to Young People

In a Letter addressed to young people of the whole world, the SynodFathers invite the young to “be a brighter future.”

XV Ordinary General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops.

We, the Synod Fathers now address you, young people of the world, with a word of hope, trust and consolation. In these days, we havegathered together to hear the voice of Jesus, “the eternally young Christ”,and to recognize in Him your many voices, your shouts of exultation, your cries, and your moments of silence.

We are familiar with your inner searching, the joys and hopes, the painand anguish that make up your longings. Now we want you to hear aword from us: we wish to be sharers in your joy, so that your expectationsmay come to life. We are certain that with your enthusiasm for life, youwill be ready to get involved so that your dreams may be realized andtake shape in your history.

Our weaknesses should not deter you; our frailties and sins must notbe an obstacle for your trust. The Church is your mother; she does notabandon you; she is ready to accompany you on new roads, on higherpaths where the winds of the Spirit blow stronger – sweeping away themists of indifference, superficiality and discouragement.

When the world that God so loved, that he gave us his only Son, Jesus,is focused on material things, on short-term successes, on pleasures, and when the world crushes the weakest, you must help it to rise upagain and to turn its gaze towards love, beauty, truth and justice oncemore.

For a month, we have walked together with some of you and with manyothers who have been united to us through prayer and affection. Wewish to continue the journey now in every part of the earth where theLord Jesus sends us as missionary disciples.

The Church and the world urgently need your enthusiasm. Be sure tomake the most fragile people, the poor and those wounded by life yourtraveling companions.

The Message is forwarded by Superior General.
