MAGAZINE ON A DIET....

Welcome to the new guy behind the scenes at Northern Groove, Tyson “sexy mustache” Mowat. Tyson will be running around town connecting with all of the people who are part of the action in FSJ. If you’re part of an organization doing cool things, in a band, working on an interesting project, or just generally up to something fun, different, quirky, neat, or fantabulous that you think other people should know about... Tyson is the guy to talk with.

Wait? Where did the magazine go? Did we inhale 800 cases of Ultra SlimFast? Did we forget to insert the staples?

We’re here! But we’ve got big plans up our sleeves and need to take some time over the summer to properly execute ‘em. Over the past few months, you’ve probably noticed we’ve ramped up our website...and now it’s time to turn our attention to the printed page.

We’ve been wanting to take things to the next level for a while, and it’s finally time to “take the time” and make it happen. Think of it as our summer vacation. But we’ll be working, planning, tweaking, noodling and polishing.

Rest assured, all the bits that you’d normally see printed monthly will be made available on the website, including info on upcoming local events REMINDER...if you have an event, send us the deets. The world needs to know. We need to be that nudge to the world’s shoulder, saying “hey...check THIS out.”

Fort St. John & Area is a seriously cool place to live. Arts and culture is alive and well in the Peace Region, and not only that, but the uniqueness and vibrancy of the people and stories from here will hopefully really surprise you.

Even if you’ve lived here your whole life, we’re willing to bet if you look hard enough, you’ll find something so unexpected and cool (happening in our

own backyard) that you will be amazed that you didn’t know about it before. It is our mission to inform, connect, and engage the community about all of the exciting things happening in this not-so-sleepy little town and share it with all.

Northern Groove is inclusive to the entire community - meaning, it’s for everyone - regardless of any pre-conceived notions of what “art and culture” even is. We define art as whatever you’re passionate about, and we define culture as the awesome things people here are doing. That ranges from metal music, to knitting, to collecting stamps, to...well, you get the vibe. Our role (as well as all of the contributors who make this all happen) is to share the stories of the things that are happening in this community in a positive way. We believe that there are amazing opportunities here, and that if we can do a good job of sharing the things that are happening, maybe we’ll be able to help connect and spark interest in others.
