What is NOUN?• A NOUN is word used to name a person, animal, place
thing, and abstract idea • The underline words in the following examples are all
nouns
Ex :• Our neighbor bought a new car last month• The library at Alexandria was destroyed in 48 B.C• Information is important for everybody
What is NOUN PHRASE ?- Phrase is a group of words in this case means more than
one word.- Noun Phrase is a phrase(group of words) which has a
noun as a head word.
Ex:• two books• much money• the beautiful woman who teaches English• the man standing there• the students in the class
Modifier- Words which come before a head word are called
Pre Modifier.- Placed between the determiner and the head noun :
adjectives, noun, participle, etc- Form • PreModifier-----H ----- Post Modifier

Present participle(may be used to modify a noun
and express a process that is still in action.)
Past participle(may be used to modify a
noun and express a completed state. )
This is a roasting chicken This is a roasted chicken
Frying potatoes smell delicious. Fried potatoes would taste good right now
Falling trees are a danger to hikers.
Fallen trees littered the forest floor.
Number (A number, a determiner,
tells us how many items are in the set. In this sense, it is a
modifier. )
