The Salaried Dental Service provides dental care in the following 5 areas:

• Urgent Care dental service

for those patients who do not have a regular general dental practitioner. It is also open to visitors to the area who

are unable to reach their own dentist.

• Special Care dental service

this is accessed by referral only and provides dental care for people who are unable to obtain dental treatment

either because of their special need or disability.

• Specialist dental services

including oral surgery, general anaesthesia and sedation as required.

• Oral Health Promotion

providing and coordinating community based oral health advice, programmes and support for patients.

• Oral screening and epidemiology

in order to ensure the right dental services are provided for the Devon area.

Normal NHS dental charges will apply for all patients unless you are exempt, (evidence of which must be

brought to your appointment).

Care is provided from 2 Dental Access Centres and 6 community hospitals and health clinics across Devon using the skills of Dentists, Dental

Urgent Care Dental Service

A weekday urgent care dental service is provided at Barnstaple Dental Access Centre and Exeter Dental

Access Centre. The service is provided for residents of Devon who do not have a regular dentist, people

on holiday in Devon and transient populations.

The service is by appointment only and is made by contact with the appropriate dental access centre.

Normal NHS charges apply. Charges are made for parking at both sites.

Outside normal working hours advice can be obtained by contacting Devon Dental.

At the weekend advice or treatment can be obtained by contacting Devon Dental.

Oral Health Promotion Oral (mouth) health is part of a person’s general health. Keeping the mouth healthy will not only mean you can eat and speak more easily, it will also have benefits for your general health.

Oral Health includes not only tooth decay and gum disease, but also deals with the effects of smoking, a healthy diet (to guard against diabetes, stroke, obesity), and cancer. Several illnesses like diabetes and heart disease are linked to the health of the mouth and what you eat has implications for your mouth as well as for the rest of the body.
