Hymn Notes: “All Hail the Power of Jesus’ Name! (263) This hymn is by Edward Perronet who was of Swiss Hugeunot ancestry, but born in England in 1726. He was a son of a close friend and advisor of the Wesleys and Edward himself was for many years an ardent worker for Methodism, at times suffering physical abuse for his preaching. Differ- ences arose between Perronet and the Wesleys about whether itinerant preachers should also administer the sacraments and over Perronet’s at- tacks on the Church of England which John and Charles Wesley never left. The tune, named CORONATION, is by the Massachusetts native Oliver Hol- den (1765-1844). The tune occupies a special place in the history of church music in the U.S. It is the most frequently used and most often re- printed tune to emerge in this country during the 18 th century, making it the oldest American tune in continuous use. Children ‘s worship will be talking a break for the summer. Nursery is for children
