Apórtanse novos datos sobre a reprodución do sapoconcho mediterráneo no Baixo Miño.
New data are provided on the reproduction of the Mediterranean pond turtle in the Baixo Miño.
Nesta nota repórtase o achádego dun cadáver dun
neonato de sapoconcho mediterráneo (Mauremys leprosa)
atropelado no Baixo Miño, o que confirma a reprodución
da especie na zona.
O 12/05/2016 atopouse o cadáver dun neonato
de M.leprosa, nunha pista de terra paralela ao Miño entre
leiras cultivadas (UTM NG35), seguindo as indicacións
dun veciño da zona (FIG.1). A data na que se atopou o
neonato suxire a emerxencia tras hibernar no niño.
O sapoconcho mediterráneo e a especie con mais
citas en Galicia, a pesares de que a súa orixe sexa incerta na
meirande parte dos casos (AYRES & CORDERO, 2002).
A presenza da especie no Baixo Miño e coñecida dende
hai décadas (AYRES, 2011). E coñécese a reprodución
no tramo final do Miño, alúmenos de xeito intermitente
(AYRES & GARCÍA-RODRIGUEZ, 2006). A cita
descrita nesta nota confirma esa tendencia.

In this note, the finding of a dead hatchling of
Mediterranean pond turtle (Mauremys leprosa) in the Baixo
Miño is reported, which confirms the reproduction of the
species in the area.
On 12/05/2016 the corpse of a M.leprosa neonate
was found on a dirt track parallel to Miño river, between
cultivated lands (UTM NG35), following indications of a
neighbour from the area (FIG.1). The date the hatchling
was found suggests the emergency after hibernating in the
nest.
The Mediterranean pond turtle is the species with
more records in Galicia, although its origin is uncertain in
most cases (AYRES & CORDERO, 2001). The presence
of the species in Baixo Miño was known for decades
(AYRES, 2011). Also reproduction is known in the final
section of the Miño, at least intermittently (AYRES &
GARCÍA-FERREIRA, 2006). The finding described in
this note confirms this tendency.
