TRANSCRIPT
A full house! That describes our first
meeting of the year on September 23 at
Lawrenceville Church of God. It was
wonderful to see so many faces, many of
whom I had the pleasure of meeting for the
first time. Again, I extend a warm welcome
to our new GCMTA members. To members
new and old, I invite and encourage you to
set aside the fourth Wednesday mornings of
each month (third in November), to attend
the meetings and become an integral part of
this dynamic association of music teachers.
For a look at our calendar of events and
upcoming programs, see http://gcmta.org/
home/index/sample-page/meetings The
benefits personally and professionally are
vast, and you'll be glad you got involved!
Congratulations to Janice Vernon and Abby
Burkholder, two of our new members,
whose names were chosen in a drawing to
receive complimentary registration to the
GMTA state conference!
Join these ladies and many of your fellow
GCMTA teachers on November 5-7 at
Agnes Scott College in Decatur, Ga. to
attend the Georgia Music Teachers
Association state conference. This is a
wonderful opportunity for professional
development, as well as building
relationships with colleagues. In addition to
outstanding music performances from
students of all ages, we are in for a treat
with Conference Recitalist, Ian Hobson as
well as Pedagogy Headliner, Ingrid
Clarfield . Along with about a dozen
different presentations, our own Pam
Asberry offers an intriguing session called,
"Taking Care of the Piano Teacher", and if
you missed our September program with
Jerico Vasquez , " Creative Housekeeping
for the Studio", you have another chance to
hear it! For more information about the
conference and to register, please go to
http://georgiamta.org/conference.php
One last item of importance, if you are not
receiving regular emails from GCMTA,
PLEASE sign up for them at the bottom of this
page http://gcmta.org/home/index/ , and be sure
to watch for a confirmation email, which you
must respond to in order to complete the
process.
Now, as you open the blinds in your studio and
enjoy the vibrant October colors, allow them to
remind you of the distinct beauty of each
personality that you are blessed to teach!
Musically,
- Mary Ann McTier

October Meeting Eva Bone, Programs Chair
Teachers who want to participate in the February and March festivals
in GCMTA’s three districts should have submitted their Club Dues
form to their District Chairman already. Teachers should now be
getting their own, personal Gmail account in preparation for
registration which will begin in December and ends on the deadline
of January 9, 2016. If a District Chair contacts you to assist during the
festival, please get involved and help. Your students need to see their
teachers involved and working at their festivals! Also, if there is any
teacher who is computer savvy and willing to help prepare a district
database for uploading to the NFMC website, please contact your
district chair. Please be sure to beg, borrow, buy or steal an NFMC
Bulletin for national rules and to refer to the GCMTA Directory
pages for additional local rules.
Thank You,
Nora Martin

cians of all levels perform.
A ‘Centennial Concert’ to celebrate Atlanta Music Club’s (AMC)
efforts on behalf of quality music enrichment, education and scholar-

sic Club also presents local talent in concert. They also have begun
an initiative to gain 35 new teachers to join AMC for their Centenni-
al year called “The Next 35”. Some GCMTA teachers were honored
as a tribute to the original 35 founders: Pam Asberry, Linda Dorsey,
Robin Engleman, Ruth Mantooth and Lois Sivert. If you would like
to join also please see the website AtlantaMusicClub.org for more
details. As a member of GCMTA you have a reduced dues

students of all ages and levels, the format for this competition is an open audition. First and second place medals will be awarded

Cindy Nguyen was inadvertently left out of the listing of
Gwinnett winners last spring. She is the student of Debra
Hughes and was awarded an Honorable Mention for 12th
grade pre-college piano in last year’s GMTA Auditions. She
left for Yale on August 25 and had her last lesson the day
before! She plans to continue playing piano although will be
majoring in biology. Carnegie Hall, New York City, has just instituted a new
middle school program for singers and instrumentalists since
their High School Program was so successful. It requires a
CD audition for students to participate and involves young
musicians from all over the USA. It is called the Honor
Performance Series. Their website is
www.honorsperformance.org for any student from 6th grade
and older. This past summer, Kaylyn Manlove-Simmons (8th
grade), student of Debra Hughes, was invited to join the
chorus. It is quite an exciting
honor and very encouraging
saying that you got to
perform at Carnegie Hall!

I am selling my Yamaha P-35B keyboard. It is a full-range
keyboard with weighted keys, and includes a built-in
metronome, organ, vibraphone, strings, harpsichord, and
easy piano sounds. The keyboard itself is only a few years
old, and has had virtually no wear and tear. I was gifted with
a piano not long after I bought it, so I no longer play my
keyboard, and would love to see it go to a great home! I am
selling the keyboard, adjustable stand (On Stage Stands),
adjustable bench (On Stage Stands), and sustain pedal for
$400. Please email me at [email protected], or
