LENTEN OBLIGATIONS

Wednesday, February 14th is Ash Wednesday. Please check Mass schedule carefully for Mass times.

Collection for the Church in Eastern Europe will be taken up that day.

LENTEN FAST AND ABSTINENCE Ash Wednesday and Good Friday, (March 30th), are days of fast and abstinence (from meat) in the universal Church.

Every Friday of Lent is a day of abstinence (from meat) in the Church in the United States.

The law of abstinence binds Catholics aged 14 and older. Catholics aged 18 and over, until the beginning of their 60th year (through age 59) are bound

by the law of fasting (canon 1252).

EASTER DUTY

In the dioceses of the United States, the obligation to receive

Holy Communion at least once a year may be satisfied from the

First Sunday of Lent (February 18th) to Most Holy Trinity

Sunday (May 27th). For a just cause, the Easter duty may be

fulfilled at some other time of the year (canon 920).

INTERNATIONAL PARISH SURVEY

INSTRUCTIONS

• Survey may be taken until March 5th. • To take the survey online the website is:

www.disciplemakerindex.com

• Surveys will be available in hard copy (English or French) at all weekend Masses during the month.

• Volunteers will be on hand a half hour before Masses and be there after Masses to assist you in completing the survey if needed.

• You may also pick up a survey at Mass, fill it out at home, return it the following weekend, and place it in a marked box at the entrance or the collection basket.

• You may pick surveys up for those in your family (or neigh-bors) who may not attend on a regular basis and have them fill it out.

• A volunteer will be at the St. Thomas Center in the Faith Formation meeting room on Tuesdays from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon and Thursdays from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. during the month of February for those of you who wish assistance in filling out the survey or wish to do it online and have no computer access.

LENTEN RETREAT: Join us for a small group retreat that delves into the simplicity and grandeur of consoling spirituality. This retreat is based on the popular book by Fr. Michael Gaitley, MIC, Consoling the Heart of Jesus. Gain new insights into how you can console Jesus; learn the keys to the great sanctity of the saints and blessed like Therese of Lisieux, Faustina Kowalska, and St. Mother Teresa; and have all the tools you’ll need to “ become a saint, a great saint, and quickly.” Easy as 1-2-3! (1) Read the select readings in the retreat book. (2) Answer the questions in the Retreat Companion. (3) Meet regularly with your group. FMI call Barbara Roy at 895-6943.

CHRISTIAN LIFE CENTER

THE CREED Fr. Plourde will be offering a spiritual reflection on the Creed at the Christian Life Center during the Lenten Season. The reflection sessions will be held on Wednesdays at 1pm and repeated on Wednesday evenings at 6:30pm. There will be three reflection sessions on Wednesday, February 21, 28 and March 7. You are welcome to attend any one of the sessions or all three. These reflections sessions can be attended via teleconference in Caribou and Houlton.
