Welcome to Norton Theatre Group’s 30th Performance

Peter Pan

This is my fourth year sitting in the director’s chair, but it has been, by far, the

hardest; the void left by Kate’s passing is impossible to fill and impossible to

ignore. She died just days before we held auditions but we knew the only thing we

could do was carry on with the show - exactly what Kate would have wanted. I feel

honoured to have shared both the stage and directorial seat with Kate, and I feel

privileged to have been able to call her my friend.

She is, and will be, sorely missed.

I have been so fortunate yet again to be surrounded by a fabulously talented cast

and hugely dedicated crew whose warmth, sense of fun and hard work have

produced, what we hope will be a thoroughly enjoyable show.

This year we present to you ‘Peter Pan’ a wonderful tale of magic, jealousy, peril

and adventure, loosely based, of course, on J M Barrie’s classic story. We see

Wendy’s adventure in Neverland and witness her encounters with the many and

varied inhabitants, from pirates and mermaids to fairies and lost boys as she

travels through this new world guided by the mischievous and spirited Peter Pan.

We hope that you enjoy our show.

Kate Lovegrove Thank you for being our friend.

This year, Norton Theatre Group lost to

breast cancer one of its most prominent,

hardworking, dedicated, fun loving and

much loved members.

Kate was a friend to all who knew her, an

inspiration to all who worked with her and

the most truly wonderful, caring and kind-

hearted person you could ever wish to meet.

For over 10 years she has graced our stage

with her awesome talent and formidable

voice, been an invaluable member of the

directorial team, a backstage angel, a huge

musical influence and a much loved

backbone to the theatre company.

Even when she was ill she held her smile.

When she was sad she still had the ability to

brighten up the lives of those around her.

She made us laugh. She made us cry. She

made us bacon sandwiches and cups of tea

when we needed them most. And her hip

flask was always available for a bit of Dutch

courage.

She is sorely missed and we would like to

wish her husband Richard and her children,

Harriet and Fred, all the love in the world.

After all, that is what she gave us.

This year’s Panto, Peter Pan, will be

performed in honour of her. Like Peter

Pan, her sense of humour and love of life

will never get old.

We miss you Kate.

Kate’s first appearance in Norton Panto was in Hercules in 2007

where she played Purl alongside Knit (Dawn Kelly) and Drop

One (Milly Morris). Their rendition of ‘Three Little Girls on

Stools Are We’ was spectacular.

In 2008 Kate played a vampish Caroline, the love interest of Dick

Turpin, with the immortal lines ‘I love Dick!’.

In 2009, Kate was Buffy, the Dracula slayer in the Panto of the

same name.

Kate bought out her evil side playing The Ice Queen in 2010s Ice

Queen and the Wizard.

Kate was a swashbuckling hero in 2011, as she played Argos, one

of the Three Musketeers alongside fellow Musketeers Sarah

Bennion and James Foster in ‘Jack and the Three Musketeers’

In 2012 she played the mysterious Mrs Seagull as well being

Assistant Musical Director in Pirates of the Panto.

2013 and Kate was multi-tasking, playing both the Grand Vizier of

Pekin and Craganazer (Nephew to Abanaza The Magician)

in Aladdin.

Kate took a backstage role in 2014 due to her illness, but was still

ever present and source of inspiration

2015 saw Kate return to the stage and put on the crown to play

Prince Adam in Beauty and The Beast.

She also co-directed the show.

In 2016 she once again co-directed alongside Jo Howe, and

played the poetic and hilarious Alan O Dale alongside

Chris Taylor’s Robin Hood.

2017, she is missed, greatly.
