In the year 2016 a total of 388 permits were issued. Till 10th
September 2017, a total of 309
permits were issued. This surely presents a steady and assuring trend which clearly indicates the
growing popularity of Motorsport in India.
2017 Training/Seminars
The FMSCI with the support of the FIA conducted a very valuable Training Seminar for three
categories of Officials in Hyderabad and had a record attendance of 210 Officials. The Training for
the 4W discipline was conducted by the MSA from UK who are the accredited Trainers for Officials
by the FIA and the Training for the 2W Road Racing discipline was conducted by our own FIM
accredited Officials from the FMSCI. The training was imparted to the following categories of
Officials:
a) Train the Trainer Program for Volunteers and Marshals: This was 3 day program. The
same was attended by 21 people.
b) Race Director & Clerk of the Course Training Program: This was a 2 day program and was
attended by 67 Officials.
c) Stewards Training Program: This was a 2 day program and was attended by 122 Officials.
Manufacturer’s involvement in the Sport:
We have seen an unprecedented growth in the involvement of manufacturers in the sport from JK
Tyres, MRF, Mahindra, Volkswagen, Tata, Maruti, Toyota, Yokohama, Honda, Suzuki, TVS,
Yamaha, Rolon, KTM etc. Their investments into the sport in the year 2017 have been substantial
and their plans for 2018 look even more promising.
The MRF International Series with the MRF 2000 Formula Car was a great success attracting
renowned young International drivers from Europe and Asia while the MRF 1600 provided a good
platform for young Indian drivers in the MRF MMSC FMSCI Indian National Racing Championship.
MMSC also introduced a novel concept in the FLGB 1300 Class for college students and Rookies
which was well attended.
The JK Tyre FMSCI Indian National Racing Championship with the Euro-JK FB02 Class has made
waves across the country and internationally with its unique and one of a kind scholarship
program for young talented Indian drivers coming from the ranks of karting and the Indian
Formula Classes. To support the same, the FLGB4 class nurtured by JK Tyres has always produced
some of the most exciting races in India.
Tata once again created a huge impact in the Truck segment with their International Truck Race
which also gave the unique opportunity to Indian drivers to take part and showcase their skills.
This event has become a landmark event in the history of truck racing.
Mahindra have surely and truly stamped their name in International Motorsport with astounding
results in the Formula E Championship as well as in the MRF FMSCI Indian National Rally
Championship. Their foray into the Moto GP with their own team has been unprecedented and

we do hope that such endeavours will provide the required platform for our young Indian Riders
and Drivers.
Volkswagen has continued to up the ante by bringing out the new VW Ameo Cup Car. I have
personally tested the car and I would like to congratulate VW Motorsport in providing our Indian
drivers with such a technologically advanced race car. Indian drivers wanting to make a career in
Touring cars and GT Cars Internationally now have the ideal platform to work on in the form of
the VW Ameo Cup. VW Motorsport also continues to work with the Indian Rally drivers with the
VW Polo Rally Car.
Maruti has taken a great step in promoting grass root level motorsport in the form of the Maruti
Suzuki FMSCI National Autocross Championship held across the country. Apart from this, Maruti
has been the long standing sponsor for the most renowned Indian Cross Country Rally’s which
also went International this year.
The 2W segment has been no less in terms of growth in the involvement of manufacturers in the
sport. It is also very satisfying to see manufacturers now competing against each other and
supporting private teams in the National Championship. Honda, Suzuki, TVS and Yamaha have
further consolidated their single make classes running along with the National 2W & 4W Racing
Championships. This has allowed young riders to graduate into the National Racing
Championships. It is also gratifying to note of the support given by Honda, Suzuki, TVS and
Yamaha to their talented riders in International Championships.
Indians in International Events
It is heartening to note that we have issued approximately 160 No Objections Certificates for our
Indian competitors to take part in International Events in 2016. It is even more heartening to note
of the podiums and wins achieved by a host of young Indian Drivers and Riders at some very
prestigious International Championships.
New Initiatives
The FMSCI set up the New Initiatives Commission which has been extremely active and set up
many new initiatives in a short span of nine months which are listed below :
• On Line Licensing system which has now taken the load off the secretariat and has made it
much easier for the applicants.
• Corporate tie up with Indigo Airlines for all FMSCI Members, Officials, Organizers and
Participants.
• Motorsport India App which will bring the entire Motorsports community together under one
roof. This is under development.
• Updated Website which has now attracted a sizeable following.
• The new FMSCI Social Media platform which has become very popular on Twitter and
Facebook.

Women in Motorsport Commission
For the first time, the FMSCI has set up a new Commission for Women in Motorsport. The WIM
has now come up with a Vision and Mission statement and the same is being put into practise by
the end of this year. This will give a great opportunity for young women enthusiasts to excel in the
various motor sporting disciplines.
In Closing
All our disciplines have done immensely well this year thanks to the combined efforts of the
Promoters, Organizers, Sponsors, Participants, Officials and Media. The Café Coffee Day Rally was
a flagship event in 2016 which was also a round of the Asia Pacific Rally Championship and is
poised to get even bigger this year. The Asia Road Racing Championship for 2W is scheduled for
the 24th
September and has a record number of entries from across Asia.
The FIM Asia Super Moto Championship brings a round to Bangalore in November which will be
the first of its kind in India.
I would like to place on record my sincere appreciation to our Vice President Mr J. Prithiviraj,
Secretary General Rajan Syal, my fellow Councillors, Chairman of all the Commissions and
Committees, Regional Co-ordinators, FMSCI officials and volunteers, Member Clubs, Sponsors,
Media, Manufacturers, Government of India, FIA, FIM and the CIK, Competitors, Parents, and all
the motorsport enthusiasts. Your support and guidance has been immense and I would like to
thank you all for contributing towards the development of Indian Motorsport.
My personal appreciation and gratitude to the hard working Secretariat comprising of Naren,
Shriakant, Sivaguru, John and Sharon. The quantum and quality of work done by these selfless
people needs to be seen to be believed.
I would also like to thank our Chartered Accountants PN Balasubramanian & G Sudha, Legal
advisor Mr SR Rajagopal, Company Law consultant Mr Ramgopal Lakshmi Ratan for their
unstinted support and advice given to keep the FMSCI as water tight as possible.
This year has been a year for the Sporting & Technical Commissions, the Competitors and the New
Initiatives. In my Mission statement at the beginning of the year after taking over as the President
of the FMSCI, I had given a lot of impetus to the Commissions of all the disciplines and to the
Competitors.
I would like to congratulate each and every Commission head along with their Commission
members for doing a wonderful job and being the core of the sport. It has been hard work and a
lot of time has been spent by these wonderful people. My heart goes out to all the competitors
and teams in the manner in which they have competed till date. The quality and skill levels have
improved tremendously over the years across the board and they are the true brand ambassadors
of this sport and the country.

Going forward into the next term for 2018, I would now like to put a lot of emphasis on providing
more platforms for training of officials, interact closely with all the manufacturers and sponsors,
address issues faced by organizers and competitors, broad base the member clubs and increase
the electoral base, create more effective and dynamic regulations, introduce new disciplines and
finally create a healthy and transparent system of governance.
As our current Council and executive body continues for one more year till 2018, I look forward to
working closely with all concerned for 2018 and do wish all of you an advance happy and
prosperous new year.
