2016 TRAINING / SEMINARS
Training of officials to keep them abreast of the latest Sporting & Technical Regulations and
trends in Motorsport is a continuing process. A Seminar for Technical Personnel was conducted in
Delhi which was a good success.
MANUFACTURERS’ INVOLVEMENT IN THE SPORT
The year 2016 saw an increase in manufacturer’s involvement in the sport from JK Tyre Industries
Ltd , MRF Limited , Mahindra, Volkswagen, Toyota, Tata, Maruti, Honda, Yamaha, TVS, Yokohama,
KTM, Hero, etc.
INDIANS IN INTERNATIONAL EVENTS
From our records, it is heartening to note that we have issued approximately 124 No Objection
Certificates (NOCs) for Indian competitors to take part in events abroad in the year 2016.
IN CLOSING
All our disciplines have flourished this year and are thankfully strongly backed by promoters. Even
Rallying that was floundering last year has made a strong come back and I think is back on track.
The Café Coffee Day Rally which ran as a round of the Asia Pacific Rally Championship, the Asian
Road Racing Championship which got us high quality 2W International Racing to the Buddh
International Circuit and the MRF International Series are some of the high quality International
events from last season. We need to continuously strive to bring more and more International
events into India, as it seems to be the easiest way to raise the bar.

On an individual level I must mention a few noteworthy performances. Gaurav Gill for winning the
Asia Pacific Rally Championship, and Shahan Ali Mohsin for becoming the first Indian to win the
Asian Karting Championship. Also it’s a moment of pride that our nominee to the Asia Pacific
Vicky Chandhok has recently been elected President of the APRC Working Group. I trust Vicky will
give the entire Region the leadership, impetus, growth and necessary change it so badly requires.
Two notes worthy initiatives that have fructified this year are the new FMSCI website which is
now getting a large and enhanced number of hits, and the Motorsport India Magazine brought
out in collaboration with EVO. I feel both these tools should be nurtured through the gestation
period and treated as investments in promotion, to draw and attract more people to our sport.
I would like to place on record my sincere thanks and appreciation to our Chairman Dr.Vijay
Mallya, Vice President Mr. K D Madan, Hony. Secretary General Rajan Syal, my fellow councilors,
Chairman of sub-committees, member clubs, sponsors, media, manufacturers, the Government of
India, the FIA and the FIM, competitors, volunteers and all the motorsport fans out there. Your
support was unprecedented and may your tribe increase.
My gratitude and appreciation for the unstinting and solid support I have always received from
the entire Secretariat. Shriakant, Naren, John, Sivaguru and our new recruit Sharon, all of you
have made my life much easier in more ways than one.
I express my heartfelt thanks to our consultants who ensure that we stay on the straight and
narrow path Ramgopal Lakshmi Ratan our advisor for company law matters, our Chartered
Accountants P.N. Balasubramanian & G Sudha, and our legal advisors S.R. Rajagopal and Anand
Sashidharan.
At the last AGM I had said that when my term ends, I hope I would have reposed your faith in me
for unanimously electing me as your President on the 22nd
of September last year. I hope and
trust I have. My decisions in the year gone by may not always have been popular, but I have
always done what I feel is best for the sport, to me that is of prime importance.
Thanks a lot for this opportunity, I learnt from it immensely and I hope I have been able to give
something back to the sport that has given me a lot. I wish the incoming Council the very best and
hope we all continue to work together, with an honest approach and firm resolve to take
motorsport forward in the year ahead. Individually and collectively this must remain our only
focus.
Early wishes for a Merry Christmas and a happy and prosperous New Year
