John Holland is working in partnership with Main Roads to deliver the upgraded Tonkin Highway on NorthLink WA’s Southern Section.

After a hot, windy summer of excavation and earthworks, tremendous progress can be seen on the NorthLink WA Southern Section.

Major services have been relocated, clearing works are almost complete, noise wall installation has commenced and works to realign Collier Road are well underway.

The next couple of months will prove even more impressive as we watch the bridges at Benara Road, Morley Drive and Collier Road take shape.

We sincerely thank the community and local businesses for their cooperation and patience during these major construction works.

Construction Update

Noise wall installation along Tonkin Highway (north of Benara Road)

• Installation of bridge beams for the Benara Road Flyover and the new Tonkin Highway bridges over Morley Drive.

• Ongoing service relocation, drainage and earthworks on Collier Road.

• Works to upgrade a section of Jackson Street including widening the road, laying new asphalt and installing new drainage.

• Ongoing construction of the Collier Road bridge deck.

Important reminder: support your local businesses

The works on Collier Road, Wright Street and Jackson Street are being undertaken directly in front of businesses and include temporary changes to business access.

During this time it’s BUSINESS AS USUAL for service providers, retailers, cafes, and other businesses on these roads.

We encourage you to support them with your patronage. John Holland will ensure that access to these businesses is maintained and that disruptions are minimised as much as possible.

The $1.12b NorthLink WA initiative is jointly funded by the Australian ($894m) and Western Australian ($223m) governments.

Benara Road Flyover

Traffic on Benara Road is currently diverted on to a temporary bypass road. This ensures we can provide a safe working environment for workers while they build the flyover and the safety of drivers travelling on Benara Road. The bridge piers have been constructed for the flyover and the bridge beams will be installed in late May.

Morley Drive Interchange: Morley Drive Closure 21-24 April

On the third weekend in April, Morley Drive will be closed while bridge beams are installed on the Tonkin Highway southbound bridges over Morley Drive.

Morley Drive will be closed between Crimea Street and Beechboro Road North from 8pm Friday 21 April to 5am Monday 24 April.

Collier Road Realignment and Interchange

Works to realign Collier Road to the south have begun. In coming months, we will complete service relocations, drainage installation, excavation and earthworks, installation of traffic signal infrastructure, and construction of new road pavement. Construction of the Collier Road bridge over Tonkin Highway is progressing well.

• Piling and bridge beam installation is complete involving 314 continuous flight auger piles and 24 precast concrete bridge beams.

• Works to pour 1366 cublic metres of concrete for the bridge deck is underway. The deck is expected to be finshed in mid-June.

When the bridge deck is finished, earthworks to excavate the dirt out from underneath will begin and the bridge abutments (edges of the bridge) will be completed.
