OPENING PRAYER Sherrie Scott
Living God, long ago, faithful women proclaimed the good news of Jesus
resurrection, and the world was changed forever. Teach us to keep faith with them,
that our witness may be as bold, our love as deep, and our faith as true. Amen
PRAYER OF CONFESSION Sherrie Scott
Lord, we confess that sometimes we shy away from your love and the love of others.
You offer us your love, but through fear, guilt, anxiety, or shame, we turn away from
you. Help us, God, to receive your love.
WORDS OF ASSURANCE Carole Woolfork
Now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood
of Christ. For God is love.

WE PROCLAIM GOD’S WORD
PRAYER OF PETITION Carole Woolfork
On this day in which we honor and celebrate motherhood, we express our thanks for
our mothers. For some of us, our mothers live in our community or in our home,
caring for us and nurturing us. Others of us, our mothers live far away. For some,
our mothers have gone on to glory, but they live fresh in our memories. We give
thanks for all mothers. We are grateful for the love of our mothers. Thank you for
mothers everywhere. For mothers who are strong, grant gentleness and
understanding. For mothers who are suffering, grant grace sufficient to meet their
every need. For mothers who are struggling to make ends meet, grant your
provision. For mothers who are troubled, grant your compassion and care. We are
grateful for a mother’s example—for attitudes worth adopting, for actions worth
imitating, for lifestyles worth living, for values worth copying. We are grateful for a
mother’s prayers—for the ultimate concern for our well-being, for our names
brought in love before our Maker, for the deep yearnings of the soul on our behalf.
Grant all of us grace to pour out love on others just as our mothers did for us. Show
us how to love and to be a support to all your children. God of our mothers, fill
mothers everywhere and fill all of us with your divine spirit, love, and wisdom.
