REGISTRATION FOR CCD BEGINS

It is time to register your children for religious education classes beginning in September. Please call Donna at 608-782-7557 and a registration form will be mailed to you. Please do this as soon as pos-sible as it helps us to prepare for the upcoming year.

If any parent would like to volunteer their Sunday mornings to teach, it would be appreciated. We had many long-time catechists retire last year and we are in need of catechists. You do not have to be a theolo-gian to teach CCD. A love for children and for the Faith is all you need to qualify!

RCIA CLASSES

RCIA classes will begin Thursday, September 23rd for those who are interested in entering into full communion with the Catholic Church, and for those who are Catholic and would like to learn more about the Faith. Classes begin at 6:00 p.m. and are held in Murphy Hall.

For more information or to register, call Donna at 608-782-7557.

Thank you.

Saint Joseph, pray for us!

Calling all Men The faithful at Saint James the Less are calling on all Catholic men and boys to gather together in prayer for the support of our family’s, our Church, our society, our health and well-being, and our support of traditional Catholic values and traditions. Every second Thursday of the month we will meet and say the Rosary. Our meeting will be on Thursday, September 9th. Rosary starts at 6:30 P.M. We will be meeting out on Lake Neshonoc “w2769 Lake Rd, West Salem 54669. Drive down the dirt road to a giant red barn like building by the lake. The said rosary can be the most powerful spir-itual weapon a man can have in his hand to combat the malevolent forces that need to be turned away. There will be time for social discussion and a call to action along with Pizza, beverages, snacks, and even a card game or two This is a great chance to get-together, get in-volved and relate to the issues at hand and do good things. Any questions please see Deacon Jason or email [email protected]

May the intercession of Saint Joseph be with all of us!

Saint Gregory the Great

Thank you for all your efforts regarding Mission Coop Sunday. We realize that much is demanded of our parishioners’ time, talent and treasure during the year. Thank you for the confidence that, by God’s grace, so much can be accomplished and more.

HELP HAITI

A powerful 7.2 magnitude earthquake struck Haiti early Saturday, August 14, and tropical Storm Grace is threatening further devastation.

Timing is critical, and your gift can help provide essential relief, likely to include clean water, sanita-tion, shelter and emergency supplies, giving immedi-ate aid to families affected.

Throughout all Masses this Sunday, August 29, we will be having a second collection in which all profits will go to aid the suffering people of Haiti.

Thank you for your continued generosity!

Page 5: Nothing that enters one from outside can defile that

The signs of Autumn are all around. For some, this is a time of the most spectacular times of the year. The temperatures are cooling. The harvest is being gathered in gardens and fields. Forests and meadows are preparing for the transformation to come. For others, this is time of forbidding. The Fall is a harbinger of the unwelcome winter standing at the threshold. My favorite month in the year is January, so I am grateful when the cold and chill breaks up the heat and humidity of July and August. Maybe that’s because God gave me too many sweat glands and a wilting intolerance for the sun. Regardless, I do enjoy the four seasons and the changes they bring.

One of the surest signs of Fall is the return of life and activity in our schools and programs. The aca-demic year is now almost in full swing. Faculty and staff have finished their in-services and prepared their spaces. Classrooms await the flurry of activity that dusts off and fires up brain cells. Muscles spring back into action in play and more complicated skills. The soul grows more deeply in communion with God, our source and destiny in life. Of course, the home is and has been a place for all this to hap-pen through the summer and beyond, but there is great joy when we can share the company of one an-other.

Our worship of God in the mystery of the Mass continues as always, but as our students return to school and CCD, we welcome them back to assist in the sacristy and at the altar. A schedule for Hand-maidens and Altar Boys has been completed. We are grateful for the children and youth who respond to the invitation and enthusiastically share their time and talent with the parish in this way. While we wel-come back all who have been trained and are experienced, there is a need for renewal after a long COVID related absence. Plus, reminders are always good.

At the same time, for parents who would like to add your child or children newly to the list of Hand-maidens and Altar Boys or boys who want to begin training with the Knights of the Altar, please contact the parish office. Training will take place as soon as we have ready volunteers.

Such service to the church is a privilege. It requires a sense of reliability and punctuality. Piety of service in the sacristy and sanctuary should be nourished by an active faith at home and out in the com-munity as well as in the church. None of us is perfect, so an habitual turning to God in His justice and for His mercy is also part of the holiness of life we seek to exemplify in roles of service. Reverence for the Eucharist and a desire to know, love and serve God is a great witness to the world, especially when it is fostered among our children and youth. Parents, family and friends, please do take time to encour-age and thank the children and youth in the parish who show maturity and commitment by serving as Handmaidens, Altar Boys and Knights of the Altar. Father Woodrow Pace

“Catholic education aims not only to communicate facts,

but also to transmit a coherent, comprehensive vision of life, in the conviction that the truths contained in that vision liberate students in the most

profound meaning of human freedom.”
