Thursday afternoon, 21 Apr
We convened around a Whiteboard to
try to integrate the spectrum of ideas about what is happening at the “Top End”, around the Focal Plane.
This my sketch of the sketch on the Whiteboard
As we summarized our session.
In attendence:

With comments, peek-ins, or weird looks from:

Matt
My apologies to anyone I left out.

To summarize:
A fiber cable assembly currently has these dimensions
And the Corrector assembly has these black boxes attached to it somewhere

Here’s our list of utilities that need to find a place on the corrector assembly…….
Fiber Cable Breakout box X 10
Vacuum distribution
Illuminator/Tracker/Focus Box
Hexapod Box
ADC Box
FiberView Camera

Best idea of the day !
All positioners have the same length Fiber lead.
It should also include the Power lead.
Many reasons why this is attractive.
(make a list)
Will work for both Front-load and Back-load options as long as
the connectors will fit through the 10 mm Focal Plane holes.

The Corrector Barrel moves relative to the Cage assembly.
Whatever utilities cross between them need flexures designed in.
A lot of stuff crosses.
List is building.

Since these will be assembled separately,
then integrated on-site, this interface is
a busy place.
This forces us to put our connectors
somewhere around here…..
..and it rules out the option of a
Cable assembly with NO connectors.

Positioner installation, Side fed, Single or cluster.
Install positioner using ample slack…… then tie the fibers down on the anchor plane
If we invoke the ‘One-length’ option we can try
distributing connectors radially (see later slide) Otherwise we will certainly
need a take-up loop in the circuit
